At the beginning, I was a little nervous about flying to the US on my own and staying with a host family for two months. But from the very first moment, Stacy & David made me feel safe, comfortable, and at home. Their children are incredibly loving, and I immediately grew very attached to them. I felt truly welcome from the start. My main responsibilities included cooking, spending time with the children, and helping with small household tasks. Since Stacy teaches from home, I had the opportunity to see how homeschooling works. As I am studying to become a teacher, this was especially interesting for me. I was also allowed to take on small tasks, such as correcting the girls’ math assignments. In addition, Stacy and David always included me in their activities. We went to museums together, attended their nature class, and even joined a town hall meeting. I also really enjoyed going to the library with Stacy and the children. The selection of books was huge, and it was amazing that all books could be borrowed for free. At the same time, I always had the freedom to take time for myself and do things on my own, which I really appreciated. Stacy provided a list of different activities and overall things to do in their hometown. She also helped me with getting the tickets and planning my trips. I really appreciated that, because traveling to a different city—let alone a different country—can be quite tricky sometimes. I can highly recommend staying with Stacy & David, as I had the chance to try new things and grow personally during my time with them. They are incredibly open-minded people. Before coming to Texas, I was a bit worried because I am Muslim and feared that I might have difficulties being accepted. Looking back, this fear was completely unnecessary. Stacy and David, as well as their friends and community, were very tolerant and genuinely interested in my religion and culture. We had many open and respectful conversations about my way of life, how I practice my religion, and even my political views. I never once felt judged or unwelcome—quite the opposite. They were always supportive, curious, and understanding, which made me feel truly accepted and at home. In fact, I felt so comfortable with them that I am now a little homesick after returning to Germany. 🙃

Sheta is an excellent guest, always willing to help with everything. She especially bonded with my 9-year-old daughter, teaching her English while my daughter taught her Spanish 🙂 She also cooked delicious Chinese food for us. She is a very kind and pleasant person, and for us it was very interesting and enriching to share her culture. We hope to see you again soon, Sheta!

Wow, what an amazing time with Vicky and her sister!! They were so helpful, funny, and caring, and I loved chatting together and sharing our cultures! The work was engaging as well, to help build a website and profiles for the new tourism business. The apartment is in a good area with lots to do nearby! They are wonderful hosts and I feel like I made new friends and sisters for life! Asante sana, staying here has been my favorite experience in Kenya and I will always be thankful for the memories!!

Wojtek and Ania stayed with us for two weeks, and in a very short time they didn’t just integrate smoothly, they became part of the place and of our daily life. They are both incredibly available, kind, and easygoing people: always present when something needed to be done, never heavy, always bringing the right energy. They have a very practical kind of creativity: ideas that don’t stay abstract but turn into real, useful things. This showed clearly in the games they built, in the interactive map they created to help guests find the lodge more easily, and in many small improvements that came naturally along the way. When it was time to get their hands dirty, they were always in. One great example: starting from some driftwood we collected together on the beach, they built a simple wardrobe and a frame for a glass panel. Thoughtful solutions, well executed, with care and common sense. Beyond the work, there was much more. In just two weeks, they became friends: shared pizzas and Mexican soups, interesting conversations, card games and great surf sessions. Having Wojtek and Ania here was genuinely easy and enjoyable. We would recommend them without hesitation to any host looking for reliable, creative people who are also just great to have around :) hope to see you guys soon!

I spent an amazing two weeks here in October learning about the olive harvest, from tree to oil. Four other WorkAwayers and I were in the hills every weekday morning harvesting olives accompanied by a few other local people. At the end of the each day it was possible to accompany Vin to the local factory to see the oil making process. It all happens in one day! Such a cool thing to see. And if we chose, after the harvest we would head down to the sea for a swim, always returning home after to a wonderful Sicilian dinner. Vin is a great cook, and also really cares about showing you around his home. We did some adventures into town and over to Palermo, where he had histories to share with us and some unforgettable Sicilian meals organized. If it is the height of the harvest you will likely be sharing a room with another WorkAwayer. Bring work clothes and get excited to share this communal lifestyle with Vin, his cute pets, and your new friends from around the world!! Thank you for everything, I look forward to returning :)

Thank you so much, Memo, the team, and the wonderful students. I truly appreciate your kind words. It was a real pleasure supporting the academy and helping with speaking practice. The students’ motivation and positive energy made the experience genuinely rewarding, and I’m very grateful for the warm welcome and trust from everyone. The staff are absolute heroes — they go above and beyond to raise standards and help their students bridge the gap to perfection! I hope to join you again and continue contributing to the inspiring learning environment you’ve created :)

Hello Franzi and Leo, It was a real pleasure hosting you both. You were always open to learning, picked up the farm work very quickly, and were happy to help with any task. You did a great job helping with laying and setting up irrigation pipes, which was a big help for the farm. You’re such a calm and easygoing couple, very respectful of the space and the people around you. We loved seeing you relax in the hammock, read, and enjoy the rhythm of farm life. You also blended in well with the daily routine and the volunteer community. Thank you for your positive attitude and good energy. We were very happy to host you, and you’re always welcome to come back in the future. Wishing you a wonderful journey ahead in India and beyond!

I spent two months with Marije and her family, including the fantastic dogs and chickens :). They lead busy lives and are incredibly wonderful people who are understanding and honest. I was alone and had the opportunity to work a lot with my hands, making repairs or improvements. Their independence and hands-on mentality are greatly appreciated. I had a wonderful time in a beautiful place with fantastic animals around me, and I miss the dogs terribly! Every morning, eight dogs at the camper door... I wouldn't want to wake up like that now :] Lots of love and success in the coming years, and thank you for the time together!

