We really enjoyed having Leonie and it was hard to say goodbye. Although it was a big busy week she fitted in, pitched in and was soon just part of the rhythm here. Always helpful, asking great questions and just keen to get amongst it.

I was greeted to my first workaway experience and my most anticipated destination of Hawaii by Dottie and Tim. After landing to KOA airport, stormy weather aftermath has made bus schedule not to run properly, and difficulty to reach Hilo, immediately showed I came to a very caring and supportive host family. After managing to catch off-schedule bus to Hilo, Tim picked me up at 2AM. Part of the house you live in there is a great thought put about the things you might need and to give you good experience (my first day impression was, wow! they're really professional about it haha). I was hosted smoothly and by very easy going people, work wasn't mundane at all, and I've had variety of it, not a single day made me feel tired. I'm super thankful for all the good company that we've shared, the insights about the island that I've received, all the incredible places that I've managed to visit, and the opportunity to be hosted on the Big Island by these people that were super kind to me. Highly recommend! Mahalo.

Quentin volunteered with us during Carnival and was a great addition to the team. He was punctual, responsible, and consistently reliable with his tasks, even during very busy days. He maintained a positive attitude, worked well with others, and helped create a smooth and friendly atmosphere in the hostel. We really appreciate his contribution and would gladly recommend him for future opportunities.

My experience here with Jo and Jake has been simply great! Their property is surrounded by the beauty of the Alpujarras mountains and lots of nature, the house is quite simple but cozy and with a beautiful and big garden. The lunches prepared by Jo during the week were absolutely generous and delicious, while for the dinner and the weekend you are free to cook yourself, mostly vegetables. The work i ve been doing was mostly cutting the wood, but also collecting leaves, working on the compost, watering plants and other various tasks around the house. I had also the luck to share my experience with Annika, Abbie and Allie, other workawayers who were there during my stay, thank you girls for all the great moments spent together! Moreover I had the chance to meet many friends of Jo and Jake who sometimes came to visit them for a chat or a dinner all together. During my stay I also visited some beautiful places around Orgiva simply reachable by bus. Orgiva itself is half an hour walk from the house and right there you can find different shops, supermarket and many bars where you can have a beer with a tapas! I really hope to come back here one day and see all the progress made by the other workawayers and meet you guys again. Hasta pronto 😊

It was wonderful to have Vira stay with us for 1.5 months as housesitter during the period of the villa closing. Her interest in art offer opportunity to have a lot of interesting conversations. She was very helpful and always willing to help. Her tasks included gardening in the park and supervision of the villa entrances. Thank you Vira for all your help. We would recommend Vira to everyone.

I am grateful that I was able to put together a 2 week experience i n Tafo with these inspiring projects. It was a very positive and collaborative experience from first conversation with Rory to final goodbyes with Eric. The projects certainly delivered their claims to being "highly impactful and fun" and I felt at home the minute I connected with my host. I'm a lifelong volunteer who also hosts work traders at home so I have a depth of understanding in the "exchange". I felt trusted, supported and encouraged and gave me freedom to navigate. I was comfortable with the room and proximity to other team members and looked forward to the often several times a day 15 minute walk even in the 90 degree temps. At times I wished there were more structure and follow through on the planned activities to see the area, but the village itself offered me all the spontaneous play with kids (of all ages :)) and learning/teaching opportunities as I just walked and explored. It was perfect! I felt that I was able to make a big impact even though time was short and that it was appreciated. I participated in classroom support, helped with homework in the evening, created connections with village families around arts and crafts and started many conversations that helped me learn about the people. I enjoyed attending an Evangelical Christian church service twice and learning about celebrations around Ramadan which ended while I was there. I was grateful to Diana who cooked for everyone in a small very rustic kitchen and made me delicious gluten free meals. I wished that the meals were more inclusive of the staff and kids living at the hostel but also enjoyed the quiet time before getting into the "heat" of the day. The young men at the hostel/football academy were vibrant, expressive and receptive to connecting with me around academics and some games/crafts I brought. I supported a first and ran a second Girls' Club meeting and enjoyed engaging the young women in activities to help them learn more about themselves and set goals. Yes, my time was too short but the days were full and varied and I was completely recharged like I had hoped. I am left yearning for another visit. Thank you, Eric and Albert for your wonderful collaboration, support and authentic spirits of making a difference. I will be sharing my stories for years to come. I look forward to following your progress. Thanks for graciously hosting me! Cary

