Hello,
I'm Clara, a 27 years old student and currently finishing my master degree in sustainability economics and management. Next to my studies, I work as a project assistant in a research project that promotes the participation of local communities in forest restoration in Tanzania.

In my free time, I'm volunteering for a non-profit organisation that helps homeless people in the city where I live in. As part of my hobbies I enjoy spending time in nature or in our little garden, where my flatmates and I grow different herbs and vegetables. I also love cooking or baking for my familiy and friends.

I would describe myself as an open-minded, kind and respectful person that is very interested in making new experiences, learning new things and meeting new people. During my travels as a workawayer, it's important to me to be a good help for my hosts and to make a positive contribution to their projects and goals. I'm keen to learn a lot about the places and people I visit and to get to know their culture, values and ways of living.

Aron and his wife Jessica are phantastic hosts and this is a really cool young NGO with great aspirations and a thoughtful, holistic approach to the environmental and social problems they are addressing. By focusing on the role of native trees for people and biodiversity, they support the livelihoods of local communities, helping farmers to… read more overcome poverty while at the same time protecting natural forest ecosystems.

I stayed with them for two weeks in April 2025 and even though I could only be there for a short time, I experienced a lot and had a really great time. The people here are super friendly and welcoming, and their many ideas and commitment are truly inspiring and motivating. The work is very interesting, there is a diversity of tasks and topics to work on and as a volunteer you have a lot of freedom and many possibilities to decide what you would like to do and how you would like to structure your day so that it fits well for you.

Aron and Jessica are really lovely, warm-hearted and open-minded people and it was a wonderful experience to stay with them in their home. I shared a room with Mati from Italy, who was there at the same time and we had a lot of fun together both at home and in the office, and especially at our many trips within around the city. At the house, we had many nice dinners together with amazing Tanzanian dishes and really interesting conversations where I learned a lot about the country, its people and their culture. Aron has a lot of great stories to share, you can talk to him about basically anything you like and he is really fun and full of good energy.

Morogoro is a cool city, there are many nice things to see and I really liked the mix of busy streets and crowded markets and quiet lanes to take a walk and enjoy the beautiful mountain view. It's very easy to get around and also as a young women, I felt very safe and comfortable in the city and the neighbourhood of Aron and Jessica. There are many options to go on trips, for example hiking in the wonderful Uluguru mountains, which are right next to the city or taking a bus to the Udzungwa mountains. Also, there is a very modern and cheap train that you can take to go to Daressalam or Dodoma. Overall, I would say the area is great to find a good mix of doing a lot of exciting things and slowing down to have some peaceful hakuna matata moments :)

I am very grateful to everyone who shared their time, work, home and perspectives with me in these two unforgettable weeks. It was a truly meaningful experience and I will keep many good and happy memories! Asante sana for everything

She worked really hard for us during a busy time and always did her work to a high standard and with great care.
