    Description

We run a free vocational training program for pregnant and young single mothers. The young women, along with their dependent children live at our facility in Nakuru for one year while learning tailoring and the business skills needed to open their own small business upon graduation. Our teenage mothers come from very poor rural areas where most girls do not have the opportunity to be educated beyond primary school. We are a small project funded entirely by donations. We are looking for volunteers to help teach English as a 2nd language, bookkeeping and small business management to our young mothers. We also need help with our web page and short promotional Youtube production for fundraising presentations. We are currently in need of volunteers with grant writing and QuickBooks experience. We also need volunteers to help keep the preschool children occupied in the morning while their mothers are attending tailoring class. Our home is large enough to accommodate up to 4 volunteers. You will join the ladies and staff for Kenyan meals, which are predominantly vegetarian.
If you want to experience the awe-inspiring scenery of East Africa, see safari animals up close in the wild and make a real difference to a local community, volunteering in Kenya could be perfect for you! Working in Kenya is a real chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of modern life and try something completely different. Its stunning landscapes and natural beauty are known around the world, with truly amazing sights such as the Great Rift Valley. Safari is one of the things Kenya is most famous for and rightly so – elephants, giraffes, buffalo, leopards, zebras and many more animals can be regularly seen in the wild. Kenya is also home to fascinating and often ancient traditions from the melting pot of so many tribal cultures.
With extensive recent droughts in the area, diversifying the economy of the local area is important and one method of doing so is through learning English to help with a trade. English can open up many new opportunities for these women.
Volunteering in Kenya would be best suited to someone happy to escape the hustle and bustle of the contemporary life. However, we are located just a couple of kilometers from downtown Nakuru, where you can actually get a good cappuccino and a good, western style meal. If you want a chance to experience the real unspoiled Africa, this is the opportunity of a lifetime!
You will join the ladies and staff for Kenyan meals, which are predominantly vegetarian.

We may also request your help in our office with computer/web skills, fundraising or writing grant proposals.
We have a professional sewing teacher who conducts class between 9 and 3 daily. However, if you have sewing skills that would be very helpful to assist the ladies with their practice sessions.
