Description
We met back in 2020 on a volunteering trip in Germany and have been living together in Edinburgh for over 5 years. We both work in the sustainability sector but we are taking some time off work to travel, explore, and volunteer. We bonded over a love of volunteering and giving something back, so we can't wait to try out some new Workaway experiences together!
Here is some info about each of us:
Chris - I grew up in Scotland, and have done a lot of travelling in this wonderful country I call home. Despite it's small size, it has a lot to offer and exploring new parts of it is one of my favourite activities. I also love photography and using this to share my experiences with others.
I've also worked and volunteered in the environmental sustainability sector for 10 years, allowing me to conserve the wonderful natural places that I love exploring. Currently I work for a charity that focuses on improving urban greenspaces and creating opportunities to allow more people to access nature. I have done two Workaway experiences before and loved both of them so I'm really excited to get some new experiences!
Moya - I grew up in rural Wales before moving to Scotland in 2018 for university. I fell in love with Scotland and it is now my permanent home. I love to travel and I have done a lot of travelling both within the UK and abroad. When travelling, I love to learn more about the local culture, history and environment of the place I'm visiting. I have volunteered in the environmental sector both in Scotland and abroad, including month-long ERASMUS volunteer trips in Cyprus, Germany (where I met Chris) and Romania. These trips were amazing opportunities to learn more about environmental conservation and further fuelled my love for travel and the natural world.
I currently work in the sustainability sector, helping to deliver projects that provide free energy advice to people and projects that are building community renewable energy resources for the benefit of the local community. I have not yet done any Workaway experiences and I am really looking forward to starting this journey alongside Chris! -

More details about your skills
Chris:
My time spent volunteering and working in the environmental conservation sector, as well as my personal experiences, has given me a wide range of skills and experiences. At my previous Workaway trips I helped with general maintenance, cooking, cleaning, small DIY projects, creating vegetable gardens, dog sitting, and a range of other things.
I have also done a lot of habitat management, involving pruning trees, removing invasive non-native species, constructing new habitats, using various tools to cut back vegetation, creating ponds and conducting surveys to decide the best way to manage a habitat.
I have also been involved with a variety of basic construction tasks, including fence removals/construction, dry stone wall building/ repairs, pallet furniture construction, building footpaths and a variety of garden management activities.
I am also a keen photographer, and I would love to be able to bring these skills into a Workaway trip to help the host promote their project. On a previous volunteering trip with Erasmus I used my camera to document the whole trip and write a blog to give back to the organisers.
My jobs have involved a lot of working with volunteers and community groups, so I have a lot of experience of working with people and I find it very rewarding.
Moya:
Through my volunteer experiences, as well as my personal hobbies, I have developed a wide range of skills and experiences.
I have experience with habitat management and basic landscaping both at home and abroad. I have done housesitting, which has included dog and cat sitting, for up to two weeks at a time. I am very comfortable with all animals and I grew up with cats, chickens, geese and large dogs.
Before moving to Scotland, I worked in Spain for 6 months as an au-pair and speak conversational level Spanish. My Spanish is a bit rusty but I can pick it up again quickly! As an au-pair, I took care of children ranging from the ages of 5-9.
I am also a good cook and enjoy planning and cooking meals. -

What else ...
Chris:
As well as photography, I enjoy hiking, running, cycling, and baking. Running is my main hobby and I love using it as a way to explore and spend time with friends. I love a wide range of music and also play drums and guitar, so I'm always keen for a jam if there are some instruments around!
Moya:
I enjoy cooking, hiking, and swimming as well as all craft activities, particularly knitting and sewing! I am a big animal lover and grew up with dogs, cats, chickens and geese. I also enjoy running, although it is a relatively new hobby. I have also recently got into foraging and really enjoy going on foraging walks! -
