Description
I love to steep myself in any culture I am immersed in, respectfully observing and absorbing other's ways. Always with a goal of supporting people as they navigate daily life while finding common ground and opportunities for the many ways one can connect . Play-filled times with others during rest times, experiencing they ways others play and have fun in another's country is a favorite part of my travels!
I have a degree in Human Ecology and AMI Montessori certification (prenatal through 3 yrs old) as well. I have also taught preschool in a cooperative log cabin school. I cared for my elderly parents in my home during their last years with our family, started a non profit, oversaw the building of my tiny house and have started, run and sold a few, local, small businesses.
Lately I have been a postpartum doula, for almost 20 years. My doula work began when my children were in their teens and early 20s. We lived in Hawaii as well as in the lovely shade of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains, where I still live. Now I train and mentor doulas as I wind down my career and travel more, working a few hours each week digitally as a doula trainer.
I've traveled many a time and lived abroad at various times in my life, since my teen years. I speak Spanish as a result of living in Spain. I enjoy gardening native non invasives, creating supportive environments for people young and old, Yoga, vegan cooking and baking and have maintained a steady meditation practice over the past 4 decades.
I would like to help workaway hosts with gardening, tidying up and sorting out/ organizing work around a home or small business. supporting in the kitchen during meal prep and clean up, and sprinkling in companion care for children and /or elders. I can help those wishing to learn English or basic Spanish, help in a small business and am always open to and curious to explore others ways not mentioned that a host may need help. Just ask me here!
I am patient, tolerant and easy to get along with I am told! I am an upbeat, creative thinker, clear with my intentions, a good communicator and compassionate listener. I like working cooperatively, alongside others yet have often led others. I have always been an initiator of ideas, having worked for myself my whole life, in businesses or nonprofits which I have created.

More details about your skills
I have house sat for people since I was in college. I garden, help people with projects and also basic housekeeping so a home feels cozy and peaceful. I have a lot of experience around stepping into homes and helping people get out of overwhelm and find peace and order in their home life. I am especially familiar with helping families with their children, beginning with newborns.
Now that I am semiretired I am enjoying even more and hope to assist workaway hosts with: gardening, helping hosts with small household chores (laundry, dishes, tidying up, getting out of overwhelm and organizing, both inside and outside their homes and cooking (vegetarian).
I have helped start businesses and nonprofits, small family cooperatives and organized people around that. Done retail work in varying capacities, harvested berries for farmers. See my website for work I did during my career life as well: https://babiesbytheblueridgedoulasandmore.weebly.com/

What else ...
I love to learn about others cultures and customs as I am a curious soul!
I do play board games, such as Rummikube! I love to bike, hike, camp, walk beaches, swim, paint watercolors, sew (very free hand and simple when it comes to sewing though!). I love supporting families with their transition to different phases of parenthood.
I also love to provide companion care to all ages. I like to finding the rhythm of those I am supporting or living with and honor it.
I enjoy having my own space while staying with others, for respite during a day and for meditation in the early morning hours. I am diligent in everything I do, and strive to be always present in all ways, while giving the task at hand my best.
I am always happy to house and pet sit too and have plenty of experience doing so!
