I had a wonderful time staying with Josh. He made me feel comfortable from the very beginning, and he was always kind and thoughtful in making sure I felt at home. Working in the garden was a lot of fun, as it gave me the opportunity to learn more about plants and gardening, an area in which Josh has a lot of knowledge. I also loved taking care of the adorable chickens, and his garden is so beautiful and very calming, being there made me feel deeply connected to nature. We shared many deep conversations and I am very grateful to Josh for sharing so much of his life, his thoughts, and his knowledge with me. He also took me to see some lovely places around Auckland and introduced me to many wonderful people, including his family. Josh also has a great deal of knowledge about astronomy and the stars, and I really enjoyed stargazing with him on his roof. He made me feel truly comfortable and at home and genuinely became a friend to me. Thank you so much for the entire experience and for the many great memories ♡

From late October to mid December I stayed with Hafize and shared life with her for two months at the end of the year. She'd said that she doesn't get many volunteers during the winter, so my experience may have differred than other volunteers she's had. Hafize lives in a big house in the mountains south I'd the city of Antalya, a short walk from Altinyaka village. She has a big garden full of fruit trees, and the whole mountainside is covered pine trees. You'll wake up every morning to see a vista of snow capped mountains (well, in Winter at least). The mountains are beautiful and isolated, for those wanting to get away from city life. The village, Altinyaka, is a short 20 minute walk and has a small shop (the owner also operates a private bus to the nearest town for a fee). There's also hiking trails and the hills nearby are a fairly easy trek if you're looking for a change of scenery on the walk to the village. During my time with her we'd also taken a few trips to Kumluca - 20 minutes drive away -, and spent time together in a flat in Antalya - 50 minutes drive away - for a few days at a time while she visited friends and it was a bit warmer in the Winter (Hafize did mention that she likes to stay in the mountains in the summer to avoid the city's heat then...). I'd helped Hafize out with a mix of garden and house work mostly. Doing cleaning, and clearing the land initially. And preparing the house and garden for the winter. There were some tasks she'd wanted completed, like rebuilding a chicken coup or expanding her vegetable garden so they could be used in the Summer. Besides other sporadic things like collecting scrap wood for future building projects, harvesting her Quince, Fig and other fruits, or doing repairs following some heavy rain. Day to day life was simple, and mostly spent with tasks and time with Hafize (and her cats). Each morning I'd empty the fire ash from the night before and resupply the fire for the upcoming night (which was used for heating the house and cooking - though Hafize has a regular gas oven too). And otherwise tidying the garden and letting the chicken flock out to forage. ...Besides making sure the chickens also didn't sneak in and eat all the cat food too. Hafize makes all her meals at home, and there's plenty of opportunities to try local food with her. Fresh ingredients at the markets in town are affordable, so we seldom did without. During my time we were still harvesting fruit from the garden, which she'd often share with her friends in town or cook into jam or deserts. Oh, and the chickens kept us in a ready supply of eggs if you're wanting to use those for cooking breakfast. :) If you're wanting to spend time somewhere rural, Hafize is good company - and I can only wish more people come and visit. She was going through some hardship while I was with her, and it's a shame that my Turkish wasn't stronger so I could have been a better companion to her in that time. She's a lovely person, and I'm sure her place would be a welcoming home to whoever decides to stay with her next. I'd really urge other Workawayers to consider her profile if looking for a host in the area, and couldn't give her less than the highest rating here. Till we meet again Hafize. Definitely recommend, great location, you get to live in beautiful heritage house. Maria is also really helpful and we had a lot of meaningful conversations and I got the chance to read some books from her wide book colection.

We had such a great stay with Lisa, Bernhard, Theo and Levi. It was our first time in Austria and Lisa and Bernhard were so helpful in teaching us about Christmas traditions and their every day life, meals and language. Lisa is an amazing chef and had lots of knowledge about the surrounding mountains. We really appreciated she invited us snowshoeing on her day off. Bernhard was very patient in teaching us how to cut and store wood and to operate the wood stove. He is a fun person with a good sense of humour. The boys Theo and Levi are full of energy, so funny and cheeky. They are confident with strangers, which was awesome as they were comfortable to talk and play straight away. They understand English well and taught us some German words when we were playing ! We will miss their cute faces and voices. We had a lot of fun during our stay and got to experience alot about homesteading. Thank you for having us stay.

