  • Description

Hi I’m Mike (Μιχάλης), a Greek-Cypriot musician and archaeologist living in London looking to share new experiences and learn life-long skills <3 !

I have been a volunteer on various farms around England, ranging from apple orchards, off-grid communes, and working factory farms. I did that for 8 months before moving to London to make an album.

In London I had great experiences and worked as a sound engineer for venues around Camden. I am now looking to get back to volunteering, travel further afield, see more of the world and make new friends!

Things I have done and want to continue developing:
    - [ ] Working with animals (goats, sheep, cattle, chickens, ducks, geese small animals like guinea pigs & ferrets)
    - [ ] Crop sowing, harvesting, fruit picking, sorting
    - [ ] Maintenance of property (strimming, mowing, etc.)
    - [ ] Firewood chopping & wood pile building
    - [ ] Archiving of archaeological/public records
    - [ ] Educational session runner, tour guide
    - [ ] Cooking for people :)

Things I would like to try:
    - [ ] Construction (especially using organic traditional materials like mud, stone, wood)
    - [ ] Woodworking (furniture & kitchen items)
    - [ ] Gardening
    - [ ] Land management (sustainable practices for power, water, outhouses & low impact living)
    - [ ] Preserves, pickling, fermentation

I am passionate about learning these skills as I one day plan to have my own homestead :)

As a songwriter and musician my day-to-day will consist of playing guitar a lot haha. Love to share music taste and write/jam together also!

Here’s some reviews from my time volunteering from WWOOF:

“Mike completed his WWOOF placement with us during the period November 2024 – April 2025.
During his time with us Mike was hands on with the day to day running of the farm which included husbandry of all the farm animals and the maintenance side of the farm too. Mike took to the routines well and within a few weeks of being with us, he was taking ownership of both the opening and closing procedures for both sides of the farm; the smaller animals and the larger stock animals.
Our Lambing and bottle-feeding season was intense and spanned from the middle of February up until the end of May. Mike become a crucial member of the bottle-feeding team and took ownership of this area. Mike was eager and enthusiastic to learn everything he could during the lambing season and was very hands on in all aspects of sheep work. Mike would often help feed the lambs during the night shift too. The bottle-feeding season can be quite monotonous however Mike delivered each session with enthusiasm, fun and jest. He really was great being hands on and had great rapport with our customers, especially sharing his new found knowledge.
During his time with us, Mike became a fond member of the farm team and was reliable and could work well on his own or part of the team. We truly thank him for all his hard work and wish him well in his next adventure.
    Yours sincerely
    Maria – Farm Manager’

‘Mike is an interesting person to have around any period property, with broad range of knowledge especially in his chosen subject archaeology.

He is helpful, active, and takes well to learning new skills.

During his time here we focussed on replenishing the wood store. We showed Mike how to safely use a small chainsaw on a log trestle and split logs with a maul, and he was able to work productively with minimal supervision.

Working together with Hannah they both did a magnificent job of wood stacking, creating a Hobbit village here at Bury Farm.

Mike cooks well and was able to bring a taste of Cyprus to the Chilterns.

We look forward to having him back in the future.’

‘I count myself lucky that Mike arrived about a week before a weekend social hosting event at the farm. He has been enormously helpful without regard to the day or hour.
Mike has contributed to a relaxed and positive social atmosphere at my smallholding at a time when I might have been stressed and anxious.
Mike cooked a dish for twenty people for the event.
I suppose other wwoof hosts would be glad of his help too.’

  • More details about your skills

As a trained archaeologist, with my experience working practical jobs (farms, solar park, fruit plantation) and of course my 6 WWOOF experiences I've had, I can say I've got a good level of practical ability.

I can use machinery, I've strimmed, hedge-cut, chainsawed, leaf blowed all a decent amount and to a good independent level. I can drive a quadbike, I got a driver's license. I have some knack with DIY, built a compost toilet once that had a great view of rolling fields. I'm well versed with tools. I've swung an axe quite a lot this year building a couple of big log piles. Of course, I can dig a decent hole as an archaeologist.

I've worked with animals at a few farms, including livestock and small animals. I know how to handle bigger and smaller creatures, including cows, pigs, sheep, goats, geese, ducks, chickens, small birds. I also have worked in a pet store and love dealing with furry friends such as cats, dogs, ferrets (personal favourite), rabbits, guinea pigs. I've had animals since I was a kid.

I'm good with technology, I've done a few projects using GIS (Cartography software), coding and web development. I'm happy to include this in my workaway experience if that's something that would benefit you.

I'm a fit person who enjoys moving a lot whilst working the old brain at the same time, I don't shy away from physical work.

I speak English & Greek fluently, happy to help people learn about the Greek language and Cypriot/Greek culture/cuisine.
