I honestly don’t even know where to start. What was supposed to be a two-week stay turned into three weeks because leaving was far more difficult than I ever expected. This place is so much more than an animal shelter. It becomes a home, a community, and a place that stays with you long after you leave. Of course, volunteering here means hard work. But every bit of work feels meaningful because you can see the difference it makes in the lives of these dogs. One of the most special parts of my stay was my deep connection with Smokey. She completely stole my heart. Saying goodbye to her was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Please take extra good care of my sweet Smokey ❤️. There were also so many unforgettable moments. One day, I went on a hike to Laguna 513 with two other volunteers, and each of us was allowed to bring a dog. Watching them experience this adventure was something I will never forget. The weekly pizza nights brought everyone together and made us feel like a little family. We shared stories, laughs, and memories. We were also allowed to use the pool at Samana Lodge once a week, which was such a gift after long workdays. What truly makes it special are the people behind it. Kishor and Jessica are some of the kindest, most genuine people I have met while traveling. The love and dedication they put into every single dog is inspiring. This is truly their life’s mission. So when I left after three weeks, I didn’t just leave a place. I left with friendships, memories, and a piece of my heart that will always stay here. Thank you to everyone there and of course all the dogs for this unforgettable experience. I already miss you more than words can say!

I had a wonderful time here whilst visiting Sydney - I was only with Anna-Klara for just over a week but would've loved to stay longer if I could! From the moment I walked in I received a very warm welcome & was super comfortable the entire time. There's a nice laid back environment in the house which makes you feel right at home. The room was lovely & location was ideal. Easy public transport - plus the tasks were very fair. I'd 100% recommend.

Jana and Christian were simply fantastic Workawayers! We gave them several challenging tasks and they not only completed them successfully, but also brought their own creative ideas and initiative to every project. The final results exceeded all our expectations and turned out far better than we had ever hoped for. Christian has outstanding practical and technical skills and seems capable of building, repairing, or improving just about anything. Whatever task came up, he approached it with confidence, independence, and great attention to detail. His positive attitude and easy-going nature made it a pleasure to have him here. Jana is one of the kindest and most wonderful people you could ever hope to meet. Together with Christian, she worked on our fence and awning, and she also did some painting with impressive precision and care. Her positive attitude and warm personality made every day a pleasure. One very special highlight was the baking course Jana gave me. We spent a wonderfully cozy time together, learned new skills, and enjoyed some absolutely delicious cakes. The work was excellent, but what made their stay truly special was the time we spent together. We enjoyed many interesting conversations, lots of laughter, and even some games in the evenings. The week passed far too quickly because we were having such a great time. The good news is that Jana and Christian are already planning to come back, and we couldn't be happier about it. We are genuinely looking forward to seeing them again. To our fellow hosts: if you are lucky enough to receive a request from Jana and Christian, don't hesitate for a second. You simply won't find better Workawayers. They are hardworking, skilled, creative, reliable, and wonderful company to have around. They arrived as strangers and left as friends. Along the way, they gave us an incredible amount of help and contributed so much more than we ever expected. We give Jana and Christian our highest possible recommendation and are grateful for every moment we shared with them.

Nous avons passé un excellent volontariat chez Erick à Ecolodge. L'endroit est très agréable, calme et entouré d'une nature magnifique. La région est superbe et offre de nombreuses possibilités de découvertes et d'activités. Les missions sont variées, ce qui permet de ne jamais s'ennuyer et d'apprendre différentes choses. Erick est également très arrangeant concernant l'organisation des jours de travail et reste à l'écoute des volontaires. Nous recommandons vivement ce volontariat à toute personne souhaitant découvrir la région tout en vivant une belle expérience humaine. Et pour les amoureux des animaux, il y a plusieurs chats et chiens adorables qui rendent le séjour encore plus agréable !

Yogendra, Anita, and their children welcomed us into their home with such warmth and kindness that we immediately felt like part of the family. The double room overlooking one of Bhaktapur’s streets is simply magical! The rooftop terrace is also beautiful, offering stunning views of the mountains and the rooftops of Bhaktapur. I highly recommend Bhaktapur over Kathmandu for anyone looking for a more intimate and peaceful experience, as well as a city with a truly beautiful historic center. Our volunteering experience was also very immersive. We spent most of our time at Dandapati Basic School in Changunarayan Municipality, and if they are accepting volunteers, I strongly recommend asking to volunteer there. You will find incredibly kind teachers who will welcome you with open arms, as well as the principal, Bisnu. The school gives you the opportunity to lead your own lessons independently, with the teachers helping when translation is needed. We brought several educational games from home, which we donated to the school, and each day we prepared and delivered lessons for the students. At the end of our stay, thanks to a fundraising effort and Yogendra’s guidance, we were also able to donate various useful materials to several educational facilities. I had a wonderful 15 days at Bud and Carol’s home. They are both incredibly kind and invited me to join them in all sorts of fun daily activities. The area is beautiful and there is so much to do. In terms of work, I did a variety of indoor and outdoor tasks and it was pretty fun! I felt completely at home there and was sad to leave them both (and the doggies). Highly recommend!

