Hello everyone, Let me introduce you to our French Micro Team of Workaway new B’s
We are a mother & daughter duo of respectively 55 & 15 yo, over enthusiastic about the new bonds we’ll certainly tie in the coming year. We are planning to travel together from September to august 26 trough Central & North America combining workaway experiences, cultural discoveries & trekking.
My 15 yo girl will definitely be part of the game, helping me out partly with any type of chores required (easier to be 2 and definitely funnier !) . She is also of strong will . She will never be a burden as she is a quiet girl longing to learn new skills while living her dream of a long term travel surrounded by nature. She is fully autonomous and has anyway her own digital homework to do everyday. She has her own computer to do so along with an illimited 4G paquete ! She is a not the kind of discoteca girl !!!! Still my baby girl.
Our motivations in life are multiple :
Having fun whatever we do is our life motto. It does not necessarily mean that we ‘re looking for 100% fun activities. It does not mean either that we are nevrotic people thinking life is just about pleasure ! It just means that we have a constant positive & optimistic posture. For us, all experiences , including difficult ones, are / may turn to a source of pleasure and fun. As we say in French, as long as you’re alive, everything is possible and issues can be sorted out easily. Let me take a concrete example : For the past 5 years, we took care of my 93 yo mother, 100% dependent after a stroke . It has been a pleasure, an honor and an incredible chance for us to be on her side everyday until the end. However, to make things right and bearable for all , humor and fun were crucial. Shift from the ordinary , the ‘burden’ to the extraordinary is just a matter of perspective and changes everything. This mindset is just a life saver and defines who we are. By the way, humor is also a fantastic way to tie bonds easily. In that área, I am like a 15 yo girl and that is probably why my daughter and I get along so perfectly.
Then,
Having the possibility to meet new people from different cultural backgrounds . We live in Paris which is undoubtedly a beautiful city, but sometimes, we feel the urge to broaden our perspectives … As I work as a free lance in qualitative market Research, moderating focus groups on a daily basis, communication is just crucial to me . There’s nothing I like more than talking to people and having the chance to get to know a Little part of their lives and individual mottos. Chatting about anything, sharing life experiences and emotions is definitely a key element leading to my personal well being. Even better if its around cheese and wine. Of course. I can’t deny I am French
Obviously, travelling and discovering new countries : We just come back from a 6 week vacation in Ecuador where we had the incredible opportunity to switch from mountains to Jungle & Sea, constantly overwhelmed by the beauty of landscapes & Ecuadorians kindness. I’ve had the chance to travel on the long run twice in my life as a back packer and never forgot the amazing sense of freedom it drives. Leaving for a year is clearly different than a 3 week vacation. Instead of ’running’ from one place to another, you have the chance to sit back and immerse yourself in the local culture and develop incredible bonds. I am afraid I passed on the virus to my daughter. Now that she has just turned 15 yo and …. still love her mother, it’s time for her to live such a life changing experience.
Sharing life with our pets : We have a dog, a cat and a rabbit, all 3 coming from pet shelters. They are key to our emotional balance and are family members. It’s definitely a bit of a sacrifice to leave them, but we know they will be happy with my best friend. Having a chance to do a Work away in a pet shelter is one of our top 3 priorities.
We also enjoy cooking, walking through the city, hanging out with Friends, reading, watching TV shows all night ….. Manual activities such as knitting or sewing may sound a bit outdated but I find them super relaxing and a wonderful way to switch off from the obsessional work mode ! I love making Cosplay costumes, (Game of Thrones Outlander for instance) and sewing replicas of Victorian outfits. Don’t be afraid, we won’t take our costumes with us, it’s too heavy !
To conclude with, I would add a key feature of my motivation : Learning. I may be 55 yo, I feel that I still need to learn, learn and learn new things in multidimensional areas. That’s why I find Work away highly interesting as it moves you from your comfort zone giving you the chance to test multiple new activities. Gardening, why not ? DIY, wow a dream ! New languages, wonderful ! In a Word, all spheres interest me, I have no limits as I know hosts will surely guide us !

