I had such an amazing experience! I was meant to stay 2 weeks and ended up staying a month and just not wanting to leave. This is such a calm, laid back and lovely hostel surrended by lovely people. The work is very fair and easy, you get plenty of time to rest and explore (Hanna is so helpful with buses and indications) and the amount of food you get to cook is really nice! I felt so welcomed and valued as a volunteer, would definitely recommend! Thanks to Hanna and Mario for trusting me so much, and big love to Sylvi and Sala for making me feel part of the family also.

We were immediately welcomed by Mauro and Yose's family; all the instructions and the organization of the help were always very clear and shared. We helped out in the garden, keeping the interiors clean, and assisting with kitchen tasks. There are some precautions to take in the daily use of the spaces and in helping in the kitchen, but it's easy to learn. Although our Spanish was limited, it was always very easy to communicate. The tea house, the garden, the orchard are beautiful and it's a pleasure to spend time in this little place. Every day we had supplies and the opportunity to prepare meals according to each person's needs, and we often had dinner together. We asked Yose and Mauro for advice on how to best experience the place, and by the end, we almost felt like locals. The volunteers live in a small house/outbuilding and Mauro was very clear in introducing it to us when we first texted. It's worth taking advantage of this clarity and carefully considering whether you're willing to stay for a period of time in a small space with other volunteers: the conditions of the spaces can be very delicate, often leading to queues to use the bathroom or the kitchen or having to reschedule laundry because there's only a small drying rack outside, only one window that can be opened in the house, and other small compromises to make. Take initiative to keep them clean: Mauro and Yose are always available to provide whatever is needed

Kathleen and James were incredibly sweet and attentive with Lila and Luna. They asked thoughtful questions and were very proactive, even about things I had forgotten to mention, like the plants. They kept me updated with photos where it was clear the cats were comfortable and well cared for. Although we didn’t meet in person, our video calls and constant communication were very important to me and helped a lot. I truly appreciate the care they gave and would gladly recommend them to any host.

Dear Robin & Grant, Thank you so much for two amazing weeks in your beautiful home and for making me feel like part of your Aussie family from the very first moment. I truly felt welcome immediately!☺️❤️ At first, I stayed alone in a lovely room, which, coming from hostel life, was an absolute dream. There were three other lovely Workawayers staying with me, and we shared a really great time both during work and our free time together. The work tasks Robin gave us were always fair and never too hard. Most of the time we did gardening or other jobs around the house, such as cooking and baking, which I really enjoyed. We baked lots of shortbread and Vanillekipferl :) or i decortated the christamas tree which was another cool experience diffrently to back home. The work was usually around four hours per day. In the evenings, we all ate together and enjoyed delicious food with a stunning view of nature from the terrace. Robin and Grant shared many funny stories and life experiences and also told us about their travels around Australia and the world. There was always a relaxed, warm, and joyful atmosphere. During my free time and days off, Robin and Grant were always happy to drop me off so I could explore Coffs or Bellingen, or to take us to really cool events like ~> their son’s little concert in Woolgoolga, Christmas Bingo Night, the neighbourhood Christmas party, the Dorrigo Markets, and the community markets in Bellingen. I also met Jackie, their other son, as well as other family members and friends. They were really lovely, and we had such a fun time and chat together. And of course, I must not forget their wonderful pets: Ponchi, Plumy, Blacky, and Ginger. From the very first moment, they stole my heart, especially Blacky, who absolutely loves cuddles! Robin and Grant are truly special, kind-hearted people, and I’m incredibly grateful to have met you both on my work and travel journey! Wishing you all the very best! xx Katharina 🫶

Fábio or Rio as he introduced himself as, is a lovely boy very hardworking and skilled at everything he does. We enjoyed his company and sharing a short time together. When sharing a close space while we were both going through transitions periods in our lives, Rio became uncomfortable around me(Guillermo). These things happen when living in community and communication is key to resolving any issues. Things need to be brought to the table as they come up or else resentment and tension build up and cause imbalances in the community. The issue was only brought up when I could truly feel something was off and I confronted him about it, but by this point it was already too late and his mind was made up he left the next day. I'm grateful for his company and contribution to the project and for the learning I received from the interaction. Welcome anytime

Fredrik was a wonderful sitter. He was very kind, responsible, and generous with his time. Communication was always easy and clear, and he kept me regularly updated with messages and photos, which I truly appreciated. It was clear from his updates that Lila and Luna were well cared for and treated with genuine affection. He has great energy, and I would happily recommend him to any host.

