  • Description

Hi, my name is Lottie and I am from South West England. I am on a gap year after my third year studying medicine at university. I am currently doing a work away in Peru and I am looking for a host starting around April where I can help our with horses and explore the nature in South America.

I had a gap year and was lucky enough to be able to travel - I spent time on workaways in Andalusia and Mallorca - both working with horses, taking care and training them as well. I worked as a guide for horse rides, as well as giving lessons and taking care of a farm with 28 horses - I was also left to take care of the finca by myself so I am an independent and responsible person. I have grown up around these beautiful animals and really miss connecting with them.

Last year I completed my 200 hr yoga teacher training, and have been teaching weekly classes since August 2023. I love to share the teachings as I know how important yoga has been for me - and I want to make sure everyone in my classes feels safe, relaxed and has a positive experience.
I am very easygoing, open minded and like to get involved with many different activities - I like to be challenged and put out of my comfort zone! I have spent 2 months on a work away in Denmark working in a surf hostel (cooking, cleaning, working on reception) and I really love this lifestyle. I also did this last summer in Portugal and loved being able to surf everyday (the dream!)
Due to the time I spent living in Spain I am now pretty much fluent, but I am really missing speaking the language so I would love to work somewhere where I can use it again! I also worked as an au pair for 5 months as well in Sevilla so I also have experience with children.
I would really love to find a workaway in a beautiful area where I can help out and have the opportunity to explore. I go hiking/climbing most weekends and find so much peace in nature, something I really value as I have to spend most of my time inside studying for the majority of the year - this is why I love workaway to spend time pursuing things I don't usually have as much time to do!

Summer 22 I spent in Denmark working at a surf hostel (could hold 40 people). I cleaned, flipped rooms, checked guests in and out, cooked for staff and sometimes guests as well and also helped to organise and work at some social events/parties that were held at the hostel. I love meeting new people and am efficient at tasks that need to be done. I'm good at working independently, organising my tasks and helped to run the hostel while the host was away for a few days.

I have lived in the countryside all my life, so have experience with a variety of animals, including dogs, cats, sheep, cows, but mainly horses. I have been riding for the majority of my life and previously had a workaway for two months where I helped to train young horses and brought horses back into work that hadn't been ridden for six months during lockdown. I enjoyed this a lot and now have experience riding many different types of horses, and also more technical dressage experience. I also have given lessons to people learning to ride, and wanting to improve their technique at various levels. I also worked with another host in Mallorca for 6 weeks on a large farm helping to take care of horses and also other tasks including gardening and cooking. I am willing to try any task you will need, and am able to cope with fairly physical work, as I like to keep fit and active in any way that I can, if you are willing to teach then I am willing to learn!

In Andalusia I worked at a riding holiday farm, and looked after one group of guests while I stayed there. It was a group of a variety of different ages, but I really enjoyed socialising and making them all feel at home, being attentive to any concerns or questions they had in order to make their experience as good as possible. I love the experience of being around new people, and ensuring they felt at home in their short stay.

I au paired for 5 months in Sevilla, taking care of two girls aged 10 and 12 where my main role was teaching English and helping with homework. I really enjoyed this way of involving myself in the culture through living with a Spanish family, and it has improved my Spanish hugely, I am currently working towards my C1 exam, which is the equivalent to fluency - so I would love to continue speaking and learning!

I have worked in a pub restaurant for three years as a waitress, where I learnt how to efficiently communciate and work calmly under pressure, managing stress in order to keep everything running smoothly, which is especially important when things get busy. I enjoy working within a team, and would turn my hand to anything that needs doing as I am hardworking and always like to be occupied with a task.

I also have volunteered with a children’s charity for 2 years in my hometown, so have experience in the area of childcare and doing activities with young people.

I also have some sailing experience, I spent two weeks on a boat doing my Gold D of E expedition, and also some time on a classic swan 54 yacht, I know the basics but I would like the oppurtunity to learn more as I loved being at sea!