Spending three months here was one of the highlights of my travels. I arrived as a volunteer and left feeling like a friend. I learned a lot, met amazing people, and experienced a lifestyle that I will remember for a long time. The host created a welcoming atmosphere where everyone felt valued and respected. I am grateful for all the conversations, experiences, and opportunities to grow. Thank you for opening your home and sharing your project with me. I highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for a genuine cultural exchange and a meaningful Workaway stay.

I was really pleased to have Doris staying with me, she was very keen to help and get all the jobs done! She helped with cleaning, washed the windows, weeded the garden and cooked a delicious dinner for me! I am happy to recommend her to the other hosts! Thank you Doris, enjoy your next adventure!

Staying on Julien's farm by Najac was an absolutely amazing experience! I can genuinely say this will be something I remember for the rest of my life! The farm is beautiful, the area stunning, and the work was always straighforward and never anything surprising! Julien always commincated clearly and of course politely as well! The work was genuinely so fun to do! He is super cool and a truly great human being as well. I cannot reccommend this place enough if you are someone that enjoys the countryside, farm activities, and a slower more relaxed pace of life! Also, the food during the stay and in-around the area was as one may expect, absolutely incroyable! And to top it all off, Monsieur Raoul (le chat de la ferme), is literally one of the most amazings cats, if not the most amazing kitty cats in the world. No word of a lie, that cat is legit impressive and so so cuddly. Words cannot describe, you just have to meet the cat himself!! So thank you Messieurs Julien et Raoul (as well as all the goats :)) for a wonderful experience, the great hospitality, and of course, the fantastic food and wine. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Monclar-de-Quercy with Paul and Yvonne! Days were well planned with plenty of breaks, good food and lots of lively conversation and humour around the dinner table. The room was beautiful and clean, and we had lots of our own privacy and down time. The animals were a great part of our experience - we enjoyed feeding them each morning as we walked the dogs. Overall an AWESOME experience, we hope to keep in touch in the future :)

The exchange with Martina was excellent and it was a pleasure to host her and show her around some parts of the island. Martina is a genuinely warm, caring and generous person. She showed strong organisational skills and excelled herself in cooking really tasty food, including some of her nonna's recipes, and was willing to help with a range of other tasks in and around the home. We had lots of fun playing various card and board games, many of which were traditional Italian games that Martina shared with us. In summary, you can regard Martina as a top-level human being and Workawayer!

Una suerte de saber que existe persona como el El voluntario de Hernan fue una muy buena experiencia, se quedo 4 semanas con mi familia y fue un gusto de compartir los desayunos y almuerzo con el. Hernan cumplo con todo las tareas del surfcamp de la mejor manera, persona responsable, honesta y trabajadora. Mis aparte les gusta dibujar y tocar musica y compartir sus talentos. Gracias

I had a very nice experience at this amazing community. The place is very beautiful, with nice nature, and you feel a sense of peace there. I was lucky with the timing because I arrived just when the festival was starting, so I helped a bit with the preparations, and sometimes with cooking and gardening. The work was easy and felt very comfortable. The accommodation was comfortable and clean. I met so many interesting people. Jack and the others were very kind and easy to talk to about any topic, and they have an interesting project. We had the chance, with the other Workawayers, to visit another farm, have a nice sauna evening, a nice hike, yoga, movie time, and some games. I definitely recommend this place. Thanks again for this great experience, and see you again at the next festivals :D

