Help out with and stay in our home... your own en-suite bedroom.

I'm looking for someone to mainly help take care of my pets while I run around juggling college and two jobs! As I am out working a lot, I am really looking for someone who is comfortable spending time on their own, or a couple who can entertain each other. When I am there, we can cook together and chat together..

Hello there! My name is Myrthe, and I am a student of Psychotherapy and a holistic massage therapist. I live in a small apartment in the countryside with my mother, who has her own separate apartment in the same building. My mother travels occasionally, so she may not always be around. My sister lives nearby, and we are a small, friendly family who welcome people of all genders, sexualities, and ethnicities. My family and I have been hosting volunteers since I was a little girl. We are big fans of good food and cozy dinners with great conversation. Everyone shares in the cooking, and we enjoy a mixture of vegetarian meals with the occasional meat dish.

    Who We Are Looking For:
We are looking for someone to give us a hand with gardening, cleaning, cooking, maintenance, dog walking, cat cuddling, and DIY projects. We happily accept couples! We have a double bed, so it's not suitable for two people who are not close. Your accommodation is a bedroom with your own bathroom. We have WiFi, but phone reception is generally not great. We are about 14 km from the main town, so we are quite rural. If you come with your own transport, that's great, but I’m in and out of town regularly and can give you a lift.

I have also been a volunteer and have done exchanges with hosts in Spain and France myself. I live in West Cork next door to my mother. I work part-time from home doing marketing, general business management, and online virtual support for yoga teachers and others in similar industries. When I’m not doing that, I work as a massage therapist in the local town of Bantry (3-4 days a week). I also go to college a few evenings a week, so I’m quite busy.

My family has been hosting volunteers for over 30 years. You can expect fun conversations but also space to do your own thing. I live in the countryside with great walks right at my doorstep. There are many attractions in West Cork, and it really is a stunning place to live if you can adapt to the ever-changing weather!

We have a large library of holistic health books that you are free to read. We also have books in Dutch.

    Help

need help with getting the garden under control - everything is growing and going wild! You need to be okay with dogs. I have a beautiful rescue dog, but he can be a bit nervous around new or unsure people. If you are nervous around dogs, this might not be the best match.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We are located in the Mealagh Valley, 14 km from the nearest town, Bantry, in West Cork, Ireland. It's a rural area, but I travel to Bantry a few times a week and can give you a lift if you want to explore. Hiring a car is recommended for more extensive exploration, or you can rent bikes from the local town

This is a great place for those who love the outdoors, nature, and walking. We are on the famous 'Sheepshead Way' and 'St Finbarr Pilgrims Path' walkways. In our local town, there are great pubs and places to eat, as well as Bantry House and Gardens, and a cinema. You can take a trip to Whiddy Island or the renowned Garnish Islands in Glengarriff. Glengarriff is a nature reserve with beautiful native woodlands.

The Wild Atlantic Way is beautiful and rugged, and the views of the bay on a clear day are breathtaking.

If you need a suburban life, close to shops and other conveniences, this might not be the place for you. We are enveloped in nature in wild West Cork.

    What to Bring
Please bring work clothes, including shoes/boots that can get dirty and clothes suitable for painting and other messy tasks. We provide work gloves.

    Weather
Irish weather can be unpredictable, so bring clothing for all conditions, including layers for warmth, rain, and cold.
