    Description

My partner Nadège and I are running a four bedroom B&B in a very nice art nouveau villa in Lower Normandie (Calvados) with seaview. We live in a cute little village in the Caen/Ouistreham area with our three children, Mahé who is 15 our little princess Rose (eight years) and the last little guy Orphee ( four years).
The beach and countryside are beautiful. Local shops are nearby and nice walks or bicycle rides are available within the villa's perimeter. You can reach "Omaha beach" Bayeux, Arromanche, Caen, Cabourg, Le Pays d'Auge, Dauville, Honfleur… within one hour or less by car. The Mont St Michel, Le Havre or Etretat are reachable within two to three hours drive too.

I speak an intermediate English (with a romantic French accent) and Nadège is fluent in English and intermediate in Spanish.

Spending some time with our guests who come from different countries is a great experience. We have breakfast altogether and we also share the kitchen with guests who wish to cook at home.
Helping at home and spending time in the area can be an good way to live as a local. We would be happy to take you to our local markets to buy cream and eggs, compare our cakes receipes etc…
If you wish improve your French (or learn from scratch), Nadège and I are French natives and happy to help. Nearly half of our guests are French speakers too.
Of course I would also be glad to share my knowledge and tips about the area with workawayers as I do with my guests. Our area offers a lot of historical places to visit from the medieval period (William the Conqueror's castle and abbeys of Caen, Bayeux's tapestry) to the D-Day beaches, cemeteries and museums.
Our house is also part of a very nice second empire's architecture seafront and the whole region is famous for its gastronomy (cheeses, cider, Calvados, seafood…)

( Update winter 2025 ! : looking for workawayers with sewing skills. Before our spring opening we have some curtains and cushions project. We have the machine the fabrics and are looking for the man/girl now !

I have been running the house for few seasons with the help of Nadège, workawayers and friends. The biggest work at home is to ensure that we keep the house clean (i.e. vacuming, ironing, cleaning the bathrooms and toilets, daily use of washing machine and dryer). It also means that the guests' bedrooms will have to be prepared on time, the breakfast ready each morning, and that our guests remain happy of their stay with us.
July and August remain the busiest months with our guests. Spring and autumn however are calmer, which allows us to do more gardening or maintenance work in the house.
As we have three kids, maybe some babysitters skills could be useful too :)

Ps : All year long I like to cook for guests, family and workawayers but it is also wonderful to welcome workawayers enjoying cooking or with professional skills in food to discover to exchange and learn about different or foreign « cuisine »

We have two individual bedrooms at home for workawayers. The wifi is available for everyone. The bathroom is shared. As we cook for the family and often for our friends, workawayers will be welcome to share our meals too. We are not vegan but we tend to cook a lot of vegetables and dairy products which directly come from our local producer and farm (cheese, cream, butter, cider…). We also have a fishing port not far from the house where we buy some fish and seafood.
The coast is a touristic area where a lot of outdoor sports are available (sailing, kite surfing, horse riding, tennis, bike polo…) Two spas are at a very close distance from the house. Workawayers can also use our bicycles, beach chairs, etc…

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We are an artist family fond of antics and flea markets, so the place could look a bit eccentric:)
We would also be happy to learn from workawayers and to share best practice. Don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. In terms of skills and competences required for this job, we would like to find people who would enjoy to man a house effectively as well as taking good care of our guests.