What an amazing experience it was being in such a unique village! The location in the beautiful mountains of Fiscal was exceptional, making you go "woah" at least once a day. I feel really lucky that my first workaway got to be in Puyuelo. The work was a lot of fun, about four hours a day with a short break in the middle and the weekends off. The work varied a lot from day to day, so there was always something to learn: We built stairs with stones from the valley, chopped down trees and wood, debarked wood for a woodshed, and did gardening, planting potatoes and onions. Most work was outside and physical, but if you had any issues, they were more than happy to give you a break, another less physical task, or just letting you take the rest of the day off. Being a community, there's really space for you and your ideas, your habits and personality - whether you are an introvert or extrovert person, you'll feel most welcome right from the start. It is a unique chance to gain insight into a collective lifestyle with a really friendly group, working together and using natural recourses sustainably. Communicating with them is therefore easy since you live close together in the village, and there's also a meeting every Sunday to talk about how you're doing, and if you need anything. I stayed from mid-March to mid April together with one other workawayer. I had my own house, the Hereria (the old blacksmith), which had a big stove to keep me warm during the cold nights, as well as a kitchen area, which Aidan (the other workawayer) and I used for breakfast in the morning. Around 2 pm, everyone had lunch together in the common house - really well made vegetarian food with some homemade ingredients. Dinner was mostly just with the other workawayer, so it was great to have someone to hang out with, and I'd definitely recommend staying with other workawayers. The area had so much to offer from hiking to mountain views, bathing in natural pools in the river, and birdwatching in the mountains. You could also explore other communities/villages in the area and meet great people there. If you didn't feel like doing anything after work, you could always enjoy the atmosphere in the village. They also hosted a fantastic spring celebration where people from all over the valley came together to celebrate spring. Even just talking over a beer after work gave so much to the experience. I never thought I would leave feeling so inspired and with a different perspective on things.

Jejeje Abrazo Grande ✌️🌈

It was wonderful to have Huan stay with us. I really enjoyed how much positivity she brought into our lives. It was inspiring to me to see her focus on her practice of yoga and to see how much she enjoyed the pleasure of discovering the nature here. She was also very keen to get to know us and to understand the culture. I trust that this was quite a profound experience for her and we were very grateful too.

Our stay with Aleksander was great, and met the expectations that he set beforehand. We enjoyed his beautiful property and stunning view of the river and valley. The work was physical (preparing leaves and branches for compost) and it was great to be outside all day in the beautiful sunshine. Alex cooked us great, healthy lunches and we really enjoyed eggs from his chickens. Thanks for having us!

I had a great time staying with Diogo! Coming from a permaculture and natural building background, I really enjoyed getting hands-on in a different way: fixing things, building a bench, drilling, painting… it was super satisfying to realize I can now handle so many things myself back home. The work mainly involved preparing apartments for the summer season: painting, organizing, decorating, taking care of the garden — and overall it felt quite relaxed and self-managed, which I really appreciated. There was always plenty of time to enjoy life as well: surfing, long walks, cruising around by bike (from Diogo), or simply chilling. One of my favorite parts was the shared daily life. We took turns cooking, went shopping together, and created some seriously delicious meals. Evenings were often filled with great conversations, games, movies, or the occasional drink out. Diogo was also open to practicing yoga together, which I truly valued. As a host, Diogo has a really energetic energy. And even with a lot on his plate, he stayed funny, kind, and genuinely present. He always had an open ear in the evenings for deeper conversations, which made the experience feel very human and connected. I especially loved his eye for both the big picture and the tiny details. like little “hello sunshine” signs catching the morning light, a whole apartment built from pallets, or his own hand-picked and dried tea. Those touches made everything feel unique and cared for. The accommodation was also super comfortable, having my own room and space to recharge made a big difference. If I could add one gentle thought: there’s a lot of potential to make the project and apartments even more sustainable, which would beautifully match the creativity already present. All in all, a truly enhancing experience with a great host!

My stay at Guillaume and Frédérique place was fabulous: they were very kind and friendly, sharing their company during meals and aperitifs, helping me improve my french. They have a big family and everyone, from sons to nephews, is very polite and sociable. The work was easy and relaxing: wether it was cleaning, ironing, watering garden or helping in the kitchen, I never felt unease or tensions interacting with the hosts. The ambience was generally very pleasant and stimulating. Would definitely recommend!

I had a wonderful experience staying with Libby and Mark for four months. From the very beginning, they made me feel truly welcome and at home. The work was light, enjoyable, and varied. I took care of Luna (their lovely dog) and the cats while they were away, helped with their house move, and also supported Libby with her social media. They were incredibly kind, supportive, and always willing to help whenever I needed anything. Libby often brought me healthy food, which I really appreciated. I also had my own private space — a separate little “casita” where I could sleep and cook, which gave me a great balance between independence and connection. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I’m really grateful to have met them both.

Kerstin and Andreas make it very hard not to fall in love with this beautiful place an of course the people. We stayed here for two weeks and even helped build the pizza oven—so to all future Workawayers: you’ll definitely enjoy using it! Everything felt very harmonious from the start, and we never once felt unwelcome. On the contrary, we shared lots of laughs and spent great time together, both working, eating and exploring. The house is very well maintained and absolutely lovely. The room for Workawayers is charming and well equipped. There’s even a small desk, which was perfectly sufficient for getting our own laptop work done. The surrounding landscape is stunning—you could easily spend 2–3 days just exploring the vast property. There’s also a small, crystal-clear stream running through it, perfect for cooling off. In the nearby area, you’ll find beautiful little towns where time seems to stand still. Within walking distance, there are cold springs that form gorgeous natural limestone pools, ideal for a refreshing dip. And just a 20-minute drive away, there are thermal springs. We owe all of these amazing tips to Kerstin, and we’re incredibly grateful for the chance to explore this wonderful landscape—the wild heart of Umbria in the center of Italy.
