  • Description

Hii! I'm Soetkin, traveling has been a significant part of my life, and I feel most at peace when surrounded by nature and like-minded people. I believe that Workaway is a wonderful way to truly immerse myself in all the incredible experiences the world has to offer, while also giving back.

I like to seize the day and am up for anything! Whether it's a quiet day reading, writing meditating and listening to music, camping in the mountains while exploring hikingpaths, spending the day at the beach learning to surf or visiting local (flea)markets.

I embrace life with an open heart and an eagerness to evolve into who I'm growing to be. A positive, compassionate, worldly person who never stops learning about her surroundings and self.

I have had a deep love for animals for as long as I can remember and luckily they have always been a big presence in my life. I have three incredibly sweet dogs who are passionate travellers as well, Sienna, Sari and Indi :) Horses as well have a special place for me, learning from and with them is truly a blessing and I hope to continue this down this path. I'm very interested in natural horsemanship.

I’d love to learn more about permaculture, self-sufficiency, herbalism, cooking, personal/environmental wellbeing, living off-grid, getting more handy in building and anything you can teach me. I'm just all about embracing new experiences and learning along the way.

    Work experience
I've been around horses for over a decade; training, riding, training, and caring for them. My way of thinking revolves around fun teamwork with the horse, emphasizing a respectful, naturalistic approach to training with priority on building trust and understanding.

For the past four years, I've lent a hand in my parents' chalet on Airbnb, mainly cleaning, preparing the interior, taking care of the garden and welcoming guests. Since this year I'm officially a co-host so all responsibilities.

I’ve also helped my dad a bit with renovations, restoring a small house. I’m still learning, but I’m hands-on and eager to improve my skills!

While in high school, I worked as a waitress for a year, balancing school and shifts. I’ve also babysat kids (8+), preparing simple meals and keeping them entertained.

Currently, I work at Activate, a door-to-door outreach agency that inspires people to support nonprofit causes. We represent over 30 NGOs from around the world, and I’m mainly active on campaigns for Child Focus and Oxfam. It’s a job that’s taught me how to connect with people quickly, speak with heart, and advocate for important causes. I started as a rookie, moved into the promoter role and am now captain.

    Travel experience
My passion for travel started in childhood when I explored Europe with my family. We've spent countless months abroad, fostering a love for adventure in me.

Lately, I’ve been embracing a more independent style of travel. I’ve backpacked through Italy with an Interrail pass alongside my best friend, stayed in hostels, and volunteered through Workaway and Worldpackers. These experiences have deepened my appreciation for cultural exchange and spontaneous connections.

    Other volunteer experiences
Volunteering has played a huge role in my travels, offering me the chance to connect deeply with people, animals, and nature.

In Portugal, I volunteered on a farm with a British family, helping care for pigs, horses, dogs, chickens, and occasionally babysitting their young daughter. When they went on vacation, I house-sat the property and ensured all the animals were well looked after. I also supported a compassionate German woman caring for a large group of rescued animals: 18 dogs, 5 pigs, and 2 horses, offering daily help for about two weeks.

In France, I spent time on a horse farm with guest accommodations, where I helped with horse care, general property maintenance, and supported guest activities to ensure they had a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

In Tenerife, I volunteered at a horse sanctuary for retired animals. My tasks included feeding, grooming, cleaning, and offering extra care for the animals. I also provided assistance to an elderly lady living on the property.

My most recent experience was on a ranch in Croatia, where I took part in a wide range of responsibilities, leading guests on horseback tours through stunning natural landscapes, feeding, grooming, and training the horses, and helping out with all kinds of daily tasks around the ranch.

These experiences have shaped me into someone who’s adaptable, reliable, and deeply invested in the well-being of both people and animals.
