    Description

This is a brand new hostel in the stunning Valle Onsernone in the Swiss-Italian Alps near Locarno. It was previously used only for school groups and now it's restyled as a backpackers' haven. The valley is one of Switzerland's most stunning and rustic, and will soon become part of Switzerland's 2nd National Park.

I'm looking for volunteers starting for at least 1 full month at a time. German or Italian fluency is preferred. Check out the online documentary called "Überleben ohne Massentourismus - Tessins wildestes Tal". It's in German but you'll see fantastic scenery of the area in the first few minutes.

Volunteers will receive free lodging in exchange for simply keeping the place lively, especially in the evenings, and taking care of some very simple tasks like watering house plants and putting away dishes. Strong IT skills are a big bonus since we need to strongly boost the valley's online presence, which is almost non-existent.

Transport to the wonderful city of Locarno is easy and takes from 20-60 minutes depending on the departure point.

Time off allows for hiking, swimming, gardening, camping, mushroom hunting... basically anything nature related.

This is one of Switzerland's poorest and yet most interesting regions. Italian is spoken here as we are just on the border with Italy. The valley is inhabited year-round by around 800 people, with lots of vacationers coming in the summer to their second homes.

It's very easy to meet locals and explore the entire place on foot. The rivers are absolutely stunning. Volunteers will be integrated into the local community and taught about fascinating local life by the hostel operator. There is a museum about the region close to the hostel. There are also opportunities to learn Italian.
