Our project:
We would love to give our volunteers a meaningful, safe, educational and special experience. Our project it has been all these twelve years an important contribution to the community, we are making a big difference. We would love to continue with this important experience and we have more and more volunteer positions available every year. It means we could change the life of more people through education. About your host:
I am from Guatemala, I am hard-working. I’m running by myself a small English school and I would love some support teaching English to my students (we have regular students and students with a scholarship that I gave them, Palin is not a previleged area, for most of our students this is the only chance they have to improve their lives, most of them don’t have the chance to get superior education, they cannot afford a university, but learning English they will have more opportunities for that, working in a call center and paying their own university and bills.
About our students and the volunteer position:
The students are respectful, friendly, always eager to learn and they’re always excited about meeting new people from other countries, the students will help you with the classes and to make this experience very special. Teaching experience is not required but we will help you to be a professional here with our advice. Always remember to prepare your classes, have fun and your main objective is to change lives in a small town sharing your knowledge and your time with the students. You will have a book for each level you teach and you can prepare your class plan. Let’s make a meaningful change in this community together. Remember: repetition is the mother of knowledge and being a teacher will change your life for ever, even if it’s just for a while in this project. So are you ready for this meaningful challenge?
About our town:
Palin is a beautiful cultural and colorful indigenous town, you could relax here! Kindly note that this is not a party town, it's full of culture and indigenous tradition! You will live in the real Guatemala life here, not tourist area at all... with a beautiful town and people to practice your Spanish every day. We have other cities nearby (Antigua Guatemala for example, where you can find a party every day)
Accomodations:
You will live in a beatiful, comfortable and safe gated community in your own private bedroom at a cozy apartment, there are 2 bedrooms so you will share the apartment with another volunteer. Please wash your dishes and clean up a little bit sometimes. The apartment has all the services (hot water, wifi, laundry, kitchen,,etcetera); and there’s always food in our fridge. Special diets or meals with many ingredients it’s on you.
Important information and easy rules at home:
If you study Spanish at school or university this is a good project to improve your skills as well, or maybe you would like to be an international teacher around the world. Kindly note that we are waiting for people with good intentions and people who know the meaning of “support”; our students deserve respect as anyone else, romantic relationships are not allow between volunteers and students or volunteers and local teachers; if you are a couple you are welcome here too. We do not accept drugs (you will get a fine here if the neighbors complain with the security guardian because of any funny smell) or people with drinking or smoking issues (a hostal position is better for that, not an education position) we need to be very clear about this. Please! The world is not safe now but we provide a safe place for you and our students here! Don’t feed animals and please don’t feed the neighbors. We have a very strong reason about that. You can ask me if you have any question.
School schedules:
Every day you visit the school your host will drive you there and take you back home. The school is only 7 minutes driving from the aparment.
- Wednesday from 4:00pm to 9:00pm
- Thursday from 8:00 am to 11:00 am
- Friday from 3:00pm to 8pm
- Saturday is our most important and busiest day from 9:00 to 12:00 and 2:00 to 5:00 (30 minute-break in the morning and in the afternoon) most students with scholarship attend the school this day. There’s a 2 hours lunch. In the morning you will teach and in the afternoon some conversations one on one with students. Or viceversa.
- Sunday from 9:00 to 12:00.
IMPORTANT NOTE: We work with these schedules so people could attend our classes and they have extra time for it.
This means you have free time from Sunday noon to Wednesday 4pm. Please kindly note that Saturday is our busiest and more important day, because more students attend the school this day. Please never, never, never drink Friday night, you will need all your energy for Saturday.
Update: We need fluent communication. If you send a message please reply as soon as possible to confirm your Volunteer position with exact date... we work with annual schedule! If someone cancel, of course you could have a chance! This is a beautiful project and your visit is very important here!

My experience with Raul and his team of English teachers was amazing. I would have loved to stay for much much longer if time had allowed it.

Such a memorable experience! Palin is a small, wonderful town with a lot of culture. Our Spanish improved so much while teaching and exploring the town.
