We are a family of 4 (plus our female au pair) living in northern Germany between Kiel and Lübeck. We have 2 little boys (3.5 and 1.5) and moved into a new home in Plön recently. As we don't have time to travel that much ourselves anymore, we love to welcome people from all over the world who'd like to explore northern Germany (train station is located a short walk from our home) and in exchange help out with our kids, garden and possibly some household chores such as vacuuming or doing the dishes.
Plön is a small city or town and I could try to write lots of things about lakes and culture here but I think Google knows better than me.
You'll have your own room and we provide meals together with our family - or whoever is at home for meals.
If you have any questions, just let us know.
We'd like our guests to stay with us for at least 2 weeks.
Babysitting / child care
Help in the house
We used to travel a lot and host exchange students from different countries and therefore love to share experience and culture from all points of view. You can take part in every day life, but I have to admit that we are quite busy sometimes, you will get to know and practise our language (if you are interested - I used to work as a language teacher for immigrants), you'll of course have your own room, we are located between 2 of the main cities (Kiel - known for sailing events & Lubeck - known for Marzipan and historic neighborhoods) in northern Germany (train station within walking distance) and our town is a very popular place for summer travels. Hamburg is not far from Plön either and there are affordable ways you can get around and spend time visiting different places all over Schleswig Holstein.
We'd ask you to help out 12 - max 20 hours a week. We are a bit flexible, something between 2 and 5 hours a day and 3 - 5 days a week would be wonderful. It depends on your travel plans, too.
Right now we'd need someone experienced with little children because we are looking for a person who can take care of our 1.5 year old boy for 3.5-4 hours on Mondays and Wednesdays while mom is at work and we are still fighting to get a daycare place for him.
You should definitely enjoy being with little children. It woupd be great if you could also soend some time with our 3 year old playing outside for example. Your tasks migtht also include - apart from keeping the kids entertained - vacuuming and / or wiping floors, cleaning windows, carrying stuff from one room to another...
And if English or Swedish is your native language, we would love and ask you to speak your language with the kids. And I'd like to practice English or learn some Swedish as well. I've been so fascinated with the Swedish language but never got to practise it after a language course at university :(
We don't need gardening or childcare experts, just some common sense and an open mind :)
German, Englisch, some French
You will have you own small room in our family home. It is furnished with all you need but not much more I have to admit - bed, desk, chair and some room for your clothes. No need to worry about basic toiletries, towels or sheets, we'll provide all those. You will share a bathroom or rather 2 bathrooms with us, the showers only used by guests and our au pair.
We have several English books at home and provide maps and information about the area in German and English.
We'll ask you to read and accept our "household handbook" which includes some general information as well as rules about childcare and household.
Very important rules would be that
- we don't accept smokers at our home, there's absolutely no smoking allowed in or around our home and family
- same with alcohol, drinking and any other drugs
- we ask you to clean up after yourself
- never abuse children in any way and never shake a child (could lead to death!!!)
- no streaming or downloading music, videos or anything else that is illegal concerning computers, internet etc.
- be honest! If you break something, no big deal but we need to know to be able to fix or replace things
- we want to know who is inside our house and home in general so please inform us if you plan on having guests
- be kind, enjoy your stay
- we will ask you to see your passport or some sort of ID because we want to know who is staying with our family
- no food or drinks outside kitchen & dining room
Limited internet access
We have pets

Maximum 20 hrs a week in total: max 5 hours a day, maximum 5 days a week
