Why volunteer with us?
Studies have shown that early intervention therapy for young children with autism is the most effective long term strategy to improve language ability, social interaction, and quality of life. Unfortunately, therapy can be very expensive in countries like Morocco and is only for one hour in a whole week. If parents don’t have the knowledge to reinforce what is learned in therapy at home, this precious time is lost. Our aim is to bridge this gap between therapists and families so that parents can have the tools to support and teach their young children with autism every day.
We are in our second year of our pilot Early Intervention Parent Training Program for parents that have a young child with autism in Larache, Morocco. Here, global health professionals provide intensive therapy for the children while training parents in early intervention methods. We hope to create an educational network wherein families of young children with autism or other developmental disabilities can learn, then in turn educate and support others. The program comes free to all qualifying families and is entirely run on donations of time and money.
