We are a 501c3 nonprofit animal sanctuary. We are seeking horse care volunteers to help us care for the animals here. There is heavy lifting. Job is AM and PM with a lot of time in between for your own projects.
Types of help and learning opportunities

Helpers can learn about the care of a number of species of animals, especially those who are older. This is a skill not generally known, even amongst experienced horse owners.
Help
We are seeking committed helpers with horse care experience for a nonprofit sanctuary homing about 40 animals. We are a premier facility for taking care of older equines. There is quite a bit of heavy lifting, and the tasks involve manual labor (cleaning manure and water tanks, help with feeding, etc). We are located in a rural mountain community south of Tucson at 5200 ft elevation. The temps are about 10-15 degrees cooler than Tucson in all seasons. The help may be 2-4 hrs a day helping at feeding times, you may be asked to work independently at something, or occasionally longer projects that take all day as needed. You will have time off.
If you bring your own RV the hours are 10/wk for single and 15 hrs/wk for couple. If we provide housing, the hours are 20 hrs/wk for single and 25 hrs/wk for couple. Typically the help is a couple hours AM and PM, with a great deal of free time during the days. We greatly prefer volunteers with some horse care experience. There is no riding involved in this job. Please be willing to work hard, taking care of animals is not easy. You will need to bring your own appropriate clothing and footwear, which will be discussed prior to your arrival.Languages

Would love to learn some Spanish. I may be a lost cause :(Accommodation
Nice, private RV with two bedrooms (one has a queen bed, the other has 4 bunks), living room, kitchen, bathroom with shower. Furnished and equipped with pans, dishes, utensils, linens, etc. Happy to provide groceries for you to cook for yourself. Sometimes we'll have food too that helpers can try, we're plant-based. We are located in a rural environment, and volunteers will need to abide by guidelines regarding limited internet use, etc. We cannot have smokers, drug users or heavy alcohol users on the property due to safety concerns. It would be very hard to have small children here, there is no childcare in the community.
What else ...
We are surrounded by National Forest, hiking trails and there is a lake at the end of the road. We are a drug and tobacco free place, and prefer workers who don't overindulge in alcohol. We prefer workers who have their own cars. Please come prepared to learn and work, with adequate and appropriate clothing and footwear. We have references if you'd like to talk to others who have volunteered here prior to making your decision. We really seek folks who will follow through with their commitment.

We have both satellite internet and Starlink. Volunteers typically have access to the satellite system, but it is not unlimited, so watching movies etc would be problematic. Workawayers are welcome to engage in their own projects outside of chore time.
Space for parking camper vans
We have three RV spaces with full hookups, 30/50 amp electric, water, septic, shared internet. If you bring your own RV the volunteer time is 10 hrs/wk for single, 15 hrs/wk for couple.

Happy to discuss if you bring your own RV.
