Description

Hi! I am an enthusiastic traveler with an educational background in chemistry. I have just graduated university (December 2024), and I am taking a gap year before returning to graduate school. Travel is one of my main passions in life. I adore meeting new people. It is the highlight of my journeys so far. I don't want to just visit somewhere, I want an opportunity to gain an understanding of what life looks for the members of these communities.

More details about my language interests
As an American, I was not taught to speak any other languages fluently. One of my primary life goals is to be a bilingual individual. Language is a beautiful thing. I don't want to miss out on jokes that "don't translate." New words provide a new way of viewing life. I am particularly interested in Greek.

I have experience in various backgrounds. I have worked mainly in childcare, but have also worked in restaurants, research laboratories, and sales. It is very important for me to feel useful, and I fulfilled this duty in each of my previous positions.

In childcare, I have worked primarily as a skateboarding coach. I have also worked at summer camps and daycare centers. As a skateboarding coach, I have worked with large groups of kids as well as one-on-one. I LOVE working with kids. They way they view the world provides hope, and keeps me in a state of childlike wonder. I have so much fun getting to tap into my inner child.

My time in restaurants taught me the importance of organization and time management. I often had to take care of 30 + customers at a time. I came to understand how to keep customers satisfied. I was a hard worker who took pride in my job as a server.

For the past year, I have worked in research. I have been doing analytical atmospheric chemistry. This has taught me many important skills, but the most important of these has been perseverance. Research scarcely works smoothly, so I had to find adaptability within myself.

Each of these positions helped me have a well-rounded skill set.

What else ...

As far as hobbies go, I have a few. I skateboard and have been doing so since I was 14. It is one of my favorite parts of traveling. Skateboarding is a great way to meet people, and I have friends in every city I have ever visited from skating. I also paint, typically landscapes of places I have lived. I love reading, mainly short fictional novels written by philosophers. I also read some science non-fiction. I play basketball a couple times a week. I really just love finding ways to move my body and stay active.
