    Description

    Hello Workawayers 🙂
We are searching for open-minded and passionate people to help run fundraising events and projects for our local development foundation. Nestled just outside the busy surf town of Weligama on the southern coast of Sri Lanka, this is a peaceful guest house within nature. The guesthouse is created to help the Foundation.

    OUR MISSION:
Raising money for our development foundation.

We would love to accept caring volunteers, who have a passion for:
    - Fundraising
    - Creating classes (whatever interests you, from DIY to ecstatic dance or Yoga, feel free!)
or whatever tickles your beautiful brain!

    Current situation:
We had our big event of the year on December 27 where the money raised by the foundation was used to provide school supplies to 100+ local kids. Our next big event is in the middle of April, where we will invite some local kids and their families to enjoy a day of playing and, if we have enough money, we will also provide school supplies to the kids on this day. Until then, the focus is to organize events such as cooking classes or Yoga. The money raised from these events will go to the foundation. Therefore, Workawayers need to be ready to promote these events and be innovative to come up with new events that can help gain revenue for. Besides this, you can connect with the local neighborhood with advice from Janaka, the owner of the place, and get help from your fellow workawayers to create your fundraising campaign.
There is not a specific schedule planned out for each day, so you must be independent and figure out in which way you’ll be able to help out in the best way.
    ______________________________________________________

Regarding our local development foundation - We want help to make Weligama people 'to stand up and stand tall'. We’re aiming to do this as far as we can and in the best way possible without getting into any cultural problems.

If we during the time that you’re here do not have enough income to arrange events, it would be a great gesture if you’re willing to help share covering some of the costs.

We offer an authentic cultural exchange, a rare privilege for many travellers in Sri Lanka. You will be spending lots of time with the family of the place (a perfect opportunity to learn and practice your Sinhala, and to master Sri Lankan cooking!). Due to the nature of our work, we ideally prefer long-term volunteers. Having said that, we can absolutely accommodate shorter stays as well.

You’ll most likely be staying in the dorm room, where we have 6 double beds with mosquito nets. If there are no guests in one of the private rooms, you can stay there until the next guest arrives. We have a huge garden and a nice terrace, where you can watch monkeys, peacocks and big lizards.
We have space for up to 3-4 volunteers, couples are welcome. There are also 4 dogs on the premises. Whenever the mosques call out their prayers, the dogs like to sing along.

If you feel like this sounds good for you, then come and be a part of something really special. You will experience community life where people share and learn from each other.

Dinner is included on the days when cooking classes are arranged. On other days, the volunteers might buy groceries together. Breakfast and lunch are not included.
