I am driven by a fascination for history and culture. My degree at university is European politics, and I specialise in the history of the former Habsburg empire and so-called 'Mitteleuropa'. I am constantly language-learning (I speak Ausländer German, and always learn the absolute basics of the language of the countries I travel to). I'm hoping to get to genuinely understand new places to widen my perspective on the world :)

More details about my language interests
As someone who has learned German to B1 standard (i.e. - can hold a conversation if the other participant speaks slower and clearly), language learning itself is fascinating to me. I find music/TV shows are incredibly helpful. I've recently been trying to learn some of the Hungarian language - it's magnificently difficult, as every basic presumption about how one forms a sentence is taken away (e.g - prepositions are included within the noun, there are no possessive pronouns, etc).

I am a permanent tour guide at the Shard, which is a skyscraper in London. My job is to talk to tourists about the city itself, and know about what will interest and engage people (and present this information in a way which does so).

I am from the countryside, and spent time working on a farm in Cambridgeshire. I have great stories from this period (it was backbreaking work, 60-70 hours per week picking vegetables).

I suppose, if I'm simplifying, I'm physically fit and friendly :)
