We are an organisation that runs art related events at 2 venues in a National Park in rural north-east Germany. We are known as a cutting edge performance venue and for mixing ecology with art and community.
Our first venue, where you will spend most of your time, is an artist community and workshop centre. We have many international guests that come to study and create with us. We host them, cook for and with them, run a garden with them and organize the community. Our second venue, the SeminarHaus, is a modern retreat centre in the countryside where we host a variety of groups who come and use our studios and facilities. This is a mixture of a hotel/guesthouse and a cultural place with a focus on regional development. Both venues are easy walking distance from each other in the village.

The work we do around here is varied. We are looking for volunteers to come in both a shorter and longer-term capacity. We will give preference to those who are available to come for 3 or more weeks, and we are especially looking for people who wish to come for 1-3 months.
To fill specific roles: We are looking for 4 different people to fill 4 essential roles for some of the core work to keep this place going (especially during the summer!)
1. A responsible person 21 years or older with a valid driver's licence to help with driving and shopping, coordinating with the kitchen manager to help get the necessary ingredients. This involves going into town approximately for 2 hours, 3 - 4 times a week. Aside from this you will be able to get involved with many smaller tasks around the place, but shopping will be your focus. Ideally, you are available for June, July, and August.
2. An organised person who can help get rooms ready at the guesthouse when there is a changeover. This requires some laundry and bed making work a couple of hours a week, and communicating with guests on arrival about sleeping arrangements. Aside from this you will be able to get involved with many smaller tasks around the place, and you will work alongside our house manager to have an overview of things that are happening in the house. Ideally, you are available for at least 1 month but up to 3 months between May and September.
3. A person with both an interest (and some knowledge) in gardening. We grow our own salad and tomatoes and herbs and many other things and we always need help maintaining the garden. Aside from this you will be able to get involved with many smaller tasks around the place and ideally you are available in a more long-term capacity between May and September.
4. A person who is able and willing to help with meals and clean ups at our other venue – specifically someone who enjoys the morning time, who is interested in preparing breakfasts when we host groups. This will involve about 3 hours of work a few mornings every week (the days are varied depending on events)! Aside from this you will be able to get involved with many smaller tasks around the place and ideally you are available for a minimum of 1 month.
If you would like to come in a shorter-term capacity – between 3 and 6 weeks – you will also contribute to the running of the place! You will work in the kitchen to help prepare meals and clean up, you can help out in the garden, help prepare the guesthouse in changeovers, welcome and manage guests as well as helping with running local events such as movie nights, concerts and performances. We also need help around the stage, helping performers do lights and sound and stage design. There are building projects, and opportunities to start creative ventures, joining in on some workshops when possible, and creating your own if interested. The possibilities are endless here and your input is most welcome :)
We are offering 3 month long internships where you will get an opportunity to be behind the scenes, working closely with the team helping with the running and planning of our event spaces. You will take on responsibilities of the business, sit in our team meetings, learn our processes, and help with coordination and implementation. If you are interested in doing this, contact us with some information about what you want to get out of such an experience and why you are choosing this place.
An important note: It is helpful to know that this place can sometimes have many people coming and going. Although there are opportunities to escape the atmosphere, it is important to have some tolerance with large groups of people and stressful situations. The winter months are calm.
You will be involved in a very creative lifestyle. If you are interested in culture, people and sustainable international communities you will learn a lot about each of those aspects. Participants in our program come from many different cultures. Since this place operates as an artist- community we cook, eat, work and dance together-you will have many opportunities to learn from people with different cultural backgrounds and get to know contemporary art from different nations.
You will work with our core team, 10 people who run the place with the help of volunteers. You will also be able to participate in certain workshops. There are lots of opportunities to learn, share, and create.
english, german, hebrew and spanish
When coming in the summer you must be prepared to sleep in a tent, or in an outdoor shack set up in a dorm style. If you need your own private room, this is unfortunately something we cannot offer in the summer.
Food is included, from either our cooks during peak season, or joining in on community meals.
There are bicycles for your use to visit the local lakes and swimming holes. There are beautiful walks in the woods and areas to visit close by. Our location, having been in GDR times and close to the Polish border, has very interesting buildings and history to learn about.