Anna stayed with us for two weeks in 2025. She is independent, calm and quiet. She helped with a variety of tasks: cleaning, gardening, painting, making apple jam and supporting small projects around the houses. She works cheerfully and reliably, and we could always trust her to handle her tasks promptly. Communication was always easy, even though she didn’t speak much Spanish, and we hope she picked up a little while she was here. She got along very well with other volunteers and they made a great team. We wish her all the best on her journey and would be happy to welcome her again.

Mehdi war eine Woche bei uns in Goldschau. Er ist ein ruhiger, offenherziger und angenehmer Mensch, den man gerne um sich hat. Im Zusammenleben war er immer sehr höflich, unkompliziert und hat sich gut an unseren Alltag hier angepasst. Er hat uns fleißig bei unseren Projekten unterstützt. Mehdi ist sehr positiv und lebensfroh und hat viele spannende Pläne und Ziele. Wir wünschen ihm das Allerbeste und er ist jederzeit in Goldschau Willkommen!

Luis was a delight to host . He has a very good work ethic and is skilled in many areas. He was always ready to help with whatever we were doing. Although his English wasn't great it was not a problem as he always tried hard and soon understood. He also has a good sense of humour and so he was fun to have around. I highly recommend him to other hosts

It’s my first time in Germany, and I’ve lived with this lovely family as a workawayer for a month and a half. Tobi and Lisa are super nice and did their best to make me feel engaged and included! They generously shared typical German food and traditions, taught me English and German, invited me to Christian events, and even asked me to celebrate the upcoming Christmas with them!They also helped me with everything in my daily life here. The four kids are super lovely, and I had a fantastic time with them. I am deeply grateful for everything they have done for me and for the genuine, beautiful connection and friendship we’ve built.I would be very happy to return if things allow! Wishing Tobi, Lisa, and their family a life filled with continued love and happiness!

Maya was brilliant to have around! She had great energy, a can-do attitude and she cooked us delicious meals! She was great with my baby and I really appreciated her using her art skills to do a few projects that I hadnt found time for ☺️ She’s really smart, too

My time with Chris was short but very enjoyable. His foods are not just healthy and also tasty 😋. Me and Clara help him in two places. So we could campaign in Megalong Valley and saw a huge amount of Kangaroos. The work is dependent on your skill. I am good in organizing but not building. Therefore Clara help more in building and I help in organizing. His home in Katoomba is really close to three sisters and a lot of hiking trails. You won't get bored here if you like nature.

Jessica was very quick reply to message and set up video call time.(You don't have to wait long time 😉) She is very much organized person and won't waste your time. The place is very close to train station and Jessica can give a lot local information and cultural support too. She is the first female I knew who really good and know about DIY. I learned a lot from her. We have quite a few conversations and she is knowledgeable, well traveled person. Thank you for having me and teaching me 😊

I want to thank Putra and Maya for all their hospitality and kindness while I was staying with them. Putra is an amazing leader in his community and had lots of plans to improve the lives of the people there and he cares deeply about the rainforest and the urang-utan. I helped with an English lesson for the local children who were adorable and very respectful. Also, I helped plant some durian seeds that will grow into saplings to be planed to the benefit of the urang-utan so they are not tempted to come into contact with humans. The tasks were well explained and I was assisted by Putra all along. I was generously housed in a private hut with a private bathroom and also really enjoyed the river being so close. Terima kasih, Putra & everyone there!

