I stayed with Rodney for 2 weeks, mainly cleaning and doing some garden work. Both Rodney and his housemate were wonderful people and made me feel so welcome from the moment I arrived, they both have become friends. I would highly recommend staying with them for anyone wanting to visit Gold Coast!

ITALIANO La nostra esperienza con Jennifer è stata purtroppo molto negativa. Siamo rimasti 6 giorni a casa sua e abbiamo lavorato tutti i giorni senza ricevere nemmeno un giorno libero. La comunicazione è sempre stata molto carente: non per una questione di lingua, dato che capiamo molto bene l’italiano, ma perché non spiegava mai chiaramente i compiti e spesso ci trovavamo a dover indovinare cosa fare. La mattina non era presente, non salutava, non chiedeva se avessimo bisogno di qualcosa e non lasciava quasi nessuna indicazione. Fin dal primo giorno abbiamo avuto la sensazione di non essere benvenuti. Sebbene inizialmente ci avesse inviato una lista di attività da svolgere all’interno della casa, in seguito ci ha chiesto di fare buche all’esterno con temperature vicine a 1 grado, cosa che comunque abbiamo fatto perché comprendiamo che possa far parte dello scambio. Tuttavia, non abbiamo mai ricevuto una guida adeguata né un minimo di accompagnamento. Il trattamento è peggiorato il sabato, quando è arrivata urlando e con modi molto scortesi per informarci all’improvviso che dovevamo andarcene entro mezzogiorno, senza averlo comunicato per tempo. Questo è stato molto stressante, perché abbiamo dovuto cercare urgentemente un alloggio e senza pranzare, con temperature vicine allo zero. Più tardi è tornata accusandoci, di nuovo urlando, di aver toccato delle programmazioni della casa, cosa che non abbiamo mai fatto. Abbiamo cercato di spiegare con calma, ma non c’era spazio per il dialogo perché continuava a gridare e insultare. Situazioni simili si sono ripetute durante la settimana: quando il soffiatore di foglie si è spento le abbiamo detto che poteva essere la batteria, ma il giorno dopo è tornata accusandoci di averlo rotto. Inoltre, quando la cucina è rimasta senza gas, l’abbiamo avvisata con un messaggio e comunque ci ha rimproverato di “toccare le cose della casa”, anche se stavamo semplicemente informando ciò che avevamo visto. La convivenza è stata molto fredda. Parlava pochissimo durante i pasti e la maggior parte delle sere non era presente. Nico ha cenato con lei e i suoi figli solo una volta; le altre sere non c’era. In generale abbiamo percepito poca chiarezza, reazioni sproporzionate e una persona molto stressata. La cosa più difficile è stata il trattamento: abbiamo sentito che non c’erano rispetto, pazienza né volontà di comunicare. L’uscita improvvisa, senza alcun preavviso, è stata particolarmente dolorosa e poco umana. Questa è stata la nostra peggiore esperienza con Workaway e ci ha lasciato molto tristi. Speriamo che in futuro possa migliorare il modo di relazionarsi e comunicare con i volontari. Da parte nostra, continuiamo il nostro cammino con più apprendimento e con il desiderio di trovare anfitrioni con uno scambio rispettoso e chiaro. INGLES Our experience with Jennifer was unfortunately very negative. We stayed at her place for 6 days and worked every single day without receiving even one day off. Communication was always very poor—not because of language issues, as we understand Italian very well, but because she never clearly explained the tasks, and we often found ourselves having to guess what to do. In the mornings she was not present, she didn’t greet us, didn’t ask if we needed anything, and left almost no instructions. From the very first day, we felt we were not welcome. Although she initially sent us a list of tasks to be done inside the house, she later asked us to dig holes outside in temperatures close to 1°C, which we still did because we understand it can be part of the exchange. However, we never received proper guidance or even minimal support. The situation worsened on Saturday, when she arrived shouting and speaking very rudely to suddenly inform us that we had to leave by noon, without giving any notice. This was extremely stressful, as we had to urgently find a place to stay and without having lunch, in temperatures close to freezing. Later she returned, again shouting, accusing us of having changed some of the house’s settings—something we never did. We tried to explain calmly, but there was no room for dialogue because she kept yelling and insulting us. Similar situations happened throughout the week: when the leaf blower stopped working, we told her it might be the battery, but the next day she returned accusing us of having broken it. Also, when the kitchen ran out of gas, we informed her by message, and she still reproached us for “touching things in the house,” even though we were simply reporting what we saw. Living together was very cold. She spoke very little during meals and was absent most evenings. Nico had dinner with her and her children only once; on all other evenings she wasn’t there. Overall, we felt a lack of clarity, disproportionate reactions, and a very stressed person. The hardest part was her attitude: we felt there was no respect, no patience, and no willingness to communicate. The sudden decision to make us leave, without any notice, was especially hurtful and very inhumane. This was our worst Workaway experience, and it left us very sad. We hope she can improve the way she relates to and communicates with volunteers in the future. For our part, we continue our journey with more experience and the hope of finding hosts who offer a respectful and clear exchange.

