Hello!

My name is Yuri, and I am from Japan. I recently graduated from university, where I studied Media and Communications, and I am now taking a gap year before starting work. During this time, I would love to travel, meet new people, and contribute to local projects 🌍🧳

Although I am from Japan, I have been fortunate to spend four years living in the United States and one year studying in Australia. I also studied Spanish at university because many of my friends in the U.S. spoke it (I am still a beginner, but I would love to practice more!). Through these experiences, I am now able to speak English fluently, and I discovered how much I enjoy connecting with people from different cultures. I believe every conversation and shared meal is a chance to learn something new.

A little about me 💌：

I enjoy creative projects such as making documentaries and exploring media ideas. I’ve also done internships where I helped with social media and SEO marketing, but what I enjoy most is learning new things and being part of a team.

I have been playing lacrosse, so I am pretty tough!🥍 I also like watching sports such as soccer and many others⚽️ it’s always exciting to share the atmosphere with people.☺️

In my free time, I love crochet, reading, exploring new places, and of course trying local food. Simple things like cooking together or sharing stories over a meal make me really happy.📚🧶🥘❤️

Friends often describe me as bubbly, caring, kind, reliable, and curious. I always try to approach new situations with a smile and an open mind.

What excites me most about Workaway is the chance to experience daily life in different communities—not only as a traveler, but as someone who can be part of it, even for a short time. I hope to support your project while also creating warm memories together.

Teaching & tutoring 📚✏️

I have experience teaching both English and Japanese writing to high school students in Japan as a tutor at a cram school.
While in Australia, I joined a language exchange club where I taught Japanese for one year.
For four years, I worked at Kumon, teaching elementary students easy math and English.
I also often helped my younger sister (now in high school) with many subjects, almost like her personal tutor. Teaching and helping kids has always been a big part of my life.

Childcare

I worked as a babysitter for one year as a part-time job, and I really love spending time with children.
I am patient, caring, and always try to make learning or playtime fun.

Cooking🍳

I enjoy cooking, especially Japanese food. My favorite dish to make is oyakodon (a chicken and egg rice bowl), but I can prepare other Japanese meals too.
I like cooking for others and sharing meals together—it’s one of the simplest joys in life.

Creative projects😃

I love photography, as well as making and editing videos. I even did an internship in this field, so I would be happy to help with creative projects and can show you some of my work.
I enjoy design as well! I once made a guidebook for my cram school on Canva, and it was bought by over 100 people! Experiences like that made me realize I’m quite creative and resourceful.

Volunteering🌱🌳

At university, I was part of an officially recognized student organization of Habitat for Humanity, which supports international build programs like the Global Village Program.
With this group, I joined a trip to Tōhoku (a region in Japan once devastated by the 3.11 earthquake) to help build houses for families in need. It was a very meaningful experience that taught me the importance of teamwork, community, and resilience.
I also volunteered with a food delivery organization, helping to provide meals to people who needed support. These experiences made me realize how much I enjoy contributing to something larger than myself.

I’ve recently been crocheting cute little purses for my friends and family :)
My favorite board game is Monopoly , but I also love simple card games or anything that brings people together for laughs. I also play the piano, ukulele, and saxophone, and I enjoy sharing music :))
