    Description

I have a small farm with a fantastic view of the Great Western Tiers in Tasmania, outside of fabulous funky arty town called Deloraine.

The area is rich in bushwalking tracks and waterfalls and many other things to do and see.
There are lots of fabulous local food businesses such as a winery, a fish farm, a cheese factory, truffle farms, a chocolate factory and ice creamery, a honey factory....the list is endless!

My local town hosts one of the biggest craft fairs in the southern hemisphere each November and the town is alive with a diverse Australian culture from artistic hippie to traditional rural farming families.

My little farm has a small herd of cows, one of which I'm intending to hand milk when it is old enough!, a couple of old horses and a regular funky community that comes together and shares time....so you'll be part of an extended family at times!
I'm interested in being as self-sufficient as possible and am pretty much a novice in this area in some regard.

I have hosted International travellers in my share home in Launceston and wish to do a similar thing out here on my farm.

I love hearing about other people's cultures and enjoy working with other people, and am passionate about people being all they can be.

I am clear and can see that I will accomplish so much more in partnership with somebody else than working on my own on my piece of paradise.

This is a rural regional area, that is close to a thriving little regional town called Deloraine.
My location is 15mins out of this town in the countryside.
Deloraine hosts a wonderful whole foods shop, a number of well equipped gyms, a couple of quite active and social Aussie pubs, one that brews its own beers.
There are food vendors/outlets and food vans in the town.
There is also a large shopping centre and a number of smaller retail businesses selling clothing and outdoor adventure ware.
As mentioned above it is a very artistic and creative community so you have the diversity of artistic alternative and sustainable lifestyles communities walking shoulder to shoulder with traditional farming practises and farming families.
I have a set up what is called the OMBEC which is a once monthly bacon and eggs catchup: this is located around the community once a month, where we go and share a camping night and a breakfast morning.

I host this event occasionally when we haven't been able to find someone to take over that particular month of hosting.

I also host other small catch ups with locals such as Beers at the Bitumen and also attend the local gym and interact with a number of other groups in the local community.

There is a local Theater group and a number of local martial arts practicing groups including kayaking and dragon boat groups.
It is a thriving little town full of a diverse range of hobbies and practices if you were to stay with me I could show you how to spin, i have a very curious and agile mind and enjoy the deeper side of conversation and enquiry so we will both grow!
I have a number of other hand craft interests, such as sewing and creating other items, so there's lots to share.

I'm artistic and have a bit of an engineering brain! and I like creating environments both physically and socially.
I have a very large network of friends/contacts that I will share with you during your stay.

What I hope to get from having you stay with me is the physical support and partnership, which I am very clear will have me accomplished so much more than working on my own.
I find it not so easy to motivate myself with some of the physical tasks on the farm, even though when I get going I'm quite proficient.
I also know that I will end up eating better and being more regimented and on task by having you stay with me!

  • Help

    Help

I'd like somebody who's physically fit, as I am, and who has some practical skills.

Anyone in their late 20's/30's and above is welcome! AND if you have handyperson skills and are younger than that, let me know!

We will be doing fencing, some gardening and also spending time doing hand crafts and other homesteading activities, as well as tending to my cows and horses. Fencing is a biggy at the moment. And making a gardening enclosure.

If you're fit, creative, have an enquiring mind and also hands on practical, and interested in community and socially comfortable with others then you'll fit right in here. ;)

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You'll be accommodated in a small retro caravan fitted out with toasty warm bedding and its own cooking facilities, if you need them.

The bathroom facilities will be camping style with a short drop toilet and a bucket hot water shower. OR if you are like me, a cold water bucket for that ALIVE wash!
I have also recently piped up a hot tub - old bath with a copper coil fire off-set to the side and we weekly have a soak in this legendary set up, under the milkyway....and it is awesome in the cool of a winter's night! Steam coming off it and the stars above....wow...(and I live here!)

These facilities will be improved as the year progresses. A sauna is planned.....

    Be part of this transformation!

I will make food for both of us and do intend that you actually help with this process as part of your daily work AND contribute to the pantry too. Let's plan the meals together.
If you are great at cooking that would be a huge contribution and a delight!

A lot of our meals can be cooked on my wood stove, over an open fire and on barbecue facilities and in a communal fashion with other people who may come and stay.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

As mentioned at the start of my hosting page there are so many things to do in the local area!
I will have time to take you around various places and will include you in my social outings and other group adventures.

You having your own car would be ideal and we're not that far out of town that has access to bus services to other areas of Tasmania.

As I get to know your interests, I will find and locate groups that will support you developing your skills separate to what I might be up to, if this interests you.

I travel into the local town three or four times a week and weekly into Launceston.
I go to the gym in Deloraine for the week, fortnightly, every morning, so there will be ample time to go to the local main town and opportunities to connect with people there if you do not have a car.

I expect us to have our own private time and will work at creating a structure that supports as both sharing a space together.