Ankes Land ist wunderschön und es war eine große Freude, ihr eine Woche etwas unter die Arme greifen zu dürfen! Die Arbeit war in der verabredeten Arbeitszeit sehr gut zu schaffen, die Unterkunft ist toll und wir haben uns gleich wie zu Hause gefühlt. Wir hatten ein kleines Häuschen für uns, super gemütliches Bett, tolles Bad und gut ausgestattete Küchenzeile. Wir haben uns super gut mit Anke verstanden, sie macht es einem sehr leicht <3 Die Hunde sind super freundlich und es gibt sogar einen Brotbriefkasten, wo man täglich ein frisches Baquette bekommen kann :) Alles in allem einfach eine sehr unkomplizierte und bereichernde Angelegenheit, 100%ig zu empfehlen.

Elena and her family were great Workawayers and also one of our first families – so they set standards that will be difficult to surpass 😊. They lived in their caravan and usually took turns helping out in the olive grove. They were extremely committed and hard-working, and always in a good mood – even during the "night shift" 😉. Attila, Elena's husband, always had excellent ideas that went far beyond the work itself and contributed to solving many problems. Both of them were very interested in everything to do with our olive grove and the production of high-quality organic oil – simply fantastic! We also tried to show them as much as possible of the beautiful area around Kalamata and provide them with advice. . Elena and her family, along with another Workaway family, have grown very dear to our hearts and we enjoyed our time together immensely and miss spending time with them. We would like to say "efcharisto poli" to them once again and would be delighted to welcome them back to our home.

We were overjoyed to have Melvin stay with us, he was an all round helper with jobs like gardening and cleaning the kitchen. He was very relaxed and fun for the boys to be around we loved him playing the guitar and his relaxed way of fitting into the family. His work was of such a high standard even when the work was physically demanding. He is welcome back any day, the boys miss him already. We loved our time with Melvin, The clarke family

We spent 10 days with Avi, Margaret, and Svejk, their sweet little dog, and it was a really lovely experience. We honestly recommend staying with them. We learned a lot about composting, which was something we were very interested in. Every morning we shared breakfast with Avi while he explained the tasks for the day, and in the evenings we ended the day with a delicious, healthy dinner and great conversations. The view over the bay is beautiful, and there are parks nearby where you can go for walks on your free days and enjoy the area. Thank you so much, Avi and Margaret, for everything!

I am very grateful for this opportunity to stay with Morgan with his family and friends. It was my first workaway experience and I couldn’t have chosen better. This one week was full of cultural exchange, I really enjoyed talking to everybody, especially the grandma with youth spirit and artistic soul or Morgan and Georgia who care about their community and people with love and understanding, with their little son Dylan who taught me that we can play even without knowing our languages, with Gaetano who made my stay cheerfull and with Rosario, Alessandro, Veronika with whom I could talk about everything, with Malika who showed me a natural way of living with all the gifts that nature can offers. I had experienced a true sicilian countryside with beautiful nature, fruit trees and breathtaking views where Morgan’s sister lives and ofc the big allways hungry cat Pepo, it was funny even to look at him. But what I really loved about my 1 week stay is that they treated me like a family member and not like a stranger, I really enjoyed everyday’s home cooked meals where we sat and ate together as a family. I miss already every member of a family. So if you want to experience a true cultural exchange, nature, music, food and great family atmosphere this is the right place to stay. The work is not hard, we discussed with Morgan everyday what is on plan and he let me a lot of free time to explore Sicily. I wish I could have stayed longer.