English version: I spent two weeks at Edith's farm in mid-December and thoroughly enjoyed my stay there. Everything was as described and therefore met my expectations. The house is cosily furnished and the wood-burning stove provides homely warmth throughout. I felt very comfortable with Edith and came to appreciate her as a good conversation partner on a wide range of topics. Our conversations, which often lasted for hours, definitely enriched me. In addition, there was delicious and often very local food. My tasks included felling a tree and transporting it to the barn, which was great fun with the snowmobile. I also carried out minor maintenance and optimisation work, because on a farm there is always something to do to keep everything running or to prepare for the coming season. The workshop is very well equipped, so that, provided you have the appropriate skills, you can always find materials and tools to repair or build anything. This is not a farm holiday, so you should be able and willing to contribute in a profitable way. Manual skills and a hands-on approach are required, which can sometimes be physically demanding. But in return, you have the opportunity to enjoy your time in beautiful, remote nature when the work is done. A sauna by the lake makes for a pleasant end to the day. You can also walk for hours through the forest without encountering a single soul. In winter, you can see some reindeer and sometimes even moose here.

Hannah came and stayed and then came back again and again and again. She is just a wonderful person: kind, funny, reliable, incredibly helpful, loving, patient, always willing to muck in, dependable, competent, totally trustworthy and able to cope with everything from chaos to the endless confusion over the laundry and the lifts. She did so much to help with our busy lives without us even asking and she became one of the family. We love her and we miss her so much. We would have her back in a heartbeat. We cannot recommend her highly enough. She's one of the very best. She will always be welcome here to stay whenever she wants.

Dear Nolwenn Thank you so much for your kind words. We are so happy that you enjoyed your experience here so much and that you felt at home right away. It was a real pleasure to share the daily routine with the animals, our meals, and trips out with you. Your enthusiasm and love for the animals made everything even more special. Your words fill us with joy and motivate us to keep going. We truly hope to see you again soon—you will always be welcome! Warmest wishes, Chiara and Vincenzo

I had a great time in Koszalin with Violetta. This is a unique place for me, which gave me many wonderful moments. I think it is like a "large living room" of Violetta, where everyone is welcome, can exchange ideas, try things out and there is plenty of room for inspiration and creativity. In other words, a place where many beautiful moments are created and every day is different. Violetta is a great host due to her interest in people, her open-minded and supportive nature. And thus also gives every guest in here a feeling of being welcome and so you feel very quickly "at home" as a guest. I had a lot of fun at work and great evenings. Thanks to Violetta and her great team!

I stayed at the shelter for 1 month during November&December and truly wished I could have stayed for longer, it was such an amazing stay for my first Workaway! I came here to get experience for furthering my career working with dogs and I can definitely say that it’s helped me tremendously. The shelter is a place filled with love and care, with Thomas and Diamanto working so incredibly hard every day, I felt blessed being able to help them and share a tiny bit of the load. The work isn’t too hard, it takes around 2-3 days to understand everything but both are so helpful and understanding even when you mess up. It takes around 2 hours to feed, fill buckets, cuddle the dogs and clean in your area. Afterwards you take some of the dogs for walks, which was so nice as you really could connect with them. After that you take out the garbage and for lunch indulge in one of Diamantos amazing meals she has cooked! There is also a really nice cafe truck 5 minutes up the road which does great coffees and cakes that I recommend if you want a little treat after work. Then you can rest and during the late afternoon take the goats out for around 2 hours, which is amazing for watching the sunset. I shared my time with two other volunteers which I felt so lucky for as it was so fun being able to spend time with them alongside the lovely dogs and cats. If anyone is worried about coming here and meeting all the dogs, don’t be as they are the sweetest, most cuddliest dogs I’ve ever met in my life. I’ll always remember my time at the shelter, the area is also gorgeous with the view of the mountains and being in such a remote area was unique for me but I loved the atmosphere of it. Thomas and Diamanto treated me with such kindness even when some situations got difficult and stressful, I’m very grateful for everything I’ve learnt from them. Everyone will stay in my heart always. Would love to return one day:)

My experience in Attaouia was really kind..the school was a small school with a very hostable secretary, Asmae and also the italian teacher, Fatima, was very friendly with me. I did lessons in the afternoon, just 3 hours per day with children and adults who were very happy to learn italian. The life in Attaouia was quite and I had a lot of free time to travel around. The house were I lived was confortable and the experience of the weekly market was amazing. I met a guy who works in Italy and he brought me to know the villages around Attaouia and the relaxing hammam. Fatima and the students of the italian class prepared also a tipical dinner for me, couscous and tajine. We had time to to meet the owner of the school, Abdel, his family and the other voloonteers, with whom we had a special lunch, prepared by Abdel's family.

Hello everyone! We spent two very nice weeks with Anastasia and Max. The place is an old hotel so there are plenty of rooms where you can stay comfortable. About Food, it was nice, Anastasia cooked often for us and we shared the meals all together around of the fire place. The work was straightforward, we helped them with everything to turn the old hotel to a new hostel. We are very grateful with them and we wish them the best with their project! Best regards,, Iris and Alan!

It was such a pleasure having Eva stay with us for a couple of weeks and help out on our tiny farm. She’s polite, smart, and really funny, always motivated and happy to learn by doing. Working together was great fun, and she jumped into everything with a positive attitude. We’ll definitely miss the cozy evenings with board games and music just as much as the laughs we had during the workdays. Eva quickly felt like part of our farmlife, and we’d love to have her back for a visit next summer. Big recommendation to other hosts!