I use English for professional reasons and can teach to kids French is my native language, I'd be delighted to teach French to anyone interested I'd love to learn a bit of quichua /quechua/maya I am thrilled to live in a multi lingual environment

Right now, I have 6 key areas in which I am Good at, simply because it is / has been my daily occupation for the past years.
1. Marketing & Communication :
I am a free lance in Market Research & Marketing Strategy and run my own company. I have a master degree in Marketing
Although I work mostly for pharmaceutical companies, I have experience on many other areas such as hotels (Sofitel group), consumer goods, luxury,cars …... It will be a pleasure to run a market Research on a work Away session.
More concretely, it could be useful for hosts running hotels/guest accomodations/restaurants .... . .
In this specific area, I can provide the following features
Analysis of the competition (nearby hotels, and competition websites if available)
Identification of strengths & weaknesses, threats and opportunities
Set up surveys & quick interviews among hosts to know what’s working and what’s not + Observation phase
Focus group with the management & hotel team …..
Strategic recommendations
Operational list of expected improvements on all areas (website, program of activities , check in Process, cleaning, food offer, communication……)
For each key point a detailed analysis of the way to achieve expected results .
This kind of strategic research could be run in many other areas.
2. Pet sitting
We have 3 pets that all come from shelters : a dog, a rabbit and a cat. Animal wellbeing is a central preoccupation for us. We know how to take care of them and love to do so (food, hugs, walks, vet, basic medical care, education ,and of course, cleaning the mess they tend to make !
3.House Cleaning / House sitting
I personally take care of my home, doing all daily chores with joy. I took care for 5 years of a 150 sq.meter house when I was living at my mums house
Doing the same daily chores for hosts will be a pleasure. Please note that I m not super efficient when it comes to ironing !
4.Baby / Kid sitting
As a solo parent, I now how to take care of Little ones ! I also need to do some rehearsal before being a grand mother (I have time, my daughter is only 15 !)
High enthusiasm when it comes to set up multiple activities (drawing, sewing, theater / games, going out ….) and parties with kids. Big time
5.Elderly care
I took 100% care of my 88 yo mother for 5 years ….until the end. She had a stroke and a femoral neck fractures and was 100% dependent. Hard times for sure but definitely the most rewarding human adventure of my life.
Chores : Bathing, cleaning, feeding, mental activities , kine, GP’s and specialist appointment, ergotherapy …. Just all aspects of an elderly daily life including house cleaning, and administrative follow up
I can easily take care of your elderly ones, treating them as if they were family to me. It will remind me of my loved mother !
6. Teaching
Before starting my marketing career, I used to be a private teacher during my 9 years of studies post graduation : Backing up kids all year round, helping out with their homework and providing methodology guidance. I have also a master in History & Sociology, besides a diploma of a prestigious French University (Sciences Po), so I feel at tease with everything that deals with learning how to work & how to be efficient ! During our one year break, I will take care of my 15 yo girl’s homework .
As a consequence, I can teach French (native language), English (with a charming French accent), History , litterature …… + follow up of any child homework until 16 yo
To finish with, you have to know that I am a hard worker : For the past 5 years, I cumulated all together multiple Missions at the same time : Freelance with a huge load of work + single mother + in charge of an dependent elderly person in her big house with no external help. Sense of organization was just crucial. I am never afraid to cope with long work sessions. I have strong will and ready to face any kind of challenge. Long term commitment, constant search for clients satisfaction & operational problem solving solutions, autonomy, are in my DNA .

Don't be afraid to welcome a mother & child 'couple' : Iris and I are an united team likely to coordinate our assets & rectify our weaknesses to become one powerful entity ! Sense of autonomy is key for us.
Don' t hesitate to open your door to a 55 yo guest : Mature people can also be full of energy and show incredible good will ! I've never been so eager to learn new skills now that I've just turned 55 !
