  • Description

We live in the centre of Rome, just 200mt to the underground stop “Ponte Lungo” Metro line A, and near the train station "Tuscolana" and just 50mt to the bus stop "Alberone" and taxi rank, so very well connected. Our house is in a strategic position to visit the city and the Country. In our area you can find everything, shops, cinema, parks, bars restaurants gym center... The Colosseum is 6 stops by subway, only 40 minutes by walk.

We have a son, Emanuele, a boy who is almost 6 y.o. . He goes to international school, where he learns spanish, french, german and english of course. He takes english lessons at home from english teacher Ana. He is fluent in English and in Italian. He started to learn some arabic too.
I’m Lucia, the mum, i’m 39 years old and i’m a lawyer, but "i don't work now"... I'm selfless, with sense of humor and sociable.
Because Stefano (the dad) works full time from monday until sunday without a fixed timetable, even at night, we don’t have a fixed schedule each week.
Stefano is 56 y.o. and he works in a Rai television like a journalist and in radio Radiosei for S.S.Lazio, and other issues like Mediaset Italia 1 and SkyItalia. He's in many television shows and he was technical director of the Italian sports dance (FIDS). He's a fencing World Champion, and he's Technical Director of the italian fencing. He's Chief Inspector of the State Police. He teaches historical fencing and scenic fencing to actors for musicals and theatre. He's a member of the CONI as testimonials and presenter of events and award ceremonies. He's a professor at the University of Tor Vergata in Rome in the Faculty of Sports Science. For charitable purposes Stefano plays football with the Italian National Actors Association.

Emanuele wakes up at 7:00/7:30 am. He has a dinner at 6:30/7:00 pm. He goes to bed at 8:00 pm. He goes to school from Monday to Friday, the entrance is at 8:10 am, the out is at 4:00 pm. He started the primary school, grade 1.
Emanuele is lovely and very funny...:) ( even if he has his moments of "protest"!...)
He loves to build Lego and others things, like pretending to cook, reading books by Richard Scarry and Mercer Mayer, playing with PlayDoh, playing hide and seek and run... he's very playful and creative. He plays with railways and trains, cars and garage and trucks. He loves to play "to pretend", inventing stories with puppets, and play role-plays. He loves the books about weather, atmospheric phenomena, thunderstorms, storms, hailstorms, snowdrifts, hurricanes, tornadoes... he's interested in tsunami, earthquakes, volcanoes, space and solar system, moon and meteorites! Besides astronomy, geography and science, he likes numbers and maths.
He's almost SIX years old, affectionate, sociable, and you'll be his best friend ever :-) so maybe he will look for you to play with you, even if it's not your working hours... but if you want, you will be part of family!

We are a very sporty family, funny, active, and easy ( and a bit of crazy family :)). We love sports, soccer, music, dance, theatre, and the various forms of art.
Stefano and I participate in many charitable and social events ( because Stefano jobs ), we go to the cinema, to the theatre, to the stadium; we go to eat at restaurants, we go to see concerts, or we go to the park... Because we work for many hours, our days are always full and lively. We dine late, sometimes 10 p.m. and maybe just 2/3 times a week ...when we go out we usually can't bring Emanuele with us so we need that you stay with him, because at 7:30/8:00 pm he sleeps. During the week end we stay in Rome to work.

We don't smoke and we don't have any pets. We have a true italian culture and italian costume, we are welcoming, caring and positive people. I hope you will be a friend for us!

We speak very basic english (and I apologize for the grammar mistakes :-) but at home we want to speak only in english ), Emanuele is talkative and good at English.

There are many reasons why you should workaway in Rome ... one of these is that if you stay with a local host, like us, you can understand the city as we know it. Because when it comes to cities like Rome, it becomes crucial to have a local friend — to understand the city from inside out.

If you want to know the City and to get great advice about where to go and what to see in Rome, and visit the country, we are sure the right choice! We know Rome, we live in a great area, and I think the schedule is very good for you, even if it’s changeable. Italy is gorgeous to visit, and Rome is a very beautiful city... The cities of Naples and Florence are so close : just 1 hour by train ( but also Tivoli, Orvieto, Pompeii, Frascati, Castel Gandolfo, Ostia Antica, Venice, Amalfi Cost and Positano...and many other places! )

We have a true italian culture and italian costume, we are welcoming, caring and positive people. We buy good food and we can cook traditional dishes.

In your free time you will either eat with us or go out, the way it pleases you most, just giving us prior notice.
Whenever you wish to take off two or three consecutive days (to go and visit another part of Italy, for example) you should just tell us in advance.
If we go out we could decide together whether you want to come or not (my parents live in Milan for example and we go to them sometimes)

I can provide references from my past volunteers hosted. We have been host family for more than 4 years.

We would like a volunteer to IMPROVE our child’s ENGLISH whilst widening his perspective on the world. We would like a workawayer who loves to play with children and who comes here to know Emanuele. Our project is to raise a new generation of people who are multicultural, open minded and understanding.

We want a workawayer who is HONEST, INDEPENDENT, PATIENT with kids and also RESPONSIBLE and RELIABLE, and who is good at time management.

