  • Description

Hi! My name is Paige. I’m recent Chemistry BS graduate. I joined Workaway to have an opportunity to travel, experience new cultures and practice other languages. I am looking to explore and meet new people before I find long term work and have less flexibility. I want to take the time to consider what I really enjoy doing and gain experience in novel areas. I would love any opportunity to experience other cultures and expand my perspective outside of what I have experienced in Missouri in the US :)
    For my skills:
I am experienced in painting. I have repainted many rooms, ceilings, and furniture. My family put me to work in painting the occasional rental and I have a steady hand for edging corners and trim. My mother had a cleaning business for a time and so I had the opportunity to help out on her larger projects. I have cleaned after moves and done smaller maintenance type cleaning for older relatives. I am young, so I do have limited experience but I am always open to tackle a new challenge.
I was a full time student until December of 2022, but I do have paid work experience. I have had several cashier jobs, which included cleaning of course. I’ve had intern work where I took inventory, compiled and analyzed data, and digitized documents. At my university, I had a lab prep position where I made solutions and prepared for the lower level labs. I am proud to say that I also reorganized a neglected Organic Chemistry lab into better working order during my time there.
My time in restaurants has given me the ability to work in fast paced situations. However, I do consider myself a detail oriented person. I enjoy putting a lot of love and consideration into a place or project so that it is functional and beautiful. My current work experience may not exactly fit the given task, but I’d love the chance to find the overlap!

My hobbies include artistic painting and reading. I think there is always room to grow, but I am adept at recreating most paintings and reference. I got a little out of practice between working and university, but I’m looking forward to nurturing a regular art habit again. If you have any interest in drawing, painting, candle making, sculpting, and most anything creative-I’m your gal! My idea of a good time is sitting together painting an outdoor scene or trying to make a macramé planter. I haven’t met a craft project I truly disliked (yet!). Whether it be scraping off old paint (the before and after image is of this from a previous Workaway) or origami, I have the blessing of being easily entertained. I welcome any task, including the tedious ones.

Cooking is a passion of mine. The overlap of food and chemistry makes it all the closer to my heart. I love making new meals and using what is available to create something beautiful. About two years ago, I became pescatarian to improve my diet and I believe it helped me be a better cook. I’m nearly vegetarian at this point, but I have experience preparing meat. I’m flexible and will eat whatever is provided, as well as cook with it.

It sometimes feels like I have more interests than time. Probably as a result, I was slow to graduate and took several classes outside of my main focus. So, I have introductory knowledge of the following areas from those additional courses: crime scene photography and investigation, an introductory lathe class, water quality, solid waste management, engineering design, and pneumatics and hydraulics. As I lack real world application of those areas, I would not place them as skills. But, I do have baseline textbook understanding and would love to work with any projects that include elements of them (hopefully not the crime ones though!)

If you have read this far, thank you for taking your time to get to know me. I’ve included a few practical details to follow. I am fully vaccinated against COVID, including my booster doses. My driving experience does not include much large city driving, as my hometown is not especially urban

I am happy to help with learning English. I am currently teaching myself American Sign Language, French, and Spanish. I am not quite good enough to teach those topics, but I would be thrilled to practice with you! I have a B1 certification in French, so I still need work but I can understand most of what is said.
