Hi there!

I'm Federica, an 21 year old Italian from Brescia, living in the Netherlands. At the moment, I'm completing my second year of Global Studies bachelor at Maastricht University.

I'm a curious soul with a passion for watersports, languages, and learning about new cultures. Since I was young, I had the opportunity to travel and live in different countries (such as the US and the Netherlands) and this helped me develop an open mindset, intercultural skills and empathy. You can see me riding the Kandy-Ella train in my profile picture, during my latest Sri Lankan adventure :)

I've been thinking about volunteering for a while now, and I've decided that this year will be the one! I'm planning to volunteer in July, since that's when my University summer break will happen.

I'm open to different options, but I'm mostly looking at Spanish-speaking countries where I can practice my Spanish, and hopefully surf and hike around if I get the chance :)

One of my main reasons to volunteer is to improve my Spanish language skills though getting involved with a Hispanic community. I’d be happy to do a language exchange, and teach Italian or English :)

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I’ve always loved being in multicultural environments, which is probably why I’ve jumped at every chance to study and live in different countries. Growing up speaking Italian, I became fluent in English (C1), got pretty comfortable with Spanish (B2), and even picked up some French (A1). My exchange year in the U.S. and my studies in Milan and Maastricht have definitely put my language skills to the test and made me realize how much I enjoy connecting with people from different backgrounds.

Communication has always been one of my strengths, whether it is explaining homework to kids at the recreation center, keeping two energetic toddlers entertained while babysitting, or navigating university discussions in multiple languages. I’m quick to adapt, thrive under pressure, and love solving problems, especially in fast-paced, dynamic settings. My curiosity about social issues and international relations keeps me engaged in new ideas, and I’m always up for a good conversation that challenges my perspective.

I would say empathy and active listening are two of my biggest strengths. Working with kids, whether as a babysitter or teaching assistant, taught me how important it is to really listen not just to what is being said, but to what is left unsaid. Sometimes, a child struggling with homework just needs encouragement, not answers. The same goes for connecting with people from different cultures; studying and living abroad has shown me how valuable it is to approach conversations with curiosity and an open mind. Whether I’m helping someone work through a challenge or just being there to listen, I always try to create a space where people feel understood and supported.

I’m an extroverted, chatty person and I love to have people around me, but I still cherish having some time for my self.

While volunteering, if time allows it, I’d love to explore around the region where I will be based and learn about local culture and traditions.
