Many nearby hiking trails, bus ride to beach,

We are on 10 secluded country acres, yet close to everything - 5 min drive to downtown, 3 min.drive to amenities, All within walking distance 45 -60 min to downtown, other amenities closer, or $2 bus ride. We do not have farm animals, just. cat and therefore cannot accept helpers with pets as we would lose ours and won't take the risk.
Have one immediate dry wall prep job or drywall job (9'x9') to complete before April, if there are any takers.

    Would currently welcome either:
    a) preparing the yard and vegetable garden for summer - lots to do!
    b) if you wish to exercise your handyman skills, you should be 100% confident in doing on your own.
c ) organizing, cleaning, yard work, preparing for upcoming gardening year
    f) PLEASE let us know your do-it-yourself skills as we have lots of little jobs, depending on your skill level.
    g) We have a variety of projects from building, renos, etc etc so if anything in particular specifically interests you, please let us know otherwise, lots to do in garden and yard.

Helpers need to be independent, self-motivated helpers and ok to work on their own, looking for a quiet relaxing place to stay.

Let us know your passions/skills as your unique skills may just be a perfect fit
for a special project we have not mentioned ... as.... there are too many projects to list here.
Some tasks indoors, and some outdoors

    Please come prepared ~

    - warm clothes needed until May or mid April
    - be prepared to 'layer' till summer, then hot
    - bring slippers for indoors
    - Your own work gloves
    - A water bottle
    - Sun hat and sunscreen
    - Bug repellent for early morning and dusk.

We have been hosting travelers since 1995 ( on and off ) and are so appreciative of the many self-motivated, independent workawayers helping us. It has been a fun ride!

We have many projects on the go, so let us know your skills and we will most likely have a task for you!

Would love to have someone eager to continue organize a garage sale with us (get ready now for the spring!)

Lots of handyman projects here .... a few things to consider......

Please let us know if these tasks work for you
Are you a 'handyman' capable of independently taking on do-it-yourself projects?
Do you love to organize, clean, do household books?
Do you have gardening experience? (none to do come end of Nov till
Spring as it is usually under the snow or frozen ground)
Can you do any tiling? Can you build anything?

Handyman help: - needs to be confident doing tasks on their own.
~ repairing around home and garage
~ creative building of an additional shower (tiling or ?) to accommodate more future workawayers?

~IF you have carpentry skills and would like to use them, just ask - open for discussion based on what we have to do
and what experience you have, and if you are able to work independently.
~ contemplating creating a cabin on property using the trees on property and collection of construction materials. Neighbour is milling wood for us

    What to do around town:

There is a bus service in town, and the local bus stop is a 10 min. walk from the house. I think about $2

You can also walk to town along the backroads or take the trails through the woods all the way to town...it is about 40 minute walk - all down hill, so you might want to take a bus back up!

Closer than walking to town is a large grocery store, local pub, HOME restaurant, 24 hour gym indoor swimming pool/hot tub/steam room (exercise room included) and shooting range.

Do a couple of searches on your computer for:

Search - Shuswap Trail Alliance - as it has a website with maps of many
    surrounding trails and group activities.
Search - Shuswap Lady Striders, if you would like to hook up with other
ladies for decent hiking in the forests as well as casual
walking so not on your own.
Search - Friday a.m. newspaper as it will list all the events here and
surrounding small communities! Local news that will give you
a good sense as to all the interesting events a whole page of
    community events.

Tuesdays the movie theatres will cost you only $5- We have the Salmar Classic on Alexander St. and then the Salmar Grand with 4 movie theatres. Website includes trailers.

Thursdays ~ Jazz nights - free (by donation) amazing concerts that are every 2nd Thursday,
Karaoke here in Salmon Arm at local pub, Crown & Anchor also at:
Grindrod's Riverside Pub Thursday nights, which also has free darts and pool and is along the river.

If you have a vehicle every Saturday evening at the numerous little surrounding communities there are Coffee Houses,/ Open mic... where local and visiting musicians get up and play their stuff. Have had musicians that come through town and join in - you just sign up to get on the list when you arrive - I hear some pretty significant jam sessions are held privately after the audience leaves.

The Night Cafe ~ is a fun little bar/cafe/art studio/ food & pizza place that attracts artists and musicians. Go for coffee/drinks/meet locals or, book an painting lesson. Food offered are mini pizza's, kale Caesar salad, brisket and more plus crepes and desserts too. Art Studio is called Meikle Studio - do a search or if you want to sign up for an art lesson.

Art Gallery - first Friday of the month has an open house where they introduce the artist of the month and offer snacks and drinks, sometimes a small little sing-along happens around the grand piano afterwards.

    There are 5 pubs -
Barley Brew Pub, Crown & Anchor, Setters Pub, and Don Cherry's bar, a Legion, lots of restaurants- Mexican, Thai, East Indian, Chinese and lots more.. Canooligans, is a lively 'young-persons' pub near Canoe Beach.

Walking distance to Salmon Arm Golf Course - can walk to the restuarant/patio for food and drinks, several other nearby Golf Courses.

Movies: We have the Salmar Grand theatre with 4 different movie
offerings and Tuesday night all tickets are $5 to get in
2nd Theatre is called the Salmar Classic, so don't mix them up as they are 2 different locations. This theatre presents many international Films so you may find one in your home language. Film Festivals held 3 xs per year. Banff Film Festival (always sells out, 2 nights each night different films - quite the party) and the the regular Film Festival in February and Nov.

Live Theatre at the Shuswap Theatre - right across from the Salmar Grand theatres.

Song Sparrow Hall has GREAT band and a monthly dance party.

    other Activities:

    Gun Club
    Markets and Craft Sales
    Casino
    shopping malls
    Gyms
Indoor pool, hot tub and gym all in one very reasonable price at the SASCU recreation Centre, and yup can walk there.

Salmon Arm is within a 15 – 25 min drive to approx. 6 other small communities to explore with beaches, rivers, waterfalls, skiing and hiking trails. Pretty central here.

Close to lots of activities, on bus route, and bike available.

If you have a car then exploring is endless.

Sicamous, Grindrod, Enderby, Blind Bay, Sorrento, are all smaller towns than Salmon Arm and
    within a 15 - 30 min. drive.

If you have a vehicle, there is so much to explore in the mountains as well as surrounding small communities.
Sorrento, Blind Bay, Sicamous, Enderby, Armstrong ( 20-30 min away)
    Vernon (40 min)
Revelstoke, Kelowna, Lumby, Westbank, Chase, Kamloops, Falkland (45 min-1hour)

We are 1/2 way between Banff and Vancouver and those travelling between these two places will most likely pass through Salmon Arm.
