Julian is a young (and of course VERY tall) Dutch guy with a passion for bicycle (duh!), chocolate (ta-da!), and mountains (obviously!). We made sure the man passed his 18th birthday before he came over, which is did, and then we set about getting him into the rhythm of our tasks. Julian is very friendly, great with cats, very happy to help, polite and disciplined. He always wanted to help, in whatever task, and was curious about all the other helpers we had from various places (and ages). As his mama one said: as long as there is Hooligans and chocolate, things are OK. And she is right! By the way, "hooligans" is Julian's go-to cry, when happy, challenged, or just bursting with energy. He was also a great tester of jams, various cooking experiments and lots and lots of croissants..... We had lots of fun with Julian, and we are very grateful for his help! Come back soon!!!! Dear Laura and Maurizio, Thank you for welcoming me into your home and making me feel comfortable from the start. I really appreciated sharing daily life, family traditions, and the Christmas period with you. It was great getting to know Cristian and Asia — they are incredibly smart and curious which made them a pleasure to teach guided by their own interests . I enjoyed playing with them and seeing where their imagination took us .The daily instructions were always very clear, and I appreciated having good balance and free time as well. Thank you to Maurizio and Laura’s mum for the amazing food — it was truly one of the highlights of my stay. I also loved being in the countryside; as someone from a big city, I found the peaceful environment very refreshing. Thank you again for the experience and your hospitality.

Pellin was a very — kind, respectful, and helpful. She supported us with cooking and house tasks with a great attitude and good energy. We really enjoyed hosting her and we’re happy our place was a nice stop on her journey around the world. Highly recommended!

I stayed one and a half months on this busy animal rescue farm, and after having stayed that long, I have to say that I would come back and do it again. The start is quite hard for almost everyone here, so be prepared to immediately step into a loud and full space without a second to prepare. But if you power through the first few days, you'll really start to like everything!! The accommodation isn't the best for the number of volunteers, but it's definitely manageable, and the managers are always kind and open to any kind of feedback or concerns you may have, so never hesitate to go to one of them (thanks to Claire for rescuing my phone after I left it on a bus to Dublin)! The work is hard, but with all the animals, I really enjoyed it, and for me it was pure heaven to spend most of my time with the dogs. I never would have guessed that I would fall in love with the dogs so quickly (If I could have, I would have taken Katie home with me :)) and hope to return to them someday! Most of the areas you get assigned to will just include shoveling shit and cleaning out stables, and in the dog area you will get to walk the dogs or sometimes clean their kennels or feed them, depending on how long you're staying. The whole team is very friendly, and I was so amazed to hear all about the different stories about the rescues they had to do! Sometimes it can be very hard to integrate into the group fully because there are so many returning volunteers that all know each other, but don't get discouraged if it doesn't quite work fully the first few days; it'll get better!! All in all, if you love animals and can handle some physical work, you'll love this place!

Luis and I stayed 1,5 month (Nov-Dec) at Debbie's beautiful piece of land, with many orange and olive trees, located 10min walk from Orgiva and all shops. Our accommodation was the cosy and pretty yourt, which got warm quickly once we'd put the gas heater on in the evening. As it was winter time, the cocinita was very cold in the morning and evening, but definitely very well equipped, handy and clean. On sunny days, we could have lunch outside and sometimes shared meals and barbecue with Debbie and /or Vicente, who are very good cooks indeed. We had the opportunity to go to events with them, meet some of their friends and we also had a very interesting ceramic class with Vicente. We fixed a few things around but overall, our daily main task was to walk Dante, the funny and crazy "crocodile" doggy, which was easy for us, since we have a dog who enjoys walks too. Dante is playful and young but very attaching and he is obedient during the walks. We do miss him a lot and will never forget the good time and laughs, we and our perrita shared with him. Comparatively, Suso (the cat) was quite shy and not very demanding, but he is a character too. During our stay, we also shared the work of olive harvest, which lasted 1 week. It was all new to us and a very interesting experience. Especially when you get the chance to share and taste all together the (your !) olive oil at the end as a reward, it's just divine ! Finally, although we thought at the beginning we'd quickly get bored for trekking, we discovered the surroundings of Orgiva offer quite a diversity of little tracks for walks and cycle-rides (with good slopes !). We are very thankful to Debbie, Vicente, Dante and Suso for these shared moments of laughs and friendliness :-)