Doris et Helge sont très sympathiques, sérieux, disponibles, ponctuels, travailleurs, efficaces, et toujours de bonne humeur. C'était un plaisir de les recevoir chez nous. Nous les accueillerons avec plaisir une prochaine fois !

Wow! What a lovely and special place. The Sanctuary is a few minutes by walk away from the house - when you arrive you will see all of the animals. They have soooo much space and Annie takes so much care of them that they have the best home there. We had a good time there and our task was to build a chicken coop for a safe place in the night. We took some old parts from the farm and could finish the work - it was a good feeling to "design" and build it on our own. The dogs there go for a walk every day and we could join it - the place around the farm is stunning. We had a really nice conversation with Annie - she makes a lot of interesting things. Unfortunately we had not so much contact to Annie - we can understand this because of all of the work there and around the farm, but this one important part for volonteering for us. There is only vegan food and we cook by ourself - perfect👌 The House for the Volonteers is very big and the rooms are really nice. We can really recommend this place. Thank you Annie for the great time at your farm and House and also for the great work for the animals. We have a big respect!

I had a wonderful time with Sophie, learned so much, meditated, enjoyed the beautiful nature and went for walks with the cutest dogs every day. Sophie's property is incredibly beautiful and the surrounding area is perfect for hiking, going to the beach or just relaxing. Sophie communicates very fairly and openly. I would have loved to stay longer to help out on the property and continue enjoying the hospitality, nice conversations and wonderful nature. Thank you for everything, Sophie!

Where to begin... I spent five weeks with this unique family and from the very first day I was never bored. Living in their home was a real pleasure and doing chores around the house and garden, which anyone with a little goodwill can do, in such a peaceful environment reconnects you with nature and your thoughts. The house's location in the middle of the woods may seem remote, but we often went into town during the week, allowing me take buses and trains to explore the wonderful villages and beaches of western Liguria. Together with Cristina, we solved many small problems that, looking back, were fun; we ended up at the mechanic's, stuffed mountains of groceries into the Panda, and organized parties and events at the last minute. So you can understand that if nothing happens, it's almost suspicious, but don't worry, you're in good hands because Cristina can handle and solve even 100 problems at a time . The most important thing is how Cristina makes you feel truly at home, understood and listened in times of need. I felt that I could count on her because she is a true friend with a big heart, i will never thank her enough for what she taught me through her stories and for passionately sharing with me the world of essential oils. At first glance, Seba may seem a guy with a hard shell, but underneath he is a sensitive person who is always ready to help everyone and make you laugh with his jokes. You can always count on him. Dear Giada and Ocean, two children with strong characters, but also with a great talent for expressing their love for family and friends with kindness. They are also mature in their respect for nature and in putting themselves out there in various areas without fear. Of course, I won't deny that they can be impatient at times, but in the end, they will always make you smile (and get what they want, haha). Last but not least, the adorable animals, Zuma, Savannah and Simba, beautiful and very well-behaved, will always keep you company with their sweetness. The accommodation is like a hotel, with a room that has been carefully designed with warm colors, where I slept very well, and a big bathroom that was at my disposal—it's was dream! So basically everything is perfect, you just need to pack your bags and set off on an unforgettable experience!

I learnt so much from these wise and strong slow travelers and am inspired to go traveling again! Helene and Johnny were great worker, highly respectful of our family's space and time, and offered fantastic hard work at our home. They did the more difficult gardening (like making a garden passageway accessible after it had been grown over), and also the regular gardening and weeding that was needed. They cleaned our balconies better than I would have done it myself, and assisted a neighbour with gardening work that required climbing. Fantastic service all round, and left the accommodation perfectly ready for the next people. So grateful for their help. My only regret is that I would have liked the time to be longer! More conversations, and of course, more of their great service.

