Hi there! 👋 My name is David, I'm a 29-year-old merchant marine officer from the Canary Islands (Spain), currently traveling through beautiful Aotearoa and excited to connect with amazing hosts through Workaway!
With a background as a licensed maritime pilot and professional experience in humanitarian rescue missions with NGOs, I bring strong values of teamwork, responsibility, and dedication. I'm used to working in dynamic, sometimes high-pressure environments, and I’m always ready to roll up my sleeves and get things done with a smile.
I’m especially interested in helping out on farms, taking care of animals, spending time with elderly people, and supporting families with childcare. I love learning new skills and embracing the lifestyle and culture of each place I visit. I consider myself a proactive, respectful, and reliable person—someone who enjoys both physical work and meaningful conversations.
Whether it's feeding animals, fixing fences, sharing stories over dinner, or helping with household tasks, I’m here to help with energy and enthusiasm!
Looking forward to hearing from you and sharing good times and hard work together. Let’s make it a great exchange! 🌿
Warm regards,

More details about your skills
I bring a diverse skill set built from both my maritime career and humanitarian work. As a marine officer and pilot, I have strong experience in navigation, teamwork under pressure, and taking responsibility in challenging situations. My time working with rescue NGOs has also given me a deep sense of empathy, adaptability, and resilience.
Outside of my professional background, I’m a quick learner and enjoy practical, hands-on tasks. I have took part in some eco projects like permaculture ones and done some basic gardening on my piece of land. I’m comfortable with physical work, and I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty—whether it's feeding animals, bee-keeping, gardening, doing repairs, or helping with daily routines. I’ve also helped care for children and elderly people, and I always approach these roles with patience, respect, and good energy. Also I trully enjoy spending time ith children, I worked as Free Time Instructor in summer camps and I can provide recommendation letter under request.
I’m happy to take initiative but also know how to follow instructions carefully. I speak fluently English and Spanish, and knowledge of Portuguese and Italian. I’m organized, communicative, and always ready to learn something new. I believe in giving my best and creating a positive, honest exchange wherever I go.Age

I enjoyed a lot my stay in Greg's land, he was a super kind host, provinding all necessary and helping me during work when he was free. Personally-wise he treated me very well and gave me freedom about my working time schedule, I could work a bit more one day to be free on others for travelling.

He stayed with us for just over a week and brought a strong work ethic along with a great ability to work independently. Even though our projects involved the rather taxing task of improving some of the drainage on our property, he tackled it without hesitation and did a fantastic job.
