    Description

Do you want to live in our small paradise first row ocean view farm with exotic fruit trees, gardens & animals and help us with gardening, maintenance work & building infrastrucutres? Ideally you have knowledge and experience in one or more of the above skills. We prefer couples with a green thumb & workmanship skills. We'd love to offer you a stay in a tiny house for a minimum stay of 2 months.

We are a german couple, Christina & Karsten, living on our organic farm on El Hierro, Canary Islands. We have subtropical fruit trees of all kinds and some animals (dog, cats, rabbits, chicken, ducks and bees). Karsten is a Freediving Instructor, Christina a Coach, journalist and eco farmer. The finca is isolated in wild nature 200m above sea-level, close to the seaside and cliffs. The next beaches (Charco Manso, Tamaduste) are in 45 minutes walking distance (some minutes by car). We live off grid with 100% solar power and reuse our water, trying to live as sustainable as possible and implement permaculture principles. We offer a stay in a tiny house without electricity, but there is a common barbecue-chillout-kitchen zone where you can recharge your devices. You have your own outdoor bathroom with warm water.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

You can learn about organic farming, ecological lifestyle, get a lot of inspiration of how to life a simple and joyful life close to nature. We both work a lot in personal development and are also happy to give some impulses. Between April and October, our place is a paradise for ornithologists. The close by lava caves are home and breeding place for "pardelas" (petrels). You have a 200 degrees seaview, with sunset and sundown, an incredible clear sky with stars.

  • Help

    Help

We need help on our farm, mainly to build wooden & stone structures (compost toilet, storage space, etc), do water installations (ponds, maintenance and optimization of irrigation system for trees) and take care of land & plants (grafting trees, doing compost, planting, sowing, etc.). There is a lot of tasks to do, step by step. If you are able to build stonewalls with natural lava stones or if you have excellent carpenter skills we would be extremely delighted. Also, if you have experience in growing vegetables, we are happy.

Our animals need animal loving hands. Chicken, ducks, cats, rabbits, dog, bee hives.

Also, help in the house is welcome.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

The birdsong of pardelas (petrels) is fascinating and funny at the same time. Their nesting season is between April and October. Listening their "concert" is happening specially in dark of the night . The next village with public transportation is about 1,5 kilometers away. The next beaches where you can swim (Charco Manso / Tamaduste) are in 45 minutes reach. Its a beautiful scenic walk. Of course it is just some minutes by car. El Hierro´s peace and tranquility attracts nature lovers. There is no elaborate touristic infrastructure and no nightlife as you would expect it in other places on the Canaries. Still there are plenty of street festivals and parties. Especially in summer. Karsten offers freediving courses - if you are interested in prices & courses search for "Freediving El Hierro". There are special offers for our workawayers. Other outdoor activities can be walking, hiking, paragliding, swimming, scuba-diving, snorkeling, mountain biking and many more.
