    Description

We are a family of six people - two adults and four kids born between 2017 and 2023, two cats and several chickens.

If anyone is interested in helping us out in every day life with regard to taking care of the kids and the household, feel free to contact us. Generally, I think about two hours of work per day would be fair in exchange for bed and food - that is 14 hours per full week that you are here and flexible whether you want to do more hours one day and fewer or none the next. That said, we are also happy for you to feed yourself in exchange for fewer hours. Plus - the best workaway experiences in the past have been those where neither party counted hours but the workawayer was simply part of the family and helped by engaging with the kids and doing regular things like help set and clear the table, empty the dishwasher, etc.

Generally one can say that we do not have that much to do here. Occasionally you could be looking after the kids so that we adults can have some date time (we absolutely love hiking and having complaining kids with us just takes the fun out of it), you are always welcome to clean around the house because I never get on top of things, and generally just spend time with us.

Our reason for offering workaway is a) to enjoy occasional frequent dates and b) to take some of the boredom out of everyday life by engaging with people from other cultures/backgrounds and c) to have it a bit cleaner here.

Other than having a place to sleep you a) could become a part of our family for the time that you're here and b) practise your English and/or German skills and c) relax in a beautiful part of Germany (as long as children's noise does not stop you from relaxing).

We speak English with the kids by the way, so they grow up bilingual. Travellers with a kid 5 years and older are also welcome - especially our 5 and 7 year old daughter and 8 year old son enjoy the chance to play with other kids (so it would be great if your kid spoke English or German).

We live in Sudheim, a village near Northeim, which is close to Göttingen in lower Saxony, Germany. You can get here by train and bus (buses run hourly until 7 or 8 pm) and we have a beautiful countryside for walking/hiking. If you come by car, it is not far to the Harz mountains and the Solling.

If you decide to send us a message, please make sure that it is obvious that you have read this text. A generic message is fine, but please add a sentence or two that shows you're aware of what would be awaiting you here.

We also have two cats (very young ones, so they are quite cheeky) and seven chickens.

Another word on food: I am a vegetarian but the rest of the family are meat-eaters. However, we still don't eat a lot of meat. Also, we adults regularly fast whole days. The kids still eat and we also prepare food for them, but they are not gourmets... ;-) So on those days you would be welcome to eat kid food or cook/prepare food for yourself.

    Non-smokers only, please!

You can get here by bus which runs hourly. However, buses stop running between 7 and 8 pm, so a bit tricky if you're planning on spending your nights partying. We're rather the early to bed, early to rise types...

Single parents with one kid also welcome (just not enough room for more guests).
