Most recently my experience is in teaching English as a Foreign Language to large classes of high school students in Vietnam, but, through substitute-teaching and private tutoring, I've worked with virtually all ages from first-grade to university level. So if you're looking for tips/tricks or just trying to improve your English (or your kid's English, for that matter), I can help!

Growing up outside of town with a relatively large yard/garden area has left me no stranger to the endless chores that spring up all over the place. The two houses I grew up in up also both had wood-burning fireplaces, so splitting/stacking/storing firewood is easy and familiar.

I've also had a variety of summer and part-time jobs throughout university and for one year after, most notably in the restaurant industry, where I have about a combined 3 years experience as a dishwasher/line cook/kitchen supervisor by the end. The main takeaway from this is that I'm a pretty decent cook, so I'd be happy to help on that front. I've also had summer jobs in mosquito control (all larvae control with a bio-organic pesticide harmless to plant/marine life, no spraying of dangerous chemicals) landscaping, (specifically, installing artificial turf for private residents), and one summer in a tire/oil change shop. However, please don't read that last and think I can help fix your car ;). I can do oil changes and change a spare tire like the average joe, but my mechanical expertise is still next-to-nothing, sorry :/

The summer installing artificial turf also required the occasional building of wooden frames to attach the "grass" to, and throughout this job I also helped my boss with a few odd jobs renovating his new house - most notably installing flooring. Because of this I'm competent with a small number of basic power tools like drills, handsaws, etc. I'm comfortable learning the use of more power tools and helping on any building projects you may have, although my help will come as a relatively unskilled, (but enthusiastic!) volunteer.

I'd also be happy to help with the editing/creation of any promotional materials you might have as a small business. For the last two years of University I was in the History program's student-society, and have experience planning, promoting, and hosting large events, as well as creating promotional material for these events. If that is relevant in any way I'd be happy to put it to use.

I am also an aspiring writer, planning to return to Canada in the fall to take some courses in creative writing and screenwriting. But in the meantime, I'd be happy to help create, brainstorm, or edit any written content you may have as a small business, or just in general.

  • What else ...

If you want to get a sense of me and my sense of humour - check out my blog at thebookofdaveblog.wordpress.com. It's just a personal/travel blog that I've used semi-regularly to update friends and family on what I've been up to in Vietnam and after. It's a work in progress but if it helps you get a sense of what I'm like then I'm happy to share:)
