¡Hola!

Somos Nelly y Lenny, tenemos 24 años y planeamos un viaje de alrededor de 10 meses a varios países de América del Sur, comenzando en Colombia en julio de 2024.

En 2019/20 hicimos un voluntariado en una escuela primaria alemana en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, donde nos conocimos y nos enamoramos :). Desde entonces soñamos viajar juntos otra vez y debido a nuestras experiencias maravillosas en las Islas Canarias, donde también conocimos a mucha gente de diferentes países de América Latina, nuestra elección fue bastante clara: ¡Viajaremos a América del Sur!

Como workawayers, queremos contribuir a los países que visitamos en lugar de simplemente hacer "cosas turísticas" y conocer la vida de la gente. Queremos aprender nuevas tareas y estamos interesados en el trabajo y los proyectos ecológicos y culturales. Nos encantaría mejorar nuestro nivel de español y aprender las diferencias regionales en el uso del idioma y la cultura (como tradiciones, música, bailes, cocina, etc.). Es la primera vez que hacemos work&travel y estamos esperando las experiencias que haremos con entusiasmo.

Lo que traemos con nosotros:

Nelly:
Estudio psicología en la Universidad de Landau en Alemania, planeando trabajar como psicoterapeuta en el futuro. Me gusta conocer gente nueva y hablar de diferentes aspectos de la vida, de la sociedad y del mundo en el que vivimos. En mi tiempo libre, me gusta leer, dibujar y descubrir la naturaleza, pero también realizo arte circense (principalmente malabares) como pasatiempo y escucho mucha música con Lenny. Tengo algo de experiencia en el trabajo con niños (como entrenadora de circo, niñera y voluntaria en una escuela primaria) y he tenido clases de español en la escuela secundaria durante cinco años.

Lenny:
Al haber nacido con dos nacionalidades (alemana y húngara), siempre he tenido la mente abierta a otras culturas e idiomas. Hablo alemán y húngaro como lenguas maternas y logré habilidades en inglés y latín en la escuela. Durante el tiempo que estuve en Gran Canaria aprendí mucho español pasando tiempo con habitantes canarios y tocando música juntos.
Me encanta la esgrima y probar diferentes deportes, pero lo más importante es que encontré mi pasión por enseñar y entrenar a la gente. Es por eso que estudio educación física y química en la Universidad de Kaiserslautern para hacerme profesor de secundaria.
Sin embargo, mi verdadero amor es la música. Toco el piano, la guitarra, el ukelele, la armónica y me gusta cantar. Cuando me queda un poco de tiempo durante mis estudios (y estoy de humor), intento componer canciones originales.

Hello!

We are Nelly and Lenny, both 24 years old and planning a journey for around 10 months to several countries in South America, starting in Colombia in july 2024.

In 2019/20 we had been volunteering at a German elementary school in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where we met each other and fell in love :). We`ve been dreaming of traveling together again ever since and our great experiences at the Canary Islands, where we also met many people from different Latin American countries, made our choice quite clear: We would visit South America!

As workawayers, we want to contribute to the countries we visit instead of simply doing "tourist things" and get to know the life of the people. We are very open minded to learning new tasks and are interested in ecological as well as cultural work and projects. We would love to improve our Spanish-speaking-skills and learn about the regional differences in language-use and culture (such as traditions, music, dances, cooking and so on). It is our first time doing work&travel and we are looking forward to the experiences we will make traveling via workaway.

What we bring with us:

Nelly:
I study psychology at Landau University in Germany, planning to become a psychotherapist in the future. I like to meet new people and talk about different aspects of life, such as the way we influence our social environment and the world we live in. In my free time, I like to read and draw and discover the nature, but I also perform circus artistics (mainly juggling) as a hobby and listen to a lot of music with Lenny. I have some experience in working with children (as a circus trainer, babysitter and volunteer at an elementary school) and I`ve had Spanish classes at high school for five years.

