Are you looking for an opportunity to live with a family and work on an Organic Tea farm during your stay in Nepal? Consider spending time with us at our Tea Garden.
Location: Our organic tea farm is located halfway between the terai plains and Ilam Bazaar. It is around 600km far from the capital city of Nepal.
Ilam’s rolling hills are lush green with tea gardens. Thick white fogs alternatively descend to veil the gardens and then suddenly vanish.

Ilam is also the most famous District of Nepal for the production of tea and well-known for its special brand: Ilam Tea
Ajuda
Responsibilities: As a volunteer of you will gain hands-on experience helping the tea farmers and local communities to cultivate and harvest organic tea through sustainable farming methods. Tasks and projects vary depending on the season and current needs. Farm maintenance chores include soil preparation, weed control, starting seedlings, tea plucking,processing by hand, pruning, harvesting potatoes,processing turmeric by hand and packaging.
April, May, June, July, August, September:- Mostly plucking tea.
October, November and December :-Harvesting tea and processing the leafs at home but harvesting will be less than other time and beside tea we will ask the help for carrying compost, sometimes planting vegetables and gardening.
January, February and March :- cleaning tea field, gardening, weeding, carring, cutting wood so on.

Accommodation: Volunteers stay at a home with our families. Nepali people are extremely hospitable and volunteers will be well looked after, however the accommodation will be typically Nepali and therefore basic by Western standards. Toilets and showers are usually cold Nepali style, and the electricity supply in many places can be unreliable. We have lots of previous experience in looking after volunteers. Volunteers are given a simple room with very basic things.
Meals: Based on Nepalese dining customs, we provide two major meals a day plus tea and snack breaks. Tea is available if you like. Brunch is served around 9 to 10 am and is usually typical Nepali food, dal/bhat (rice, lentils, and vegetables). At around 3 pm will be tea ( Monday, Tuesday, wednesday,Friday and Saturday). Dinner is at around 7 to 8 pm. The food is very simple vegan base but also extremely tasty and filling. Vegetables mostly comes from our own gardens. Fresh milk and curd are also provided if available.

I spent amazing two weeks at Deepak's house. The food was amazing. Every Dal Bhat was different, I never ate the same meal twice. My stay at Deepak farm was very funny. Deepak is very attentive to the well being of everyone. I learnt a lot about the culture of tea.
Kosilla is an excellent cook. It is a family of hard workers.

Me and my boyfriend had two amazing weeks at the tea farm in may. Deepak and his family are so friendly and so funny. We did not only plug tea, but did also learn about other projects as for example cardamom plants and tumeric. Regarding the earthquake conditions - its totally fine and safe.

Volunteered here in May 2014. An awesome way to get to know Nepal. The food is awesome, the area is stunning and the family is lovely. Deepak always had activities planned which was very nice. We also went to a few parties and learned about the Nepalese culture (I am now fluent in Nepalese). Excellent experience, highly recommended.