Staying with Kaushila & Deepak was so much more than anything I could've expected. It was my first Workaway experience and I truly felt like it was a home away from home. Kaushila & Deepak were incredibly generous and so fun! They shared so much knowledge about Nepali culture, food, card games, and tea (ofc). Accommodations were cozy and clean and Kaushila made the best dal bhat I had during my stay in Nepal. The working was very manageable, we worked a few hours a day, five days per week. This gave the Workawayers lots of time to explore the area which had a cute town where you could buy fresh fruit and and most things you would need or gifts for home. They charged a $7 fee per day for food (as noted in the description) and I really think that it was worth it. First off, as I said before, Kaushilas dal bhat (and johl!!) was the best I had in Nepal. We also ate fresh fruits from the farm and had all the tea we could ask for. Second, admittedly, I don't think that our working contribution was enough to offset the costs of hosting workawayers. Picking tea (and picking it fast!) is not easy! it takes a few weeks to get the hang of it. Plus, we had a lot of downtime to relax, read, go for a walk, whatever, which I preferred to working all day. I really cannot thank Kaushila and Deepak enough for being such great hosts and making my first Workaway an unforgettable experience. And especially for helping me coordinate my trek! I hope to go back to the farm next time I'm in Nepal :)

We were glad Fanny joined our harvest and she certainly left a strong impression. She is well-travelled so she bonded quickly with everyone and hit the ground fast, also thanks to her past olive picking experience. We also pruned some trees and she made her mark there, too. Thanks for the delicious Ratatouille and your light-hearted presence.

I stayed with Elisabetta & Francesco for over three weeks and had an amazing time. The moment I arrived I loved the land they live, the view from the room, the big gardens & buildings that are there. They make sure to make you feel at home, curious to get to know you & ready to share all their knowledge and experience. It didnt take long for me to feel part of the family. They are very flexible about when you work, they invited me to join whatever they were doing and you are free to join or to do your thing. I loved the work, the things I learned about gardening and all the beautiful vegetables. We made pasta, visited friends, markets and we had a lot of fun together. They work very hard on beautiful big& small projects that are always there and it was an honour to be part of it and help out where I could. Another place that feels like home & another family in my heart. Lots of love & alla prossima!

Nous avons beaucoup apprécié la bienveillance de Luc et Geneviève, leur accueil chaleureux et leur générosité. On s'est vite senti à l'aise et bienvenus. Ils ont fait de leur mieux pour nous inclure dans des activités sociales et ils ont été très tolérants avec nos tendances atypiques. Nous avons aussi apprécié la communication qui était claire, directe et bienveillante. Nous avions beaucoup de points en commun et nous nous sommes bien reconnu en eux.

I had the absolute pleasure of hosting Christina and Marcel, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. From the moment they arrived, they brought kindness, positivity, and a wonderful energy into my home. They worked incredibly hard—always doing more than I asked for—and carried out every task with care, skill, and initiative. They were tidy, respectful, fun, and genuinely cool people to be around. They were also absolutely wonderful with my dogs. The dogs adored them. I wish you all the very best for the future, and I’m sure our paths will cross again someday. Thank you for everything

Hi everyone! We recently completed our first Workaway trip together. Visiting Daniela and the rest of the team was a wonderful experience! We met so many wonderful and kind people here. We were very warmly welcomed; everyone was kind and friendly, always there to help. The work itself was very enjoyable and easy. Our only task was to prepare meals once a day and then clean up after them (just like at home). The whole thing took a maximum of three hours! As for the schedule, we were able to easily negotiate and agree on what suited everyone best. We have very fond memories of the trip and the people, and we plan to return in the future! If you're planning a trip with friends, visiting here is the perfect choice!

I had a wonderful experience with Viryam, Rama, and their wonderful children in their homeland. A magical place full of activities to do, accompanied by good company, delicious food, and a delightful place to sleep. If you want to experience nature, eat what the garden produces, and find peace in a beautiful green valley, this is the place for you! ☀️🌈