Becky has been an absolute delight to host (so much so that we happily welcomed her back for a second visit). She is kind, tidy, playful, and always curious to learn more. We feel very confident in her taking our kids out on adventures like surfing and bike riding - her ski teaching experiences gives her great level headedness in dealing with multiple kids in the outdoors! I think Becky would be very helpful at any tasks she took on. We will miss her when she is gone again.

Dan stayed with us for few months, he did a lot of house sitting for us, and was taking care of our cats and chickens when we were not home :) He is calm and joyful about everything, always smiling 😊 We all loved him, the kids loved him and the pets. Dan is very tidy person, he lived with us downstairs and it was always very clean. Thank you for all your help and we hope you are loving the city of Iceland 🎉♥️

I spent about 1,5 months at the farm and honestly, they flew by a lot faster than I first expected. Having never really worked with horses/big animals before, I was a little nervous at first but this quickly subsided thanks to the many kind people there that were always patient with my hundreds of questions. The work is physically demanding but if you make sure to eat enough, it’s definitely doable (and gains you some muscle - big plus for me:D). There was always plenty of food and we shared some delicious meals (Claire’s an amazing cook). On my days off, I got to visit beautiful places such as Howth and Dublin. If you’re looking to meet new people, this is the place to go. There were always so many people from all over the world - I made some really good friends here that I miss greatly. This includes the animals; you really get used to being greeted by loving dogs each morning and now that I’ve left, it feels as though something’s missing. I miss them a lot. Not to forget the wonderful, peaceful Christmas I spent here. There are truly so many experiences I made at the farm - from cleaning stables to cooking to learning new card games, everything’s included! Thank you guys tons for having me.<3 I hope I’ll be back some day!!

We enjoyed our stay in Forest Camping very much, we will remember it for a long time for sure. The main staff (Aleš, Gašper, Dušan, Andrij, Vid) - they are all intriguing individuals with strong characters and opinions and we had a lot of interesting discussions with them, a lot of learning through stories and sharing knowledge, and a lot of fun. We found them kindhearted and generous. Thank you all for the steklarna, kajmak, the talks, the food, caring for us, figs, jokes, challenges, trust, Janja, board and card games. About the work itself: we arrived in September and it was apparently lower than usually season. We mainly cleaned the toilets' and showers' areas, especially during rain but it was not too much work (as there was less people). In certain shifts we would also prepare cabins and tents for guests. Once or twice a shift check common areas like the kitchen and kids' playground and sometimes also clean the kitchen for the staff. At some point we also put in order new fire wood that arrived and between shifts we split some logs for our own fireplace. Even though the job itself was repeatable and sometimes could seem monotonous - we knew about it and we didn't have problem to find our own way to use the time (like cleaning the walls of bathrooms or other places more thoroughly). In our free time we were encouraged to take bikes (even the fancy ones!) and go off on adventures. We've learned from them about mushroom foraging, wood splitting, sports, politics and social issues, as well as just the art of conversation. ;) They shared willingly their stories and insight into the slovenian culture which we appreciated greatly. Long live THE pumpkin seed oil! We also want to thank all the workawayers that we've met there: Tania, Franco, Luna, Marilena, Erin and Aldo (if you see their names somewhere in the comments section we highly recommend them - as coworkers and friends). Thank you for your beautiful characters and interesting stories, and for the time we've spent together. <3

I had a really great experience at this place in Christmas time. The place was way over my expectations in terms of look and vibe. The nature was so peaceful and the people very nice to talk to and hang out with. The volunteer work was more than fair and I would be happy to go back anytime. I haven't done any English teaching but if I go back I would really like to do some! There's a positive vibe around the place that really make it feel like a refuge. Thank you for this opportunity!