Lenny:
Being born with two nationalities (German and Hungarian) I have always been open minded for other cultures and languages. I speak German and Hungarian as my mother tongues and accomplished skills in English and Latin in school. During my time on Gran Canaria I learned a lot of Spanish by spending time with locals and jamming music together.
I love fencing and trying out different sports, but most impotantly I found my passion for teaching and coaching people. That’s why I study physical education and chemistry at University of Kaiserslautern to become a high school teacher.
My true love is music though. I play the piano, guitar, ukulele, harmonica and like to sing. When I have some time left during my studies (and I am in the right mood), I try composing original songs.

Nelly

Experiencia trabajando con niños:
Cuando tenía 16-17 años, trabajé como niñera para nuestros vecinos, cuidando a su hijo de 3-4 años de vez en cuando. Como instructora de circo en un circo juvenil, desde hace casi 10 años realizo divertidas sesiones de entrenamiento, espectáculos circenses y campamentos de vacaciones con niños de 6 a 17 años. Mis disciplinas circenses son malabares, poi, flowersticks, arte del fuego y acrobacias.
Como voluntaria en una escuela primaria alemana en España 2019/20, asistí a tres profesores y sus clases (con niños de 6-7 años), acompañando a todas las clases, ayudando a niños con dificultades de aprendizaje y realizando pequeños proyectos. Durante este tiempo, también me encargué de algunos cursos para alumnos entre 5 y 15 años, como el "club de creatividad y cocina" y el "club de pintura".
Cuando empecé a estudiar en Alemania, trabajé para una agencia que ofrece clases privadas para alumnos, principalmente enseñando inglés y alemán. Disfruto mucho trabajar, entrenar y hacer manualidades con niños y me gusta ayudarlos a descubrir sus fortalezas personales.

Habilidades personales:
Me describiría como una persona de mente abierta y amable a la que le gusta aprender de nuevas experiencias. He trabajado en diferentes equipos durante mis prácticas (de la universidad) y siempre me ha resultado muy útil aprender de los demás y confiar en los demás para obtener ayuda y feedback. Durante estas experiencias, mis colegas me decían que fuera un buen oyente y que tuviera una buena estructura/actitud de trabajo. También aprendí mucho sobre técnicas de relajación, por lo que pude probar ofrecer cursos de relajación.
Aparte de eso, mis habilidades en la cocina, así como en la pintura, la cerámica y la escritura pueden ser útiles para algunos hosts de workaway. Disfruto escribir textos creativos y poemas, así como textos profesionales para páginas web, cursos, etc. Mi lengua materna es alemán, pero también hablo inglés (B2), español (B1) y un poco de francés (A2). No tengo mucha experiencia en proyectos de siembra/cosecha o construcción, pero me encantaría acumular algo de experiencia en eso.


Lenny

Cualidades Educativas:
Desde los 17 años estuve ayudando en mi club local de esgrima y he estado a cargo del grupo de niños principiantes. Al cabo de un año adquirí la licencia de la Confederación Alemana de Deportes Olímpicos para ser entrenador de esgrima competitiva y desde entonces he estado trabajando con jóvenes atletas emergentes. Mi trabajo como entrenador me motivó a seguir una carrera como profe y me ha llevado a hacer un año voluntario en la escuela primaria de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, trabajé como asistente de los profes y, finalmente, enseñando a los niños yo mismo como profe sustituto.
De vuelta en Alemania comencé a estudiar educación física y química, graduándome de Bachelor en educación este verano. Dentro de mis estudios, las prácticas en colegios son muy habituales y he estado trabajando ocasionalmente como profe sustituto y tutor de alemán, inglés, latín y matemáticas también. Durante mis estudios de educación física también obtuve una licencia como instructor de Stand-Up Paddle, lo que sería útil en una región costera.

