  • Description

    Welcome to Sean and Louisa's home. We are building a "dream retreat-farm-education-extravaganza" on 60 acres of jungle located on the beautiful Hummingbird Highway. We have completed building our geodesic dome. Tree house, hammock bridge, earth bag dome, a re-purposed shipping container-to-restaurant, along with cob oven and showers are all on the list for future projects to be carried out over the next two-three years. We have begun planting a permaculture, organic food forest , we have chickens, dogs, cats and sheep to care for, and plenty of jungle to explore in our down time, complete with our own trio of waterfalls! The land has two, year-round creeks, mature fruit trees, and is on-grid with internet and some comforts from our old life. We began our project in January 2015 and are closer to having all the basic comforts in place, although still some elements of a camping lifestyle are present. It's a magical jungle out here!

    The build phase of the project will continue until mid-end 2019;
    Full-time (25 hours per week) all meals included.
    Part-time (15 hours per week) meals not included but pooled resources make it super inexpensive!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    While visiting us guests have access to a variety of cultural exchange opportunities. Our neighbors are from Garifuna and Mayan backgrounds and the village close to us also includes spanish and menonite cultures. We support assistance at the local school, and encourage our guests to donate some time if they'd like to. At our home, we have a culture of acceptance, humor, enjoying life while you work, respect for others, respect for nature, respect and love for animals. We try and create a culture, where our guests feel at home, supported, heard, cared for, and appreciated. "You can't buy what you get when you give" is a mantra. We like to give, and it feels great when people want to do the same for you. For those interested in Natural plant healing and medicine, our neighbor is extremely knowledgable, and will teach for a fee. Please let us know if you are interested so we can facilitate discussion. He does not have a set rate, as he prefers to see what people offer, and how they value his time and wisdom, and also, he does not only help those with money, so your support of him benefits many.

  • Help

    We will need help with building, landscaping/ground maintenance, cooking/cleaning, and welcome input regarding program and site development in multiple areas. We will also be reaching out to our new community with a view to initiate community projects as we become informed and guided by our new neighbors.

    What else ...

    30 minutes from the Caribbean Sea and nestled amidst beautiful mountains, we are close to the Blue Hole National Park, Cave Tubing, Zip Lining, and fantastic hiking. We are in the early stages of planning this exciting project that will showcase varied building techniques, permaculture farming, and a living art landscape. Once we are open to the public, we hope to incorporate wellness education, opportunity for participation in community projects, various workshops, sound therapy, and an appreciation for diversity everywhere into each day.
