Description
Greetings! My name is Camille Butterfield (they/them) and I am an artist and a teacher. I love to make things with my hands, and I believe that art has the power to bring people together, teach about important topics, and spark impactful conversations. I am motivated by a desire to learn more about the world around me, build genuine connections with people, and hone my teaching skills. I have worked with students from toddler age through high school, and the experience of getting to know them while witnessing and contributing to their growth is deeply fulfilling to me. I also find joy and fulfillment in my own artistic practice, as art-making helps me navigate life's challenges, understand my experiences, and express myself. Some other things I like to do include being outside, running, biking, hiking, reading, writing, and singing. I am patient, persistent, and enthusiastic, and always curious about learning new skills and exploring new places!

I would love to learn about the native language(s) of the places I may visit, and I would be happy to help with teaching English! I am part Italian and have always been interested in learning this language. I also studied Mandarin for many years and sadly I have not used it in a while, but I would be interested in continuing to work on it if I find myself in the presence of someone willing to continue teaching me!

I have a degree in Studio Art, with an extensive background in drawing, painting, printmaking, and installation arts. I like to work with my hands and be in an environment where I am around other people and can contribute to something larger than myself. I have worked as a land steward for a state park, a production assistant for a design studio, and as an educator in two different schools. As a land steward, I learned about invasive species removal and transplanting native plants, and led activities and workshops for park visitors. As a production assistant, I helped with quality control and the creation of handmade products for a sustainable stationery studio. More recently, I was a Pre-K teacher at a Montessori school and a middle school and high school athletic coach at a public school, so I have experience with classroom management, lesson planning, and interacting with students of all ages. I have learned valuable lessons about the joys and challenges of working with each of these age groups, but most of all, I loved getting to know my students and athletes during our time together. I love playing games, leading activities, and giving my students agency in their learning, no matter how young they are. I am an empathetic teacher and a good listener, and I take my time to build connections and trust with the people around me.

In addition to making visual art, I love to make music! I know a little bit of guitar and piano, and I have experience singing with an a cappella group, so it would be fun to find a host that would like to make music and art with me! I also love to play games like charades where people can just be silly and laugh together. :)
