Have you got a passion for working with children, and love the idea of making a difference and have at least 6 weeks to volunteer? We are looking for dedicated, enthusiastic, passionate people to volunteer in our children's home in Tapachula, Mexico.
We consider a volunteer to be a ‘friend with authority’ here. The children need love and fun but also guidance and discipline.
Every volunteer has some talent that they can share. You don’t need to be an engineer or a certified child psychologist. A genuine love for children and an enthusiasm to work is a basic requirement.
Volunteering here is not a holiday but a busy work time; however it is incredibly rewarding and you will walk away from the place with the satisfaction that you have made a difference in the lives of the children.
SURFERS: Looking for keen, enthusiastic surfers who would be willing to work 2-1 with our young up and coming surfers. We need to reignite our children and teenager's passion for the ocean and get them back on their boards! Spanish speakers preferred but not essential.

GARNERS/LANDSCAPERS: Experienced, creative gardeners needed to help designed and plant a garden.
YOGA TEACHERS / SURFERS / SKATERS
We're looking for a yoga teacher to host classes for our children and young people, promoting a positive relationship with your body and mind. One week or longer. Spanish preferred but not essential.
We are also looking for surfers and skaters to run a few days surf camp for our kids on their summer holidays! This will include water safety lessons and other water based activities! Spanish preferred but not essential.
WHO WE ARE.
We are a not for profit hotel, surf school and education complex.
We work to spread the message of our children's refuge Misión Mexico, the message of love, life and hope.
We opened our doors in 2017, with the goal of creating employment, education and empowerment opportunities for the impoverished community of Puerto Madero; a safe place for women and children to learn, a place to be empowered, a place to forget your impoverished surroundings and be encouraged to grow. Puerto Madero has limited cultural and community facilities, and therefore the aim of our outreach is to create a safe community space where women, children and youth can come together and develop new skills and share a sense of community identity.
And now, one year on, we are opening our doors to the general public as not-for-profit hotel, inviting you to come and stay with us, surf with us and help us on our mission to change the lives of not only our refuge children, but the lives of the Puerto Madero community.
We are currently running free English classes, swimming classes and surf lessons to the children of Puerto Madero.
We are still in the very early stages of our journey and need your help to make us into the valuable resource we know we can be. We are looking for hard-working, dedicated people who share our common goal of helping improve the lives of an impoverished community.
We need English teachers, swimmers, surfers, carpenters, artists, gardeners, yoga instructors, independent thinkers and passionate people with big dreams. Any skills you have that you think could help us, please get in touch and we can work something out together!
We are located in a very untouristic part of Mexico. While our tranquil, uncrowded setting has it's benefits, if you are looking for a highly social, party place, this is not it. Ideal for couples/travellers looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of tourist life.

This is the perfect place to improve your Spanish and fully immerse yourself in Mexican culture.
You'll have lots of free time to learn to surf, improve your Spanish, or just relax and unwind in our tranquil location.
Whether you're teaching, surfing, gardening or helping with the tech stuff, your stay here will directly help make a difference to the lives of this impoverished community.
UPDATE: We are looking for English teachers to teach children and teenagers. A basic level of Spanish is required. Teaching experience is preferred but not necessary.
The type of work you'll be doing is really dependent on your skill sets and interests. A few examples of what you could be doing are as follows;
- Teaching English, surfing, swimming or dance to the children of Puerto Madero. (No experience needed, just passion and a basic level of Spanish)
- Helping with creating an online profile for the not-for-profit hotel, in order to attract customers. This could be managing our social media accounts or researching places to advertise our services.
- Helping maintain the grounds and gardens. Planting new plants, and general upkeep of existing plants.
- Help create a sustainable vegetable garden and fruit orchard.
- Help organise and manage beach clean ups and other eco projects
- Running art programs with the kids, encouraging creativity and free thinking!
Whether you're a surfer, a swimmer, an English teacher, a gardener, a social media guru, or just someone with a lot of ideas and enthusiasm, we want to hear from you!
As a charity we rely on our donations and sponsorship and we ask for a small donation of $5USD a night to cover the cost of the meals during your stay.

In developing countries (Where most hosts are involved in charity work or community development) some of our hosts may ask for a small donation to help the host family or charity (often less then 5 dollars per day) Workaway will allow this listing when the donation goes directly to the family or charity and is just to cover the cost of the volunteer‘s stay. (This will be clearly marked on the host listing).
We will strictly not allow listings posted by agents, “middle men” or projects who we feel are looking to profit from a volunteers stay.