We prefer that you don’t speak italian.
We expect that you SPEAK ONLY ENGLISH, with immersion, repetition, correction, interaction.
So READ for Emanuele, love to play with him and teach new games. When you are working with Emanuele YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO OTHER ACTIVITIES. We ask you not so much to be with the child, but to ACTIVELY INTERACT WITH HIM.
    We DON’T need “just watching”.
There are not specific activities I like you to do, I want that you to find the way for your special and personal relationship with him. I would like that YOU WILL BE INVENTIVE, and it is important that you know HOW TO HAVE FUN WITH HIM. Experience one-on-one with children is requested, tutoring and teaching qualities are a plus (especially on maths, geography, astronomy, chemistry and science).

We would love for you to be our second-hand person, HELPING with whatever is needed and being a SUPPORT to our family. I want an EARLY RISER, who is fine with staying with Emanuele at night while we are working, have late dinners, etc. (because for us to go out for events is part of our job...) Because your morning schedule is from 7:00 am, we want a person TALKATIVE also in the morning.

I like to have an open relationship with the volunteers I work with, so I want a workawayer honest, with whom I can talk freely. Because direct communication is the right way to make things work ... I prefer not to deal with touchy people, rather I prefer people UNDERSTANDING, GENEROUS, UNSELFISH.

Please you consider that your "job" ( to teach, read, chat, play ) will be with an only child.

We have some more help for housework. Our housekeeper Laura one time a week takes care of cleaning, washing the bathrooms, the floors, change the beds, dusting, cleaning the kitchen ...Laura will clean also your room, like our room.
BUT during the week you should to mantein IN ORDER TOYS of our kid.
However, we EXPECT you to vacuum, wash dishes, load and unload the dishwasher, leave kitchen tidy and clean, and cooperate with us for day to day activities, as if you were at your home, possibly even better!

(Good) Food is included, but not meal's preparation. So, you'll be required to set the table while i am preparing meals (this part won't be considered in the hours of help). When i'm at home i prepare the meals for everyone, but your help will be appreciated, and it will give you the opportunity to see how Italians cook. The meals for Emanuele are provided by me always. Sometimes maybe you will have to reheat them for him. So you will not have to worry about preparing meals for us or for Emanuele ever. The same thing for groceries. You will not need to buy groceries. I will do it. Probably for lunch we will not be at home, and for dinner, if we are at home, we have a dinner at 9:00/10:00 pm. For lunch and when we are not at home you need to cook for yourself.

For his work Stefano (and me) we are often invited to parties and events. His working hours are not fixed and I often have to accompany. For this reason our weekly organization changes, so even your timetable. We ask the maximum FLEXIBILITY. We will rearrange your schedule and on the new schedule with maximum flexibility. In general we ask you to be ABLE to PROVIDE for YOURSELF, but at the same time we would like that you want to be part of our family, sharing our everyday life in an easy and funny way. Usually for the WEEKEND we stay IN ROME to WORK and probably it will be working time also for you.

An example of your duties :
    - Making breakfast (italian breakfast, so just one toast with jam) for Emanuele
    - play with him
    - Make sure he's dressed and that everything is ready for school (me, I prepare the clothes and backpack the night before)
In the afternoon you have to:
    - play with him and to read for him
    - dinnertime around 6.30pm (don’t make dinner, just help him)
    - brushing teeth/pajamas/story time (no bath time)
    Babysitting includes:
    - just making sure he goes to bed at a proper time (7:30-8:00 pm)
    - making sure that the kitchen and play-areas are tidy (when he sleeps).

Usually Stefano brings Emanuele to school by walk, and me, I pick up Emi from school; usually you manage morningtime (7:00-8:00), and I manage nighttime preparations. I bring Emanuele to judo lessons (1 or 2 times a week ) and to swimming pool by car (1 time a week).

When the schedule allows it, i will set one time a week for language practice/ reading in english, me and you.

We ask you for 25 hours a week and a very flexible schedule:

    example timetable :
    Monday and Friday days off.
Tuesday 7:00-8:00 am and 9:00-10:00 am (language practice with me) and all day free.
Wednesday 7:00-8:00 am and 4:15-6:45 pm and babysitting (8:00pm-1:00am).
Thursday 7:00-8:00 am and free until babysitting time (9:00 pm - 1:00 am)
Saturday 7:30-9:00 am and 2:00-5:30 pm and free evening.
Sunday 7:30 am - 12:30 pm and free.

    example timetable 2 :
    Thursday and Friday days off.
Monday 7:00-8:00 am and all day free.
Tuesday 7:00-8:00 am and 4:00-7:00 pm and free evening.
Wednesday 7:00-8:00 am and 4:00-8:00 pm and babysitting time (8:00 pm - 1:00 am)
Saturday 7:30-9:00 am and 2:00-5:30 pm and free evening.
Sunday 7:30 am - 12:30 pm and free.

Our home is a new apartment in a old building with a lovely courtyard. The house is about 100mq, has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, a living-room and a terrace. We have fast unlimited high-fiber and wireless connection at home and a free wi-fi connection that works in Rome and in all major italian cities, and all appliances.

We provide for you a comfortable bathroom that you share with me.
We provide for you a nice private bedroom. Please consider that in the bedroom there are some of Emanuele's toys and Emanuele's clothes in a small part of the closet. Then, maybe, sometimes I will need to come in to take or store clothes. Emanuele sleeps in his bed in OUR bedroom, most of the toys are in the living room and most of the clothes are in my bedroom.

Leonardo Da Vinci - Fiumicino Airport is very well connected by train to our house and Ciampino Airport is connected by bus.
