  • Description

    Olá :)
My name is Matilde, a joyful girl from Setúbal, a beautiful seaside town in Portugal.

My friends often describe me as grounded, open-hearted, and easygoing. I’m someone who shows up with a smile, ready to help, learn, and contribute however I can. I’m curious by nature and genuinely enjoy connecting with people from all walks of life. Whether it's joining a lively group conversation or spending time in quiet reflection, I always try to bring a sense of presence and enthusiasm to what I do.

Since a young age, I’ve felt a strong bond with Nature, and I feel most happy and at peace when I’m outside, whether is hiking, swimming in the ocean, chasing beautiful sunsets, or singing around a campfire. I’ve always been drawn to spontaneous adventures and meaningful conversations, and traveling has allowed me to explore that side of myself while expanding my understanding of the world.

In recent years, I’ve been seeking a more conscious and intentional way of traveling. That’s what led me to Workaway. I’ve had two amazing experiences so far in Italy, working on a wild camping project in Tuscany. I did a little bit of everything: gardening, farming, helping with eco-building, and just being part of a beautiful, slow-living rhythm. Since day onde, it felt right, purposeful and human.

I’m especially interested in learning more about regenerative agriculture, permaculture, and sustainable lifestyles. I believe in living in harmony with nature, and I’m inspired by projects that promote self-sufficiency, community, and conscious living.

Learning languages is another passion of mine, and one of my dream skills would be to become a polyglot.

I also enjoy spending time alone recharging through yoga, meditation, reading, or writing. These practices help me stay centered and aligned with what really matters to me.

Whether it’s helping out in the garden, preparing meals, building something with my hands, or simply sharing a moment of laughter, I would describe myself as hard-working, useful and present Workawayer. I'm here to continue learning, growing, and sharing, and hope to do that while meeting inspiring people and exploring new places.

  • More details about your skills

Over the years, I’ve gathered a mix of academic knowledge and hands-on experience that I’m always happy to share and build upon. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Law, with a specialization in Human Rights, Psychology, Education, and Social Economy — fields that deeply shaped the way I see the world and relate to others.

Professionally, I worked for two years with SOMA Surf, a Development NGO based in São Tomé and Príncipe. There, I was the Head of Legal and Institutional Relations, as well as the field manager. It was a life-changing experience that taught me how to work in dynamic, cross-cultural environments, navigate challenges with empathy and creativity, and stay committed to causes I believe in.

Right now, I’m involved in several community-led projects in my hometown. I volunteer with K-Evolution, where we promote sustainable development and environmental awareness in schools, and I’m also part of Regen Waves — a local initiative focused on regenerative landscape practices in Serra da Arrábida. These projects have been great opportunities to put values into action and stay connected to the land and the people around me.

In terms of languages, my native tongue is Portuguese, and I’m fluent in English. I also have a basic understanding of Spanish and would love to keep learning — especially Italian, French, and Arabic. I really enjoy language exchange and believe that sharing language is a beautiful way to connect and build bridges between cultures.

I’m a fast learner, open-hearted, and always ready to lend a hand — whether it’s through organizational support, educational activities, gardening, community-building, or just showing up with good energy and a can-do attitude. I believe every skill, no matter how small, can be valuable when shared with care and intention.
