  • Description

    Hi everyone!
I'm Eugenia (but please call me Ginny) from Bologna, Italy.

I discovered the Workaway platform when I was a newly graduate in foreign languages at 23 and it literally changed my perspective on life and myself. I lived and worked in a small hostel in the south of the Netherlands, where I got to meet the coolest people and share experiences, challenges, laughs, opinions and a lot of hugs. At the hostel, my tasks were mainly breakfast and bar shifts, along with reception, housekeeping and a bit of maintenance and gardening.

Since 2018 much life's happened and I got to live at the opposite end of the Netherlands (for my Master's degree in writing and editing), in Rome, Florence, and Bologna. I have worked as a proofreader in a small publishing house, in supermarkets, in a language school, as an interior designer, as a senior receptionist (and occasionally bartender, cleaner, handygirl and moral support for every colleague) in a hostel, as a secretary for the Tunisian consulate, and as a travel planner.
I also volunteered in all the cities I have lived in, mainly for people with disabilities, elderly people and migrants. In the last few years, I have engaged in right-to-housing, social and LGBTQ+ activism. For me it is fundamental to have a positive impact in a world that often leaves us struggling, alone and disunited.

I'm fluent in English and French, I speak a bit of Dutch and I'm currently taking a crash course to improve my Spanish. I am a freak for languages, literature and cultures. I like to move my body and nourish my mind and spirit with yoga, long walks, music, books and poetry, which I also write myself. I love being around other beings - adults, kids, and animals too. I also really like singing and dancing, as a way to fuel my good energy.

When I travel, I am most of the time a backpacker and I mainly stay in hostels or locals' houses as a couchsurfer. Meaningful interactions with other people are, in my opinion, one of the key points of visiting other countries.
In 2024, I bought an old 1980s camper van and named him Toto. He became my full-time home on wheels and that was the start of a long trip, which led me all around Europe:
    - I helped turn an old farmhouse into a social hub in Germany (carpentry works, painting walls, moving furniture, gardening, cleaning and babysitting).
    - I worked with hot air balloons in the Netherlands (preparing the equipment, welcoming passengers, building and disassembling the balloon before and after the flight, helping the pilot with the takeoff and the landing, following the balloon along the road with a minivan and bringing the passengers back at the end).
    - I helped at a folk festival in Alsace (France) with bartending and cafeteria, cleaning and driving the minivan to bring the guests to the festival, as well as singing, jamming and dancing :)
    - I travelled around Switzerland, Belgium and Spain.

I’m a very adaptable, collaborative and reliable person, always willing to lend a hand when there's a problem, as I strongly believe in team work and mutual help.
I can't wait to learn new skills and to challenge myself with something I’ve never done before. I'm a quick learner and I'm not scared to ask questions!
When I'm in a new place, I enjoy trying local foods and drinks, roaming through vintage markets, getting tattoos as everlasting memories, camping and wandering in nature, but what I love the most is sharing life stories and getting to know other open minded people with whom I can establish long-lasting friendships. I am also very respectful of people's boundaries and specific needs. Transparent and sincere communication, kindness and empathy are extremely important to me. Everywhere I go, in job places as well as outside work, I always do my best to keep a joyful environment, and make people feel welcomed and listened to.

Last but not least, I can say that change has been the only constant in my life, and when I stay too long in one place my feet start to get itchy again.
Now it’s the perfect time for me to set out on new adventures!
