WE ARE LOOKING FOR A KIND, INDEPENDENT PERSON TO COME IN AUGUST, TO HOUSE-SIT AND DOG-SIT FOR US FOR A MINIMUM OF 2 WKS. WE ARE AWAY FOR 2 WEEKS MID-AUGUST,BUT WE ARE HAPPY FOR YOU TO WELCOME YOU A WEEK OR MORE BEFORE THAT AND TO STAY ON AS NEEDED. PLEASE READ OUR PROFILE AND GET IN TOUCH IF YOU ARE INTERESTED 😊
We are a family of 4 living near Clonakilty in the south west of Ireland. We have had many people from countries all over the world staying with us...we love to travel but now with young kids and work life, it's harder to see as much of the world! Workaway is such a great site and we have had some fantastic travellers stay with us!!Our kids are 15 and 16 years old and both in secondary school. We are looking for a happy, independent, flexible person to come and stay with us. We are laying out our garden at present so lots of odd projects in this area and any experience here would be appreciated! We usually plant vegetables in the springtime and need help then with care and watering! Sometimes there is painting and upkeep to fences around the garden also. We have a relatively big lawn also that needs to be cut every week in summer.
Generally our needs are very varied and flexible and range from general help around the home, some cooking, dog-walking or helping in the garden if you're interested! The kids enjoy learning about cultures from all over the world and are happy with help with their homework at times. They have grown up with people from all over the world staying with us and are very accepting of everyone.
We love trying new foods and if you like to cook you are welcome to experiment in our kitchen! Perhaps twice a week I would ask for help in preparing or cooking our evening meal, usually the days I am working. We eat a varied diet, have a love of fresh fish from our coasts, we try to eat good quality meat and free range chickens and some vegetarian as I'm an 'ex-vegetarian' and love wholesome food:}The area is beautiful and there's plenty of cultural things to do in Clonakilty, a town with great Irish music, a wonderful community spirit and a place you'll row to love!Types of help and learning opportunities

You will experience our wonderful Irish culture through different music/events and places of interest nearby. Clonakilty is approx 1 hour from county Kerry, one of Ireland's most visited tourist regions. There are many outdoor pursuits in this region. This little niche in west Cork attracts many people from all over the world, so although you're in Ireland, expect to meet many other nationalities who have made Clonakilty their home!
In our home, we will treat you as one of the family, and help you achieve whatever you came to Ireland for😊Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
We have three dogs, Charlie and Cookie who are Jack Russell's, and Molly who a Golden Retriever! They love their walks every day. You definitely need to love dogs as we are all dog lovers in our home😁 Miya has a dwarf rabbit also who lives in our sunroom! So any help here is very welcome!
I used to work 2 mornings a week as a nurse in a busy GP practice near our home. We all help out with housework, but it's hard to keep on top of it all sometimes. I have various old injuries from a road traffic accident 20 years ago (I was a pedestrian hit by a motorbike). I attend physiotherapy/massage every month. In order to pace myself and keep my pain at a manageable level, I find I can't manage to do everything around the house that I could before my accident. An extra pair of hands for a few hours a week is so helpful, keeps stress away and we enjoy showing you around in return when we have time. My husband does a lot of machinery projects and works as a contractor for local farmers ..Springtime and September /October are busy months for him. As he has to work long hours during this time, I admit I really enjoy having the company of a workawayer around:)Languages

I love an opportunity to practice some French, I take some grinds with a student here sometimes . I have a little Spanish and German also. The kids are studying French and might ask for some help with homework sometimes!!Accommodation
Your own bedroom is very comfortable. You have your own bathroom with shower downstairs also, within the main dwelling house. The house was renovated and is done up in traditional irish farm house style. We have an open fire, stunning views from our patio looking across the hills to the Kerry mountains and good internet connection. In summer 2020 we got our windows replaced so the house is warmer and cosier now!!
What else ...
There is endless possibilities for sightseeing, hiking, surfing (local surf school in Inchydoney) , listening to great irish music, exploring our irish history, horse riding, beautiful beaches 15 minutes drive away, Cork city 45 minutes away, and an hour away is County Kerry where more fantastic scenery and activities await you...mountainclimbing, biking, culture etc. Not forgetting also that west cork is a food lovers paradise!! We have some great farmers markets and super restaurants/cafes in the locality. As a word of warning...many people come to visit Clonakilty and never leave....😉😉
