    Description

We strive to turn Gonji Village into an English indoor fruit farm and happiness destination in Korea. South Korea is great for a working holiday or gap year. Enjoy scheduled events, random events, bonus trips, great food, great people and strawberries or tomatoes indoors.

We are on the outskirts of Busan, South Korea. We spend our weekends helping and talking to visitors from all over Korea and beyond that want to share strawberries or tomatoes and their culture with you, and vice versa. You will teach them about the fruit and our farm, show them proper picking techniques, then mingle with them as they partake in our pleasant greenhouse environment, and often in the cooking classroom with food making activities. You will assist in picking fruit & gardening the plants.

We are looking for people to help at our farm through English conversations and to expose the people of Korea to the global world and culture you carry as a traveler.

-We hope you are kind, outgoing, amiable, and respectful.
-We hope you're English fluent and easy to understand.
-We hope like you can always help Saturday & Sunday.
-We hope you stay at least 1 month helping us for 24 hours in a week.

During weekdays you will work with our farmer at our indoor hydroponic fruit farm. All of our farm is inside and indoors, so the experience is quite pleasant regardless of weather or season. Weekdays our farmer cleans away spoiled fruit, trims the plants, picks fruit and packages it for customers who have reservations on the weekend. We also receive students from the region's public schools on science field trips, as well as summer camps.

Every weekend you will spend interacting and engaging with these visitors inside our farm. Families are eager to enjoy the delicious fruit, but more importantly converse with you on a personal level. For the shyer children simple conversation will satisfy their eager parents. You will also have time in the cafe to do activities with the families in a 1 on 1 environment. Opportunities like teaching children to make pizzas, family spaghetti sauces, and salsa, strawberry cakes, strawberry scones, Korean food or other farm to table recipes provide you with the chance to share conversations with them and see both children and parents come alive as they bond like family in the tranquility outside of the busy city.

Other small amounts of time would be spent assisting in cleaning of our cafe, cleaning of the common areas and your bedrooms, as well as occasionally doing structured day camp programs with local elementary students. On weekdays adorable kindergartens will look at you in wonder during the weekday mornings as they do field trips here.

    Accommodation

We have a new (2019) awesome accommodation available for you. Beds are offered inside our house dormitory. The house is located in the village 5 meters from a bus stop and 15 meters from our headquarters. At the house are 4 bedrooms, either male or female and ranging from 4 beds to 6 beds. Your living space will include mattress, bedding, pillow, air conditioning, and shelves for your personal items.

Our new headquarters is a great shared common space and source of energy in the village that has many amenities available to make you feel comfortable while contributing to the superb atmosphere and cultural experience at the farm. The shared kitchen is here. Also at the HQ is purified drinking water, WiFi, movie projector, hair dryer, bathrooms, and shower rooms. We will also provide workawayers with free shampoo, body wash, and detergent.

Available are excellent meals which will be 35% together and 65% independently. Among these available meals is a catered, seasonal, authentic, rotational, vegetarian friendly, Korean lunch. You will our HQ's shared kitchen with staple foods: bread, eggs, rice, kimchi, noodles, milk, coffee, tea, vegetables, lots of spices, as well as additional ingredients we use to cook while working at the farm. Our shared kitchen has a refrigerator, burners, ovens, waffle maker, fryer, dishes, cooking utensils, and more to allow you to easily cook, or share in our cuisine when we cook at the farm. We are a 10 minute bicycle ride from a large cooperative supermarket.

We will also provide bicycles for quick commute between our green houses, headquarters and dormitory (on same 1 km road). We also recommend using them to ride along the riverside trail (500 meters away) where there is an eco park, biking trail, and sports fields that are popular with the local community. If you wish to travel into Busan or other parts of Korea on your days off we are close to the local bus and Busan subway public transportation system, one of the best things about traveling in Korea.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We are located on the western edge of Busan, the 2nd largest city in Korea. It is home to many mountains, temples, beaches, shopping destinations, and restaurants indicative of both Korean and world cuisine. Our farm is a convenient 12 minute taxi ride from the local inter city bus station (Gimhae Passenger Terminal), which also connects to Busan’s vast subway system. From there you can quickly reach the Busan Airport in Gimhae, as well as travel into Busan, or out to other cities. This makes your off days ideal for scheduling trips to Seoul, or other parts of the country. We would be happy to share suggestions or assist in itinerary planning, or just often drive you somewhere because we feel Korea has a lot to offer a world traveler.
