    Description

We are a New Zealand/Irish family with a passion for the outdoors and a desire to live as close to nature as possible. Andy is a builder and Deborah runs a stargazing tour company. In our spare time we fish, dive, surf, garden or play on the beach with our son and dog.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will have your own room with a comfortable king sized bed in our house.

Your meals are included. Usually, you will prepare your own breakfast, which may be Deb's homemade muesli and yogurt, or the kiwi favourite of weetbix, and lunch which is often home baked sourdough bread. Most nights Deb will cook everyone’s dinner, but if Deb is busy your help with dinner would be greatly appreciated. Many of these dinners will include freshly caught fish, locally sourced meat and vegetables from the garden. If you love to cook please say. The cook always enjoys a break!

There are a couple of small shops on the island (several kilometres away from the house) which can provide most of those bits and bobs that you may need. But for anything that you can't do without, we suggest you bring it with you from the mainland.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

With your time off you can visit the beautiful nearby beaches, and enjoy the many stunning hikes all over Great Barrier Island, try your hand at surfing or catch a fish or two.
We have a basic mountain bike, some boogie boards and a beginner surf board that you are welcome to use. We live only 1km from a stunning, white sand surf beach.
There is no public transportation on the island. Hitchhiking is common and safe on our friendly island. Or there is a shuttle that can be booked to help you get to/from the ferry or a hike.