I spent 3 weeks here and honestly loved every minute of it. I was genuinely sad when it was time to leave, and I'm already thinking about coming back in the future. This isn't a Workaway where you're simply cuddling cats all day. The work is real, and the cats depend on it. That said, I found it incredibly rewarding. It feels good to know that your time and effort are contributing to an organisation that genuinely makes a difference in the lives of so many animals. The shelter itself is beautiful, and Gillian is one of the kindest and most caring people I've met. It's clear how much love and dedication she puts into the project, and it was inspiring to see everything that has been built there. The Egyptian colleagues were also amazing. From the moment I arrived, everyone was welcoming and helpful. Ahmed made sure I was settled in, and Goma took us to a Bedouin event in the desert with food, music, and dancing, which became one of my favourite memories from my time in Dahab. One of the biggest highlights was living with the other volunteers. We quickly became close and created a lovely little community. Sharing meals, stories, and daily life made the experience even more special. When I left, the other volunteers gave me a small gift, which was such a thoughtful gesture and made saying goodbye even harder. I miss them already. As someone who loves animals, being surrounded by cats every day was a dream. I learned a lot during my stay, including how to care for and feed kittens. Getting to know the cats and helping with their daily care was one of the most rewarding parts of the experience. Dahab itself is a wonderful place to spend time. It's relaxed, welcoming, and has a unique atmosphere. As a woman, I always felt comfortable and safe there. Outside of volunteering, I spent time snorkeling, went diving, and visited Ras Abu Galum, which was absolutely stunning. This Workaway gave me so much more than I expected: unforgettable experiences, meaningful connections, and lots of happy memories. If you're looking for a meaningful volunteering experience and don't mind putting in the work, I can't recommend it enough. Thank you, Gillian, the team, the volunteers, and of course all the cats ❤️

We spent 8 weeks at Clare and Martyn’s place, and would have stayed longer if we had the time! Their rescue farm in Callanish is a very special place full of animals of so many different breeds and surely with unique personalities. We had a daily routine of taking care of the animals and their dwellings and then helping out in the café if needed from Wednesday to Sunday. We learned so much! From medicating alpacas and pigs to seeing how animal ultrasound is used. We also got the chance to explore the island and its beaches and meet the other workawayers and islanders who are absolutely amazing and kind people. Clare is very generous, knowledgeable and kind person with whom we felt very comfortable right from the start. We have never met anyone with such passion and love for their animals (and wild ducklings) as Martyn before! Thank you for everything! We had the best time and definitely hope to come back one day!

I couldn't have wished for a better first Workaway experience! I spent 16 wonderful days with Markus and Helga at their farm by the sea. Their home is nestled in a peaceful, secluded setting surrounded by a vast property. They are truly remarkable people, kind, thoughtful, and incredibly empathetic. From the very beginning they made me feel welcome and at home. I stayed in a cozy little cottage that had everything I needed while still having free access to the main house whenever necessary. I was also able to enjoy the different saunas, the swimming pool, and of course the beautiful garden and surrounding nature. The property itself is full of charm. Both the house and the garden are dotted with handmade artistic creations and small constructions that feel like hidden Easter eggs waiting to be discovered. Every corner reveals something unique, giving the place a warm personality and a magical atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable throughout your stay. The workdays averaged between 4 and 5 hours per day and were mainly focused on gardening and outdoor maintenance. We worked on setting up vegetable/growing boxes, moving structures, repotting plants, preparing planting areas, and organizing the garden. Other tasks included cutting wood, mowing the lawn, removing weeds, and filling the boxes with compost and different fertilizers. We also enjoyed a few frisbee sessions with their lovely dog Omega who was always happy to join in :D Another project involved renovating the outdoor area of the chicken coop. We repaired and improved the space so that the chickens could safely enjoy the return of the sunny season. One of the highlights of my stay was opening sea urchin season by spending an afternoon harvesting them directly from the sea. The water was definitely cold at first… but you get used to it surprisingly quickly! And it turned into a fantastic experience. It had been a very long time since I had eaten so well! Helga's meals were absolutely delicious, and her homemade cakes provided plenty of motivation and energy for the workdays haha. I still find myself thinking about her incredible fish soup… it was honestly unforgettable!!! Everything about this experience was wonderful. I would be delighted to come back one day, both to lend a hand and to spend more time with Markus, Helga and their family while enjoying the stunning landscape surrounding their home. Until then I can only wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone considering it. You will be welcomed into a beautiful place by genuinely wonderful people, and you'll leave with great memories :)

I was so lucky; I had quite a big videoproject (and I don't know much about it) and there comes Sebastian... it was his job back in Australia... gosh what a great help. And overall he is very practical and willing to do many different things. Sarah needed some rest but I am convinced that she is more than handy and has a lovely and good attitude. Very nice couple :))

It was an absolute delight to have Adam volunteering with us recently for a month. He has boundless energy to the point that he was keen to help out for far longer than the allotted 5 hours, 5 days a week. He particularly thrived on being given a specific task which he'd always complete with a smiling face! His love of animals was apparent from the first moment he arrived and met the house chickens...despite a rough ferry crossing! His knowledge of birds is encyclopaedic and he taught us such a lot. He was delighted to see his first golden eagles, sea eagles and several merlins in real life. Adam is one of the nicest and most genuine people that you could ever meet. It says a lot that the Workawayers who were here at the same time as him told us that he was their favourite ever Workawayer to work and live alongside. Good luck with all your future adventures Adam. We miss you!