I stayed here for a total of five weeks. Originally, I planned to stay for only eight days, but I truly fell in love with this place. So after about a month, I returned and stayed for an additional four weeks. My role here was to help the host create the content he wanted. I taught him how to use a laptop and how to edit videos, and I also helped him choose a suitable microphone and a new phone for content creation. Beyond that, my work included assisting him whenever he had difficulties using his laptop and digital tools. I worked about two hours a day, which meant that after work, I had plenty of time to cook whatever I wanted. I especially enjoyed cooking Korean food and sharing it with my host. Seeing him enjoy my food so much made cooking even more joyful for me, and through this experience, I truly felt that my cooking skills improved a lot. I had been traveling around the world for about five months, and I really needed rest. This host’s home was a perfect place for me. I was able to rest deeply in my private room, take walks in nature, write in my journal, and cook my own meals. All of this gave me an incredible amount of inspiration. I was also deeply inspired by conversations with my host and his perspective on life. Even at the age of 80, he continues to create his own content, learn new things, and share his positive mindset with the world. Watching this motivated and inspired me greatly. If you come here as a guest, you will meet a joyful artist who wears three cute balloons on his hat and brings smiles to people and children wherever he goes.

Highly recommended experience. We spent three weeks in Atong Baol, and the days flew by. It was our first Workaway experience and I think it will be hard to beat. We helped with Julia and Jackie’s project, learning how to make raised beds, plant fruit trees using human compost, transplant plants, make vermicompost, and many other things. We also helped with the construction of some elements and with general maintenance of the place. The work is manageable, although it’s advisable to start early in the morning to avoid the heat (they have no problem with you starting earlier). At all times we felt very comfortable, and they both made an effort to teach us things and spend time with us, for example showing us how to make tofu and soy milk. We truly left very happy to have met them and to have spent time there. It is admirable to see their passion for nature, animals, and a sustainable and conscious lifestyle. We loved having Armando and Martina to stay with us. They are respectful, polite, friendly, trustworthy and easy to get along with. They helped us an enormous amount around the property - doing gardening, cleaning, babysitting, yard work and also some cooking. They were a delight with our small children and also our dogs. They left everything beautifully clean and tidy. We had lovely chats with them and their English is very good. They were eager to learn about permaculture, and to gain some skills in handy work and building. We really loved having them to stay and we would highly recommend this couple. We will miss you guys!

Jelle and Luna stayed with us for 2 weeks helping out in the garden, and the experience was a very positive one. They are very energetic workers, and worked beyond what was required of them on some days. They cooked some really great meals which really suited the kinds of food our family eats, and made our last evening fun with a special meal and family game. They left their room clean and tidy, and were generally thoughtful guests to have. Communication was really good, they aren't afraid to ask questions to be sure to get the work right. We really appreciate the hard work they put into our garden and wish them all the best on their future travels!

Can't recommend this lovely lady enough ... A beautiful clear smile greeted us , carrying a positive energy to be around and genuine curiosity about the world / culture around her. We were simply blown away with her work ethic and energy ... just try and stop her ;) - she went far beyond what we had hoped for as our 1st workaway experience. All with a smile and whilst oozing gratitude for her time with us , simply infectious happiness. Also very impressed with her respect in sharing spaces , allowing the natural rhythm of the family whilst fitting in unobtrusively - our week whilst she was here was very much enriched on many levels. We loved hosting Alicia here and would have her back in heartbeat !

We've spent 12 days at Resort in Khao Sok National Park. This is definitely the best WorkAway we've experienced so far after having used the platform for 2 years in Australia and made so many connections and new friends. Bodhi offered us the experience of working on the new resort by creating new photos and videos for the website and social media. The job was absolutely amazing because we've also shared the volunteering with other travellers from all around Europe sharing ideas and skills. You also have the chance to have real contact with Thai people, especially with local guides during each activity. P Nong has been so far the best encounter in Khao Sok and she's fluent in English with a big background as guide and as a person - she's the key to communicate with locals. Marius have been with us the whole time guiding us through every activities and content that need to be created and scheduled. The accommodation is amazing and he was always taking care of our needs. Marius has been living in Thailand for over 8 years now and he shared with us his passion for Thailand and Thai people and culture showing us hidden gems and stories. Thank you for having us in this amazing place: you're a great team and we hope to be back one day to see how the resort and the team has grown and flourish. :)

Sam is a good man and a good helper. He was with us for 3 weeks and did a lot of work that we will remember with gratitude. He installed a fence in the chicken area, dug and filled the paths in the garden with stones, prepared holes for planting sorrel and did a lot of small but important work. And also helped with the construction. We recommend him as a diligent helper. Good luck to you Sam. Come visit us again.