Kirsty’s love of animals was both refreshing and often entertaining as she attempted to befriend just about every creature in the forest; a regular Snow White. Whether helping with the garden and greenhouse, cooking shared meals, or tackling construction and outdoor projects, they worked well as a team and with my family. They showed initiative, common sense, and a willingness to take on tasks without needing constant direction, which was greatly appreciated. Having independent and trustworthy guests was a priority in our selection process, given the remote nature of our property and the fact that they were often on their own. Kirsty and Paul were perfectly suited to this environment, and we never once felt uneasy leaving them. We wish them all the best on their future travels and would welcome them back anytime. We truly hope our paths cross again.

I really enjoyed my stay at Taibara. The food was delicious, accomodation was confortable and mostly, the people were super kind :). I had the privilege to help Darien with the construction of a building were I learned a lot of stuff that will probably help me in the futur. Also, I was invited to spend new years eve with them, which was a very nice immersion into their community. Thank you Darien, Liumira and everyone for this opportunity! :)

Julia and Sebastian were an absolute pleasure to host for and are now considered our friends who we would feel so blessed to see again in the future. They stayed with us for five weeks over Christmas and felt like part of the family during that time. They exceeded expectations and went above and beyond with all the projects we had and household chores. Julia made us the most delicious foods and we are so grateful for the cultural experiences. Our kids loved interacting with them and are missing them already. They were up for any task and completed them fast but also perfectly. Sebastian even fixed our irrigation system that we thought was broken and about to remove as he is very skilled with tools and maintenance. We would welcome them back in our home with open arms again any day. Very respectful and very tidy with housekeeping. Thank you Julia and Sebastian, we wish you all the best for your travels and future plans. Can’t wait to come visit you one day.

I stayed here for one month and it flew by. These are two truly happy people. (I originally found this place on Helpx where they have many good reviews) I enjoyed so many laughs, talks and dancing in the kitchen with both of them. We ate a LOT of really delicious food cooked by all three of us. They shared with me their culture in many ways. Sometimes it was unclear how much work was expected of me. But there is always some way you can help out and they were always happy with what was done that day. I did A LOT of dishes, cleaning and gardening but you can also choose to help clear the land which i really enjoyed doing. I had my afternoons off and i was given a lot of days off to do local activities such as skydiving, and visiting cuamahilpa caves etc They have work clothes which you can borrow. And a lot of good knowledge to share. I can definitely say i now have family in Mexico:)

Lindo lugar...Linda gente...Lindos animales. Fuimos durante 6 semanas, mi compañera Edwige, nuestra perrita Lokiz, y yo Luis, en Orgiva, cerca del Río Seco, en el lugar de Debbie y Vicente. El gato Suso, es controlador discreto de la casita. El perro Dante, adolescente juguetón, fue un gran compañero para nuestra perra y nosotros. Siempre dispuesto a darle un cambio a cualquier zapato desordenado que pudiera encontrar. Estancia en una hermosa yurta con calefacción de gas, y una cocinita bastante fría en invierno cuando se esconde el sol, pero super bien equipada. Una de las semanas fue dedicada a cosechar olivas, y pudimos tener suerte de probar el aceite resultando de nuestro trabajo. Nueva y grande experiencia para nosotros. Todos los días haciamos largas caminatas con los perros, hacia el río Guadalfeo o el Cerro Negro. Debbie, que divide su tiempo entre Orgiva e Irlanda, es una chica muy alegre y preocupada de nuestra comodidad. Vicente, maestro pedagogo y muy amable, nos permitió descubrir y prácticar cerámica en su taller. Es también maestro de asado y cocinero de categoría, por los algunos almuerzos que compartimos. Extrañamos mucho este lugar rodeado de naranjos y sus habitantes. Lokiz también extraña mucho a Dante. Maravillosa experiencia para nosotros.