Habilidades lingüísticas:
Alemán y húngaro como lenguas maternas, inglés (B2), español (B1), certificado avanzado del latín

Artesanía/Agricultura:
Mi padre me enseñó a manejar herramientas, a construir camas y gallineros o a renovar un baño. Además, me llevó a ver a su mejor amigo, que era granjero y ahora recolecta faisanes y conducíamos tractores, construíamos pajareras, talábamos árboles o cosechamos manzanas y las procesábamos para convertirlas en jugo. Cuando era niño, nunca quise un perro o un gato, sino gallinas, así que conseguí 3 gallinas viviendo en mi jardín, planté tomates, calabazas, papas y soñaba con tener una pequeña granja autosuficiente en medio de una ciudad. Pero desafortunadamente tan pronto como comencé a estudiar perdí el camino de este pequeño sueño, pero me encantaría revivirlo.
Otras habilidades:
Me encanta tocar en jam sessions y organizar pequeños conciertos, tocando el piano, la guitarra, el ukelele, la armónica y cantando. No hay nada mejor que una fogata con gente cantando ;)
¡También tengo un permiso internacional de conducir!

Nelly

Experience working with children:
I worked as a baby sitter for our neighbours, looking after their 3-4 year old son every now and then when I was 16-17. As a circus trainer at a youth circus, I realize fun training sessions, circus shows and holiday camps with children aged 6-17 for almost 10 years now. My circus disciplines are juggling, poi, flowersticks, fire-artistics and acrobatics.
As a volunteer at a German elementary school in Spain 2019/20, I assisted the teachers and children in second grade, accompanying all the classes, helping children with learning difficulties and realizing small projects. During this time, I also took care of some afternoon activities for school children between 5 and 15, like the "creativity and cooking club" and the "painting club".
When I started to study in Germany, I worked for an agency that offers private lessons for school children for one year, mostly teaching English and German. I enjoy working, training, and doing handcrafts/arts with children a lot and like to help them discover their personal strenghts.

Personal abilities:
I would describe myself as an open-minded and friendly person that likes to take new challenges and learn from new experiences. I`ve been working in different team settings during my study-internships and always found it very helpful to learn from others and rely on each other for help and feedback. During these experiences, I was often told to be a good listener and have a good structure/work attitude. I also learned a lot about relaxation techniques, so that I could probably provide relaxation courses.
Other than that, my skills in cooking as well as painting/pottery/handcrafting and writing might come in handy for some workaway hosts. I enjoy writing creative texts and poems as well as professional texts for websites, courses and so on. My mother tongue is German, but I also speak English (B2), Spanish (B1) and some French (A2) and am generally very interested in language. I do not have much experience in planting/harvesting or building projects, but I would love to gather some experience here.


Lenny

Educational Qualities:
Since the age of 17 I was helping in my local fencing club and have been in charge of the beginners kids group. Within a year I acquired the licence of the German Olympic Sports Confederation to be a coach for competitive fencing and have been working with young upcoming athletes ever since.
My work as a coach motivated me to pursue a career as a teacher and has led me to do a voluntary year at the elementary school in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, working as an assistent for the teachers and eventually teach the kids myself as a substitute teacher.
Back in Germany I started studying physical education and chemistry, graduating my bachelor of education this summer. Within my studies, internships in schools are very common and I have been working occasionally as a substitute teacher and a tutor for German, English, Latin and Maths as well. During my studies of physical education I also achieved a licence as a Stand-Up Paddling instructor, which would come in handy in a coastal region.

Language skills:
German and Hungarian as my mother tongues, English (B2), Spanish (B1), Advanced proficiency certificate in Latin

Craftsmanship/Farming:
My father taught me to handle tools, building beds and henhouses or renovating a bathroom. Furthermore he brought me to his best friend who was a farmer and now collects pheasants and we were driving tractors, building birdhouses, logging trees or harvesting apples and processing them into juice. As a kid I never wanted a dog or a cat but chickens and so I got 3 hens living in my garden, planted tomatoes, pumpkins, potatoes and I dreamed of having a self supporting little farm in the middle of a city. But unfortunately as soon as I started studying I lost track on this little dream, but would love to revive it.

Other abilities:
I love to play in jam sessions and arrange little concerts, playing piano, guitar, ukulele, harmonica and singing. There ain´t nothing better than a campfire with singing people ;)

I also have an international driving licence!
