    Description

We are Megan, John and River

We warmly welcome you to our home situated within an ecovillage on the Central Coast just 1.5hrs north of Sydney.

    Update:
We have so nearly finished our house!
I'd love someone, or 2 people, now, to help us finish a few things before we have guests arriving on 24th April!
We also have school holidays from 11th April so ideally we will find each other soon :)

Look forward to hearing from you
    Megan

    A little about us...
John (John Seed) works in the conservation of nature and founded the Rainforest Information Centre. He regularly facilitates deep ecology workshops across Australia. He has made films and recorded albums about nature and you can always encourage him to get the guitar out around the fire.

Megan, formerly working at a not for profit within the Aboriginal community in Sydney, is presently building our hemp home.
River is 11, attends a local school, loves books, hanging with his friends, soccer, music and minecraft. He loves the cultural exchange with our guests.

We have just moved into our home but there is still building work to be done!
We would like your help with building, gardening, homework, housework and cooking. From time to time John needs computer help with his admin.

We love to have volunteers with us and over the last 6 months have hosted people from all over the world. We collaborate with our friend and neighbour Benjamin who is also doing a natural build. You can look up his workaway site and see it is favourited over 250 times with more than 20 five star ratings, so you will find other travellers here for sure.

We share the cooking responsibilities like a family would, each taking turns to cook dinner, we love learning new recipes from you :). A typical evening involves sharing stories over dinner, going to a village event together, or playing board games around the table. Of course you may wish to enjoy your own company and that's welcome to.

The ecovillage is an intentional community of about 150 people. There are often 4 or 5 volunteers staying here and they share a kitchen/dining/hangout space. There are frequently lots of interesting community activities going on such as; crafting, group meditation and yoga, dancing in the dark, pot luck dinners. Sometimes we have organised events like gigs, fundraisers, quiz night's.

Terrigal beach is a great nearby haven with a plethora of shops, cafe's and eateries. We are lucky to live in the heart of Strickland State Forrest. Beautiful bushwalks are right at your doorstep. A calm and serene dam is located just behind your accommodation for swimming, meditating and relaxing.

  • Help

    Help

We have just built and moved into our new hemp home at the eco village and from time to time need help with remaining building projects, gardening, homework, housework, cooking and computer help.

Up to date as of 20 March 2025:
We have so nearly finished our house!

I just need the following tasks done. It might be 2 different people for 2 weeks or someone might come for 2 weeks and stay longer - lets see :)

    1) some domestic contributions - mainly cooking the family meal and hanging/folding the washing. - This will allow me time to do paperwork to get the house signed off (yay) and sort boxes - both jobs that only I can do
    2) rub back all my antique brass door knobs to bring back the shine - nice easy indoor work that you can do amongst other things - but needs elbow grease and a desire to bring the beauty back :)
    3) some weeding around our paths and lovely vege patch
    4) some easy work washing down the outdoor mudbricks and sealing them - it needs dry weather to do it.

and for someone interested in woodwork:
    5) sanding back our wooden outdoor setting and varnishing it.
    6) resanding and varnishing the wooden 'servery' at the kitchen window
    7) creating some shelves for the bathrooms and pantry - sanding and varnishing. We have a handyman who could put them in if needed.

Work hours per day will not exceed 5 hours unless you wish to work extra hours for more full days off which we can accommodate.

You will be well rewarded with a lovely place to stay and wonderful connections with other travellers and villagers.

We look forward to hearing from you. Please mention something from our profile to let us know you have read it. thanks