Francesca & Davide were fantastic hosts. They are organised, passionate and inspiring people. From the minute we met they went out of their way to help and encourage us to have a positive experience. Their communication was professional, warm and welcoming. We witnessed them work so well as a team, taking on the project of the lodge like it was their own. They never missed a beat, it was inspiring seeing them have so much drive and excitement for what they were doing. It was such a pleasure working and spending time exploring, surfing and cooking beautiful food together. It felt like home away from home meeting you two and we are so grateful. We cant wait to see what you do next. Looking forward to the day we see eachother again. Lots of love, Poppy and Liam X

We had a very great time at Sadhu’s place. He and his family are very nice and integrating people. The food, Esmeralda cooked was amazing and we learned how to make Arepas from Arturo! The work was sometimes tough, but we had a lot of change and diversity in our tasks! One of our favourites was our trip together with Sadhu to Vereda cerro el tablazo. We would recommend this place to everyone!

I loved my stay in Casablanca at this english school. The tasks of the volunteers are exactly as they wrote them down and I really enjoyed teaching the students. You learn a lot from them about Morroco and their culture. Sara and her team are the nicest people I met. You feel their love and that they are really passionate about hosting the volunteers. The place of the school in Casablanca is also really nice. Thank you so much for having me- I loved this experience!

I was very lucky to have met Natalie. She fully embraced the ecoconscious way of living that I’m trying to promote through my project. She is very diligent and also a real pleasure to talk and spend time with. She took great care of the orto and was able to prepare lunches and dinners using the vegetables grown there, which I was truly grateful for. A huge hug from Origine Nomade

Matthew was a great workawayer! We hosted him only for 2 months that went by quickly. He is a very smart , knowledgeable guy with a good sense of humour. We had great conversations of the most varied topics and I can recommend him to any other postential host. He will always be welcome here .

Jaime is a great guy and a conscientious host. I could tell right away that he was serious about making sure his volunteers have the best time possible and get the most out of Queretaro. His house has a super relaxed atmosphere and it's located right in the center of the city with tons of stuff to do if you're willing to put yourself out there. For anyone looking to meet great people and immerse themselves in Mexican culture, I'd highly recommend this place. Also, shout out to Frita.

We had an amazing 3 nights staying with Can and Sevda! They are both extremely welcoming, hospitable and lovely people that we had the pleasure to get to know. Being Australians, Can was extremely kind and took us both on his own personalised Gallipolli tour to different memorials and locations around the area that related to our ANZAC soldiers. We can not thank him enough for that experience! Not only that, we had the opportunity to cook tradition Turkish dumplings (manti) together for dinner one night which was a lot of fun! For our accommodation we had our own private home on his property with a bathroom and kitchen, all of which was very clean and tidy. The work was very easy and flexible, we helped clear rubbish in a part of the garden and took it to the dump. The experience was definitely more focused on a cultural exchange, we learnt so much about each others cultures through conversation during the day and over dinner. Overall we would highly recommend this experience to anyone!

Gracias

This was my first workaway experience and wow ! I really felt that in the short time I was in Kelaa I was able to feel a sense of belonging and community. I was welcomed so warmly by everyone at school and in Kelaa more widely. Several of the teachers went out of their way to show me around and introduce me to some of their local customs and traditions. Said was extremely helpful and very generous with his time. He would happily show us around Kelaa, including taking us to the weekly Souk. My lessons were enjoyable and my students were keen to learn. Often there is a greater demand for classes than 15 hours a week, but the receptionist staff are helpful, so just let them know what your working capacity is and if you need to make any adjustments to your timetable. Sundays are always free and a good opportunity for a day trip. Rachid can also offer some Darija classes if you're interested in learning and can also help with organising trips on Sundays. I really do hope that I have the chance to return to Kelaa in the near future - inshallah! Bsslama

Suse is just amazing! She really is one of a kind and has left on me an everlasting and very positive mark. She is the kind of person that lights up the room when she enters and always has a fascinating story to tell. She is also very devoted, and I got to learn a lot staying at her place. I learned how to build, paint, brush-cut, use a chainsaw, etc., but most importantly I got to learn more about Tasmania, its people and its way of life. With all these skills I learned, Suse was great at advertising me for doing odd jobs, and I was able to work for the neighbours during my free time. I have fallen in love with Tassie and the Far South; so many great people, so many magnificent landscapes to see, it must now be in my top 5 of places on earth. In fact, I liked it here so much that I cancelled my flight to go back to the mainland to stay 2–3 weeks more. So thanks again, Suse! I will miss you and Tassie.
