Description
Hi, I'm Theo from the gorgeous valleys of West Yorkshire in England! I have recently graduated from the University of Leeds and I'm looking to do some travelling and working in New Zealand this year as I'd love to explore the world!
I am very creative and a lover of nature. Growing up in the countryside meant that I've spent my childhood clambering about in the woods and going on walking holidays with my family. My family is also very creative and I have always been surrounded by art and music so I have a very caring and creative approach to everything I do! I have some experience building and woodworking whilst volunteering as a set builder for my university theatre. I love to paint and am currently working on a big mural in my bedroom! I have always enjoyed making and altering my own clothes as it’s a fun creative outlet as well as being more conscious and sustainable. My current joy is knitting!
I have an amateur camera and enjoy taking photographs and videos of landscapes and wildlife (especially birds!) and would love to document my experiences with workaway. I also love to read and write and plan to hopefully write a blog while I'm travelling.
I have recently started learning everything there is to know about nature restoration whilst volunteering with a youth rewilding group in the UK. I have been learning surveying and identification skills and have had lots of fun doing practical, hands-on jobs out in the wilderness.
I have always been very passionate about reading and learning. My recent work for my degree in Cultural and Media studies has strengthened my interests in art, history and heritage, as well as sparking a fascination for the variety of different and vibrant cultures around the world. My final year dissertation focused on current internet trends of slow-living and environmentally-conscious self sufficiency. I am also very interested in the benefits traditional crafts such as building, gardening, and fiber arts can have towards helping the environment as well as community and personal fulfilment. I would love to learn more about the art and culture in Aotearoa!
I also have plenty of experience working in hospitality, so I make a great coffee, pour a great pint, and love chatting with all types of customers!
I am really excited to see new places and learn new practical skills through workaway. I am a very fast and intuitive learner and I relish any opportunities to learn new skills. I would love to use workaway as a way of learning and passing on new practical skills and information, as well as sharing cultures and ideas. -

More details about your skills
My previous jobs include; working in a cafe serving food, working at the till and cleaning; working in a gift shop at the till and restocking/cleaning shelves; and working on a stall at art fairs and festivals selling my mum's artwork and merchandise. These experiences have greatly improved my skills when working in a team and interacting with a wide variety of people, as well as honing my ability to work well and efficiently under pressure. I have also volunteered at a local soup kitchen serving food to those in need.
Through my university I have helped to construct and design the set for a number of musicals and therefore have experience building scaffolding and truss as well as painting and building scenery. On a whole I am very artistic, being skilled with a paintbrush, pencil, camera, sewing machine, drill, etcetera!
I also have some experience gardening and growing fruit and vegetables on a small scale in my own garden, as well as looking after my neighbours chickens.
I am open and eager to learning new skills, especially DIY types skills such as building and carpentry, as well as anything to do with gardening and farming. -

What else ...
I don't particularly enjoy cooking but I am decent at it and would love to learn to love it more, I'd especially love to find new exciting recipes.
I have never really done much solo traveling so this would be a very new experience for me but I am very excited for it! And especially excited to learn new skills. -
