Ayesha and I were teachers but have decided to retire and make a go of developing our place in Slovenia full time.
Our ultimate aim is to create a 'No Dig' organic farm and nursery with accommodation and a small campsite in an environmentally friendly a manner as possible.
We have a one hectare site with various buildings of varying ages, a field and a small orchard. We would like to complete one phase 3 building for living accomodation and develop the other 2 buildings into apartments, a classroom and shower block. We are a long way from achieving this. We also like to grow as much of our own food as we can and this year establish some no dig growing plots.
The work we need help with can be quite physical, for example cutting down and digging out trees or just weeding, there's something for all levels of fitness, but you must be willing to get your hands dirty and be able to work on your own initiative.
In return, we can offer comfortable accommodation, good food (Ayesha is a vegetarian John is not, but vegetarian food is always available) and help with learning and practising English, (if this would be useful), for some assistance in making our dream become a reality
If you apply to stay with us you are applying to stay in our home as our guest.
We are not a business looking for workers we just want to share our time with like minded people who believe in what we are doing.
Therefore, if we are merely accommodation on a list of possibles, please do not apply, as we don't have the time to waste.
Help with Eco project
Help in the house
This is very much down to your skill set and what you are comfortable doing. There is plenty of general unskilled labour needed light and heavy.
Also help in the garden and help raising plants, if you have any particular skill in this area it would be really useful, as would any building skills and experience.
In the Summer it gets very hot so it would probably involve working in the mornings and evenings on anything energetic!
Although this is 'Workaway', we do not see ourselves as employers, we are hosts, but we do expect guests to respect the fact that the hospitality we offer has a value to the volunteer and a cost for us. Therefore, we require a fair days work in return.
Travellers will be able to improve their English and knowledge of a sustainable way of life.
You are welcome to share our home which is unfinished but comfortable with a fully functioning bathroom, kitchen and broadband internet. You can have a bed in the house or camp on the field depending on your own preference. We also have a cosy demountable which has a double bed.
