  • Description

Hello, we are Irini & Marinos, a couple from Greece. We love travelling, hiking, nature and volunteering. We each have our special interests around nature (Marinos loves mountain biking and Irini adores moss and tree hugging). We love animals, creating things with our hands and cooking.
We are firm believers that community is an integral part of anything that adds value to our lives.
We are trying to live as sustainable as possible in an urban environment, but we miss being more immersed and connected with nature.
We are very respectful and we like to keep our spaces clean and tidy.
We like socialising and learning new things from people, as everyone has something new we can discover.

Marinos: I'm a very hands on person and I like a good problem to solve, whether that is how you can take a boiler up to a roof or how to optimise the space of a sheet pan to fit the cookies better.
I'm a production engineer but I generally have worked from designing production lines to renovating houses.
I'm also a self defense teacher and have taught women's groups since 2018.
As mentioned above, I love all things bicycle and motorcycle, and I enjoy riding them or fixing them.

Irini: I love creating things with my hands and the more I learn the better. I like hoarding skills because you never know when you'll have the chance to built a hobbit hole in the middle of the forest. (Other kids dream of becoming astronauts, I dreamt of learning how to tile a kitchen.)
I'm an urban planner and environmental engineer, hoping to leave a greener planet behind.
I have taken up dancing, climbing and now stained glass (with Marinos) and love photography.
I also like languages a lot, although admittedly my french and italian some times become a cross-over episode.
I have done an 8 month Erasmus programme in Italy, where I volunteered in an environmental organisation, with 3 other international volunteers, working mainly at litter cleanings in various locations, we also worked in 2 environmental parks (one was a protected area) doing manual labour (weeding, clearing paths, picking up litter from the beach, informing tourists). I definitely became a lot more adaptable and flexible through that experience, which comes in very handy in life.

More details about my language interests
I (Irini) love languages because it's like a big game of finding similarities and differences between a lot of them. It also helps with understanding each culture more deeply, so my curiosity can be satisfied. I (Marinos) may not speak many languages but it's always interesting to discover new ways of communicating.

  • More details about your skills

Marinos: I am a production engineer with strong understanding of physics and how things work.
I have fixed: bicycles (multiple. really. one I even turned in electric), motorcycles, cars, partially tvs, radios (if you need someone to turn your car radio into a computer sound system, you know where to find me), computers (hardware mainly), furniture and small electric devices. I also have some carpentry skills, since I enjoyed making wooden things in my father's workshop as a kid, and I also worked for a friend in Poland to build some wood frames for the drywall as well as some benches.
I know how to use power tools.
I also have teaching experience as a self defense instructor and geometry teacher at a community centre.
I have some plumbing experience setting up heat pumps and solar water heaters.
I also have experience using a brush cutter and chainsaw.
Last but not least, I make great cookies.

Irini: I paint (walls, portraits are not my strong suit) and I have an attention to detail especially on the tight spots.
I'm currently working on getting better at my soldering work on stained glass.
I am good at taking care of pets, even if that means tricking them into taking their pills.
My strongest trait is that I pick things up quickly and I love the learning process.
I am a very good cleaner and organised.
I have a bit of experience with clearing forest paths, weeding out invasive species from flower beds and cleaning litter from river banks, beaches and lakes.
I speak a few languages, but English is definitely the one I'm best at (after greek obviously). I also speak italian (I'm your girl if you need someone to order you gelato), and a little french.
And if nothing else sounds enticing, 8 months in Italy taught me how to make a mean focaccia. (Marinos confirms this).
